Radio Control Model Yacht Club

Mid Atlantic Model Yacht Club

The Mid Atlantic Model Yacht Club is a group of sailing enthusiasts who get together once a month to race radio-controlled model sailboats.  Our club is a member of the American Model Yachting Association, AMYA  , which is the National governing body of model yachting.  Our members come from the surrounding areas in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

We have skilled model builders in the club who will help new members get started and resolve construction problems along the way.  We also have accomplished racers who are willing to share their knowledge to help a colleague improve his boats performance.  The competitive spirit is always present at our races but the real emphasis in our club is to have fun and to promote the hobby of model boat sailing in the Mid-Atlantic region.  We welcome new members.

What We Sail

We race the East Coast 12 Meter (EC12) boat at the Mid Atlantic Model Yacht Club.  The EC12 is a one-design boat where all dimensions are strictly controlled.  The hull is 58 inches long with a sail area of 1200 square inches.  The AMYA  website and the EC12  website have lots of information about this model yacht.

Welcome To Our Class

The Remote Control (R/C) Laser Model is a scale version of the famous "one design" Laser, the most popular "real boat" sailing class in the world.

The R/C Laser, however, does not require a trailer, life jackets, or hours of set-up time before you can be on the water and sailing. The R/C Laser was designed to be up and sailing out of the box in under 7 minutes. All you need is 2 feet of water, a desire to sail, and some wind. Just snap in the keel, mast, and rudder assemblies...slip in the batteries...clip on the sails and you are ready to go. It is that simple.

Send your club news and events information to RC Laser Class Secretary, Nick Mortgu at [email protected] .

2024 lake naomi summer regatta, fourth annual bow lake strafford, nh rc laser regatta and region 1 championship, 2024 so jersey myc regatta, 2024 harvest regatta, 2024 cooper river yc rc laser regatta, latest posts, 2024 dead crab regatta, 2024 bunny bowl, 2024 st. patrick's day regatta, 2024 rc laser national championship results.

"Regattas aren’t necessarily won with firsts. Work to improve in increments if you are behind, and it will make you a more successful skipper." - David Ramos

One Design Model Sailboat DF-95

Madison’s smallest but fastest growing racing fleet introduced a new one-design class of radio controlled sailboat, the DragonFlite 95 .  Sails great, inexpensive, quick to assemble, easy to transport.

Although the boats are small, they still follow the same racing rules, tactics, and physics of peopled sailboats.  The more boats on the line, the better we showcase this unique category of sailboat racing.  Best return of fun on time and money in sailboat racing.

RC Sailboat Buyer’s Guide

Whether you’re after some peaceful weekend sailing at your local pond, or you plan on blowing the competition out of the water at RC races, a great RC sailboat is a must have.

We know there’s lots of options out there – but don’t worry, we’re here to help you find the best RC sailboat for you!

There’s a range on the market, from the fast and furious like Volantexrc RC Sailboat to models just perfect for a Sunday morning cruise. Here’s what to look out for.

While RC sailboats are speedy, they certainly aren’t the fastest boats on the water, and many hobbyists who want a zoom around the lake opt for a catamaran or race boat. That’s not to say sailboats aren’t speedy – with those designed for racing reaching up to 30mph. However, most sailboats are perfect for a tranquil day on the water, just like their full scale counterparts!

If you’ve got a need for speed, get a sailboat like DragonForce 65 RC Sailboat which is specifically designed for competitions with a lightweight design.

RC sailboats will come with a steering servo, most likely already installed. The rudder is used for steering which can make them slightly less smooth to steer than other RC models, but they should still be very easy to control.

Design and Detail

A DIY RC sailboat allows you to be a little more creative when it comes to the detail, and many hobbyists choose to put their own stamp on their boat with unique colors and patterns. Small but intricate details will give your sailboat a more realistic look and help it stand out from the rest at competitions.

A long, sleek design will allow the boat to go faster across the water, while bigger and heavier models are perfect for slower speeds. If you’re serious about RC sailboats, most can be upgraded with new parts to get them race-ready.

Sailing the high seas with your RC sailboat is a great way to spend an afternoon, or an entire day, and our top 3 RC sailboats will guarantee you hours of fun. For the easy to follow instructions, smooth and sleek design, and the high quality parts, the DragonFlite 95 RC Sailboat claims the top spot for best RC sailboat.
