The 203-foot (62m) luxury superyacht RoMa is beyond impressive. From her comfortable on-deck living areas to her contemporary interior spaces that were inspired by the ocean, RoMA provides the perfect platform for an exceptional charter experience from the moment you embark.

Launched in 2010 by Viareggio Superyachts, RoMA features impeccable design courtesy of famed Norwegian architect Espen Oeino. The yacht’s lavish, modern interior style was created by Katharina Raczek from Newcruise. She conceptualized a pristine color palate of crisp whites enhanced by golds and deep reds with hints of green. The interior décor pays homage to the sea with nuanced touches such as the main salon’s sand-like carpet and the Nautilus sea shell-like laser-cut paneling on the main staircase.

The spacious main salon is ideally suited for relaxing and socializing. The space features seating, a backlit onyx bar and coffee tables. Forward is formal dining for 12 at a beautiful circular table. The main deck also is home to the master stateroom located furthest forward. This elegant space features a king-size bed as well as a pullout sofa. Panoramic windows provide incredible views and natural light. The en-suite bathroom has his-and-hers sinks and a bathtub and a dressing room rounds out the lavish suite. Three additional en-suite staterooms also are found on the main deck. A fifth stateroom is located on the upper deck and the sixth is found below deck for added privacy. Twelve guests are comfortably accommodated on board.

RoMa’s on-board movie theater is a favorite space for guests after a day on the water. The full-beam skylounge features seating and a game table and beautiful nautical-inspired décor. Aft of the skylounge is a large alfresco dining table and built-in lounge seating. This is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor meals.

The sundeck aboard RoMa is a favorite place for guests to spend sun-soaked days. From the loungers and adjustable sunpads to the large pool and bar, what’s not to enjoy? This space also has an air-conditioned gym that offers impressive views as you work out.

RoMa comes with an outstanding inventory of water toys. Easily launched from her beautiful beach club, play with paddleboards, water skis, Jet Skis, Seabobs and snorkeling gear. The crew can set up the enormous waterslide for fast fun. A water golf game will keep everyone on their toys and the Castoldi Jet tender can take guests anywhere they want to go. RoMa is a PADI Superyacht Dive Boat and her onboard scuba instructors ensure total safety for all guests. She also is a RYA Personal Water Craft (PWC) School ensuring that all guests are able to use the Jet Skis and other toys. The yacht’s licensed masseuse/beautician provides a variety of spa treatments for guests. RoMa’s captain is well versed in yoga and meditation and is always willing to share his expertise on these and any other fields.

An air conditioned superbly equipped gym with an expansive view is just one of the amenities to enjoy on this prestigious super-yacht.

A full beam sky lounge is nestled in the same familiar soft cream tones as the salon and guest staterooms; strategically placed immense chairs and settee, a game table and desk round out this spectacular room. 

An ample rectangular aft deck dining table provided for alfresco dining at its best. It can be extended to comfortably sit up to 16 guests.

The oversized main salon comprises versatile seating areas that are especially designed with entertaining or relaxing in mind. An outstanding feature on this deck are the backlit onyx bar, dining and coffee tables. The dining area is just forward of the salon and showcases the circular dining table that will comfortably seat 12 guests.

Forward on the desirable main deck, the floor-plan rises above a staircase leading to the voluminous master suite. The Master suite, being on the same deck although on a higher location warrants real intimacy for its occupants. It exudes an understated elegance and features a king size bed. Its panoramic windows allow natural light to pour into the suite filling every corner of it. The master suite’s regal bathroom is fitted with a bathtub, shower, his & hers hand wash basins and wc. An enviable dressing room complements this fabulous master suite.

One of RoMa’s most impressive features, very popular with the younger guests, is an on-board cinema, the walls of which are adorned with minuscule fiber optic lights imitating the fascinating bioluminescence of the sea.

In terms of entertainment, RoMa is unsurpassed in luxury amenities and water-toys for an unforgettable charter experience. Her fantastic outdoor spaces are equally impressive, featuring a private beach-club and an unbeatable array of toys including a brand new water-slide which towers above the sea-level all the way up to the sun deck. Even the faint-hearted find themselves lured to it! Then come the paddle boards, water skies, jet skis, the enormous anti-jelly-fish pool which also serves to sunbathe, the seabobs, snorkel gear for guests of all ages, the inflatable water toys, a Castoldi Jet tender, water-golf game with balls that turn into fish food when they enter in touch with the sea water, etc.

Panoramic views, a working desk, and a private dressing area compliment this full beam stateroom. Decorated with neutral shades, subtle lighting is used to create a light and airy ambiance. It features a spacious en-suite with a steam/shower room built in beautiful Estremos marble ensuring the ultimate luxury charter experience. King bed: 2m wide Guest Suites: Three Main Deck Guest Staterooms feature en-suite bathrooms as well as a writing desk and separate seating areas. A General Description of Motor Yacht ROMA

This sizeable luxury yacht ROMA is a motor yacht. This 62 metre (203 foot) luxury yacht was crafted by Vsy - Viareggio Superyachts in 2009. She could be described as a recent full displacement yacht. ROMA is ex (Project Duchess Of Tuscany). Superyacht ROMA is a stylish yacht that can accommodate up to 12 passengers on board and has a total of 16 professional crew. This large motor yacht has a helicopter landing facility. Finished and launched in 2009 the recent internal styling exhibits the congruous progression in the designing of Newcruise.

The new environmental regulation “Green Plus” by the classification society RINA was granted to 62 meter Roma as well as 2 other superyachts called Candscape II (63m) and Emerald Green. (41m). The vessels awarded this certificate have to make a significant investment in design solutions, on board equipment and operational procedures helping to reduce the impact of the yacht on the environment increasing their efficiency and performance. This will play an important role in bringing a reduction in the carbon emissions from the yachts’ exhaust.

The yacht's wider design collaboration came from Espen Oeino. The technical naval architect drawings are the products of Espen Oeino. Motor Yacht ROMA received her stylish interior designing from the interior design office of Newcruise. In 2009 she was actually launched with accolade in Viareggio and post sea trials and finishing touches was thereafter handed over to the owner. Vsy - Viareggio Superyachts completed their new build motor yacht in Italy. Her main hull was crafted from steel. The motor yacht main superstructure is made for the most part from aluminium. Chartering RoMa superyacht is the secret to embrace the seas and forge everlasting memories of a fantastically unique yachting experience!

Designed by the renowned Norwegian architect Espen Oeino, stunning RoMa was launched by Viareggio Superyachts in 2010. Throughout her luxurious living spaces, a colour palette of crisp whites contrasted against warm splashes of deep reds, delicate gold’s and hints of green create a feeling of contemporary elegance designed by Katharina Raczek from Newcruise who decided to include subtle references to the sea embracing RoMa yacht. That is why the carpet in the main salon simulates the sand on the sea-bottom, why the white Art Deco 3D laser cut paneling on the main staircase simulates the Nautilus sea shells, why the side panels in the upper salon simulate reef coral or why the carpeting in the aisles of the main salon seems to hide tiny sea shells. The sea is essential to the Owners so they decorated RoMa to serve as an almost invisible tribute to it.

RoMa is one of the few super-yachts fitted with a dynamic positioning system (DPS). This allows her to stop engines end stay put without having to use the anchor. This feature comes incredibly handy now that more and more areas are banning the use of anchors to protect the sea bottom. Another peculiarity of the DPS is that it allows the captain to position the yacht as per the guests’ wishes regardless of where the sun is. If they want more sunshine, RoMa will turn as needed; if they want more shade in the exterior dining areas which aren’t covered by the biminis and sunbrellas, RoMa will turn on her axis to the ideal position. Needless to say that her zero-speed stabilizers under-way and at anchor play and important factor in this and at the same time warrant that the yacht roles as little as absolutely possible.

Sun Deck: For the outdoor lovers RoMa yacht offers a spacious sun deck complete with numerous chaise-longues, vast adjustable sun pads, and a generous pool with jets capable of creating a strong current for the ultimate workout. An al-fresco bar is situated just aft of the pool. An air conditioned superbly equipped gym with an expansive view is just one of the amenities to enjoy on this prestigious super-yacht.

Upper Deck: A full beam sky lounge with coral accented pillows, is nestled in the same familiar soft cream tones as the salon and guest staterooms; strategically placed immense chairs and settee, game table and desk round out this spectacular room. The wall panels, made from papaya tree bark, feature immaculate joinery. An ample rectangular aft deck dining table provided for alfresco dining at its best. It can be extended to comfortably sit up to 16 guests. Distinctly absent onboard RoMa yacht is the din of competing colors and patterns. Guests are greeted with a serene interior design that appears effortlessly chic.

Main Salon: The oversized main salon is comprised of versatile seating areas that are especially designed with entertaining or relaxing in mind. An outstanding feature on this deck are the backlit onyx bar, dining and coffee tables. The dining area is just forward of the salon and showcases the circular dining table that will comfortably seat 12 guests in style, while savory gourmet meals are prepared to order.

Master Suite: Forward on the desirable main deck, the floor-plan raises above a staircase leading to the voluminous master suite. Another three guest cabins are also located on this same deck albeit on the same floor-plan as the salon. The Master suite, being on the same deck although on a higher location warrants real intimacy for its occupants. It exudes an understate elegance and features a king size bed as well as a pullout sofa for added flexibility. Its panoramic windows allow natural light to pour into the suite filing every corner of it. The master suite’s regal bathroom is fitted with a bathtub, shower, his & hers hand wash basins and wc. An enviable dressing room complements this fabulous master suite.

Guests’ staterooms: Two VIPs and a double guest stateroom are located on the main deck level of Roma superyacht and feature en-suite bathrooms as well as a writing desk and separate seating areas. Each of the guest staterooms is swathed in champagne and cream tones with an alternate color theme repeated in the detailing. A fifth guest stateroom is located on the upper deck, aft of the helm station, while the sixth stateroom, a convertible, is situated on the lower deck for those who may enjoy a little more privacy.

In April 2021 all six cabins had the soft furnishing of all panels, headboards, and door handles replaced.

Other outstanding features: One of RoMa’s most impressive features, very popular with the younger guests, is an on-board cinema, the walls of which are adorned with minuscule fibre optic lights imitating the fascinating bioluminescence of the sea, produced by microscopic algae.

RoMa yacht is child-friendly with a genuinely child-friendly crew. She's also wheelchair friendly thanks to the width of all aisles and doors with the added plus of the elevator servicing four decks (lower deck to upper deck. The elevator does not get to the sundeck, but the crew is trained to help guests with mobility issues get to the sundeck regardless how serious the issues are. on RoMa no one is left behind!).

In terms of entertainment, RoMa is unsurpassed in luxury amenities and water-toys for an unforgettable charter experience. Her fantastic outdoor spaces are equally impressive, featuring a private beach-club and an unbeatable array of toys including a brand new water-slide which towers above the sea-level all the way up to the sun deck. Even the fainted-hearted find themselves lured to it! Then come the paddle boards, water skies, jet skis, the enormous anti-jelly-fish pool which also serves to sunbathe, the seabobs, snorkel gear for guests of all ages, the inflatable water toys, a Castoldi Jet tender, water-golf game with balls that turn into fish food when they enter in touch with the sea water, etc. But, unarguably, one RoMa’s most unique features is T/T RoMa a 16.9m (55’ft) Anvera chase tender which is a small yacht on her own right: her interior features a salon, bathroom with shower and a cabin with a double bed whilst her exterior features a covered exterior seating area with a table to enjoy light food prepared on board, a service station for the crew and an incredibly vast aft deck which is ideal for sunbathing, getting ready for a nice scuba diving adventure, or deciding which of the many sea-water toys to use next. T/T RoMa can reach an exhilarating speed of up to 30 knots and is a sea-limousine of sorts when bringing guests ashore.

RoMa is the first yacht of her kind certified as PADI Superyacht Dive Boat and is also Yacht Scuba Safety certified. This means that guests can complete PADI dive courses on board and obtain a proper scuba diving license which they can use to dive wherever else they go in the whole wide world. Licenses obtained on board other yachts are only valid for the duration of the charter. The Yacht Scuba Safety Certificate warrants that the scuba diving courses imparted on board follow the highest safety standards and that RoMa’s dive masters and dive instructors have followed specific courses to warrant that guests diving with them will be supervised by a scuba-diving professional. But there is more than just scuba diving! RoMa is also an approved RYA Personal Water Craft (PWC) School; guests who don’t hold a license to drive a jet sky but would love to experience how fun it is only need to follow a short course on board to obtain a license which enables users to drive the RoMa’s PWC toys.

With a licensed masseuse/beautician on board, guests can enjoy the benefits of a luxury spa at sea. But that isn’t all: for those wishing to exercise mind & body simultaneously RoMa offers top quality yoga mats and yoga blocks. Furthermore,. Captain Janusz always tries to find a moment -even if it is just five minutes- to meditate and increase his mindfulness. If any of the guests wants to discover the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, the Captain will be only too happy to share his knowledge on these subjects.

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch missing after superyacht sinks in storm off coast of Sicily

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, his lawyer and four other people are missing after a superyacht carrying 22 people sank off the coast of Sicily, authorities say. 

Fifteen people, including Mr Lynch's wife, have been rescued after the boat was hit by a violent storm at sunrise, according to the Italian Coast Guard.

Mr Lynch's wife and 14 other people were rescued, including a one-year-old girl, and one person has died.

A person familiar with the rescue operation confirmed to Reuters that Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah has not been accounted for.

The British-flagged, 56-metre Bayesian had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers, representing British, American and Canadian nationalities, the Italian Coast Guard said.

Managers of the sailing yacht Bayesian, Camper & Nicholsons, confirmed to the ABC that the Bayesian encountered severe weather and subsequently sank near the Sicilian capital Palermo, Italy, at 4:30am Monday, local time. 

"Our priority is assisting with the ongoing search and providing all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew," they said. 

Fifteen people were rescued and taken to shore at Porticello, where eight were receiving treatment in hospital and remain in a stable condition, the Italian Coast Guard said.

One body has been recovered and police divers were trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 meters where it had been anchored.

British Bill Gates missing

Mr Lynch is often dubbed by UK media as "the British Bill Gates" and the BBC confirmed the luxury yacht was tied to his wife, Angela Bacares.

According to maritime data service Equasis, the owner of the the Bayesian is listed as Revtom Ltd, the BBC reported.

Additionally, the yacht's name would resonate with Mr Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.

Mr Lynch was acquitted in June by a jury in San Francisco of fraud charges linked to the sale of his software company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $US11 billion ($16.4 billion) in 2011.

He said at the time that he was "elated" to be cleared in the criminal trial in which he denied any wrongdoing, and blamed HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

In a separate incident, Mr Lynch's co-defendant in the trial, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Monday after a road accident left him critically injured.

Mr Chamberlain — Autonomy's former vice-president of finance alongside Mr Lynch — had been placed on life support after being hit by a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning.

Rescued baby held above waves 

The coast guard said that rescue efforts had located the wreck at a depth of 50 metres underwater. 

The Italian fire and rescue service agency said search operations at sea were continuing with the coordination of the Italian Coast Guard, in a translated post on the social media platform X. 

One of the survivors, identified only as Charlotte, said she had momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

A spokesperson for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said they were providing support to British nationals.

"We are providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families following an incident in Sicily, and are in contact with the local authorities"

Captain of nearby boat helped rescue passengers

The captain of a nearby boat that helped to rescue passengers from the Bayesian said that when the storm hit he turned his engine on to keep control of the vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian.

"We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," Karsten Borner told Reuters.

He said that his crew then found 15 survivors on a life raft, including three who were seriously injured and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

"There were 15 people inside," he said.

"Then we communicated with the Coast Guard and after some time, the Coast Guard came and later picked up injured people, and 2 hours later they picked up the other people."

Mr Borner said "a little baby and the wife of the owner" were among the survivors, while the owner of the sunken ship and another child were among those missing.

He described the conditions as "very strong" and said that his vessel was "heeling" but the Bayesian "went flat on the water and then down".

"There was a light and we saw that the ship was aside and then we saw a triangle," he said.

"So I think she went back down."

Storms and heavy rainfall swept Italy in recent days

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what had gone wrong.

"The wind was very strong," a coast guard official in Palermo told Reuters.

"Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude."

After weeks of scorching heat, storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days — with floods and landslides causing major damage in the north of the country. 

Local media said a fierce storm, including water spouts, had battered the area overnight but skies were clear and seas calm by Monday morning.

The ANSA news agency said the yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, had been moored off the port at Porticello.

The yacht had won a string of awards for its design and can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

The Bayesian was known for its single 75-meter mast, one of the world’s tallest made of aluminium and which was lit up at night, just hours before it sank.

T wo Americans, four Britons, and a Canadian are missing or believed dead after a luxury yacht sank Monday near the coast of Sicily, Italy.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch is among the missing and the boat belonged to his family, a source familiar with the matter confirmed with TIME. His wife, Angela Bacares, was confirmed to be among those rescued. 

In June, Lynch was found not-guilty of fraud after a nearly 13-year-long saga. where he faced the possibility of up to 25 years in prison. Lynch, who sold his company Autonomy to Hewlett Packard (HP) for $11.1 billion in 2011, was accused of serious accounting improprieties by HP after the acquisition. HP executives went on to write down $8.8 billion of the company’s value and accused Lynch of fraud. Lynch faced legal battles for over a decade before being acquitted by a California jury in June. 

“I am looking forward to returning to the U.K. and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field,” he said when he was acquitted earlier this summer, per the Guardian. 

So far, one unidentified body has been found, but the six other people remain unaccounted for, according to authorities. The accident occurred during a storm on Monday, Italian Coast Guard officials said. The boat was carrying 22 people, 15 of whom were successfully rescued, the youngest of whom was a 1-year-old child.

The Italian Coast Guard told TIME in a statement that a 56-meter yacht named Bayesian that was flying the U.K. flag sank around 5 a.m. local time following a violent storm. 

Italian media reported that the yacht was struck by a waterspout, a miniature version of a tornado, during the storm, causing the boat to capsize. 

Of the 15 people rescued, eight were transferred to local hospitals, including the 1-year old child. So far, they are all reported to be in stable condition, according to Italian media .

Specialist divers are now attempting to inspect the shipwreck for bodies, which is located at a depth of approximately 160 feet. A helicopter is also on the scene to help search the surface for survivors, according to the BBC . The public prosecutor in the Italian city of Termini Imerese has opened an investigation into the incident. The yacht was built in 2008 by the Italian shipmaker Perini, according to the website Yacht Charter Fleet . It was designed to carry up to 12 passengers and 10 crew members. The vessel was capable of reaching speeds of up to 15 knots and comfortably cruising at speeds of 12 knots. The ship had set sail from the Italian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 and was headed toward another Sicilian port called Bagheria, where it was expected to arrive on Sep. 18 according to the website Vessel Finder .

A British tech magnate and several other people are missing after a luxury superyacht sank near Sicily’s main city, Palermo, during a violent storm, Italian officials and sources familiar with the matter told CNBC . At least one person was killed.

Mike Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was not among those rescued, said the sources, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation. They added that Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, had been plucked from the waters off the Italian island.

Lynch was among six people who were unaccounted for, The Associated Press quoted Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency as saying. “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said. Cocina also confirmed that Bacares had survived.

Italy's coast guard said in a statement that the 184-foot sailboat, named the Bayesian, sank “due to a violent storm” off Palermo at around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET) with 22 people on board. Fifteen people were rescued, and six passengers were missing, it said.

American, British and Canadian citizens were among the missing, the statement said. The coast guard said in later statement that the ship’s cook had died. It did not give the cook's nationality.  

Karsten Borner, the captain of a ship that rescued the survivors, told reporters that there was a “strong hurricane gust, and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position,” according to Reuters.

He added that they had “watched the ship behind us not to touch them and we managed to keep the ship in position.” After the storm was over, he said, “we noticed that the ship behind us was gone.”

“Fifteen people inside. Four people were injured, three heavily injured, and we brought them to our ship, he said. “Then we communicated with the coast guard, and after some time, the coast guard came and later picked up injured people.”

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Emsley, 35, told the Italian news agency ANSA that she had momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but managed to retrieve her and hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were pulled to safety.

“I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tight, close to me, while the sea was stormy,” she said. “Many were screaming. Luckily, the lifeboat inflated, and 11 of us managed to get on it.”

The City Council of Bagheria said in a statement that a child of that age was being treated at a children’s hospital. It said that seven adults were taken to the emergency room but that “it seems that none are in serious conditions.” 

Lynch, 59, the missing tech entrepreneur, founded the enterprise software firm Autonomy and became the target of a protracted legal battle with Hewlett-Packard after the U.S. tech giant accused him of inflating the company’s value in an $11 billion sale. Extradited from Britain to the U.S. last year to stand trial, he was acquitted of fraud after a three-month trial.

Italy’s national fire department said in a statement that “divers, a motorboat and a helicopter” had been deployed to help with the search. The wreck was at a depth of around 165 feet, the statement said.  

Divers from the Sicilian city of Sassri and Naples, a city on the Italian mainland , were “arriving on site to search inside the sunken vessel,” it said. 

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian has an aluminum hull and can carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Online sites list the luxury vessel for charter for up to 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week, the AP reported.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Wednesday and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of “at anchor,” according to the vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.

Fabio La Bianca, 40, took a picture of the boat at around 10 p.m. local time Sunday shortly after he closed his bar in nearby Santa Flavia. “Absurd tragedy tonight. I am lost for words,” he said Monday on Facebook.
