It’s not easy to keep a 285-foot superyacht under wraps for a whole year, but Feadship has managed to do exactly that. The Dutch yard has kept showstopper Lonian hidden since her launch in 2019, but now it’s finally ready to show her off.

The vessel was kept secret at the request of the owners, who wanted to enjoy a full year of private cruising without any publicity. That feat was relatively easy to achieve since the superyacht is packed with everything you could ever want or need, and has been specifically designed for life at sea.

In fact, Lonian spends little time moored in marinas and instead cruises the world with a “flotilla” of toys and tenders, plus a 217-foot support vessel that carries additional equipment and a crew of 22.

With exteriors penned by Sinot , Lonian sports a deep blue hull and dramatic bow, and is surprisingly slimline given her size. She features extensive glass and stainless steel for a decidedly modern feel.

“She has the presence and stance of a beefy motoryacht while retaining an elegant and slender air,” the yard said.

But let’s talk about life onboard. Her knockout feature is an utterly unique glass swimming pool located aft. It has a translucent bottom that doubles as the ceiling of the beach club below and a built-in movie screen integrated into the edge of the pool, because why not?

Not to be outdone, her automated swim platform on the transom hatch opens and closes like the roof of a convertible car. The teak hatch opens first, and the aft door descends before the hatch closes again, leaving no visible sign of a threshold or door.

Elsewhere, the expansive foredeck on the owner’s deck has a jacuzzi with bespoke cooling and heating functionality. This was specifically requested by the exacting owners, who like relaxing in the chilled plunge pool after a sweat sesh at the bridge deck gym.

Lonian features 22 different openings—platforms, hatches and doors—which creates a seamless outdoor-indoor flow and allows guests to easily access the surrounding waters. If further exploration is required, there’s also an Airbus ACH145 helicopter on board.

The interiors, penned by Sinot and Richard Hallberg Interior Design , remain private, but Feadship did reveal there is a glass elevator to serve all five decks and an epic lounge with full-beam panoramic views. The vessel can sleep a total of 14 guests across seven cabins, including an owner’s stateroom, four generous guest staterooms and two VIP suites. There are also 15 crew cabins and one captain’s cabin.

LONIAN is a 87.0 m Motor Yacht, built in Netherlands by Feadship and delivered in 2018.

Her power comes from two MTU diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 14 guests in 7 staterooms, with 27 crew members. She has a gross tonnage of 2700.0 GT and a 13.8 m beam.

She was designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design , who has designed 15 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database.

The naval architecture was developed by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects , who has architected 105 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database, and the interior of the yacht was designed by Richard Hallberg Interior Design and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design (35 other superyacht interiors designed) - she is built with a Teak deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

LONIAN is in the top 5% by LOA in the world. She is one of 66 motor yachts in the 80-90m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her volume is 252.74 GT above the average.

LONIAN is currently sailing under the Cayman Islands flag, the 2nd most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 1412 yachts registered. She is known to be an active superyacht and has most recently been spotted cruising near United States of America. First images of Feadship’s 87m M/Y 'Lonian' released

Images of the superyacht have previously been kept out of the media since her launch in july 2018….

Nothing has been seen of 87m M/Y Lonian since a six-minute time-lapse film of her build premiered at her launch, in July 2018, was shared on Feadship’s YouTube channel. The low profile of the yacht since has been attributed to the owner’s request for a year of private cruising after the launch, with no further publicity. But details, and accompanying images have now been released.

The owners reportedly chose Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design for Lonian’ s exterior styling because they like the Dutch studio’s masculine style. The ‘Majestic Blue’ hull proved to be a challenge that was overcome by Feadship’s paint team, as the colour is often unforgiving of any faults. Another design feature of Lonian is the quantity of stainless steel used: which is used on the V-cut feature on the port and starboard side to the boat’s bow to give the boat a dramatic effect.

There is also a wealth of glass used in the wide body section of a design that, according to Feadship, ‘is surprisingly slimline considering the full-beam main deck with no sidewalks’. One of the owner’s requests was for a swimming pool with a translucent bottom that would double up as part of the ceiling of the beach club below. A cinema screen is also integrated at the end of the pool.

The owner’s deck features a giant skylight and large flush foredeck. Guests can benefit from the exclusivity of the balconies with exterior sliding doors on the two VIP staterooms and those arriving by tender can make use of a smart boat boom solution made possible by the absence of gangways. These extended telescopic booms allow tenders to attach to the platform on the starboard side and comfortably access the guest entrance. Featuring a fully-equipped deck for an AW169 helicopter, Lonian is also accessible by air. The helideck also has a substantial crane capable of lifting 3.5 tonnes if any tender needs a home for the night.

 To optimise the enjoyment of available space on board, the 87m vessel travels with a 66m support vessel to transport even more equipment, along with up to 20 crew. In addition to this, the yacht has 22 different openings to create an open feel on board.

Another feature that isn’t visible in the images is the high-end audio installation. The rest of Lonian’ s interior, created by Sinot in collaboration with Richard Hallberg Interior Design, will remain private. However, it has been revealed that it includes a glass elevator serving all five decks and a main deck lounge absent of any pillars that could interrupt the panoramic views.

According to data supplied by The Superyacht Agency, since the launch of Lonian in 2018, Feadship has seen its average delivered LOA creep up. Delivering five boats with an average LOA of 73.7m last year, in 2019 it has delivered four with an average of 75.3m. Although this may only be a slight increase, looking at the shipyard’s order book for the next two years this increase is set to continue. If all orders are successfully delivered within this timeframe, Feadship’s delivery figure is set to reach the lofty average LOA of 84.9m in 2021.

Las Vegas billionaire has 2 megayachts docked in Maine at once

PORTLAND, Maine ( BDN ) -- The billionaire owner of a megayacht visiting the Portland Harbor this week is so rich he brought along a second megayacht just to house all his expensive toys.

The second vessel, the 217-foot Hodor, was purposely designed to trail the 285-foot Lonian. The Hodor is likely hauling a crew of 20, five smaller boats, an array of jet skis, and a set of four-wheelers for use on land, according to the website Superyacht Fan. The Hodor can reportedly also accommodate a 6-ton helicopter, though none was spotted Wednesday morning.

Both boats, now at Fore Points Marina, are owned by Las Vegas casino tycoon and former Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

A private, motor-driven pleasure boat longer than 24 meters — or about 80 feet — is usually called a superyacht. But larger vessels over 60 meters — or 196 feet, like Fertitta’s boats — are known as megayachts

Superyacht Fan estimates the Hodor cost $30 million when it was new in 2019 and now costs between $3 million and $5 million to operate and maintain every year. But that astronomical price is a bargain compared to its mothership, the Lonian. The website reckons it was purchased for $160 million in 2018 and costs upwards of $15 million annually.

Fertitta’s pair of ultra-expensive vessels aren’t the only megayachts in town.

Parked at the next slip over is the Cayman Islands-flagged, 242-foot M&EM, which can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins, along with a crew of 19, according to Amels Yachts, the Dutch company which built it in 2022. The M&EM can cruise at 16.5 knots and has a range of about 5,000 nautical miles.

It isn’t clear who owns the M&EM, but according to Vesselfinder, it arrived in Portland on Sept. 1 after being spotted in Portugal on Aug 25.

Also at Fore Points is the relatively small, 166-foot superyacht Sapphire, built in 2009. According to big-boat broker Denison Yachting, the Sapphire had an extensive retrofit in 2019 and can sleep up to 20 guests in seven staterooms. It’s for sale with an asking price of $15 million.

Released by Feadship earlier today, a time-lapse video showing the 87m/285ft motor yacht LONIAN going from construction through to delivery is simply breathtaking.

From her beginnings at the Scheepswerf Slob facility in Merwede to the final touches conducted at Feadship’s De Vries facility, the journey of the brand new Feadship superyacht LONIAN has been expertly captured on film.

In the never before seen footage, the viewer is able to obtain a first hand look at the various stages of constructions that led to the completion of what is certain to be an iconic superyacht.

Giving a real sense of her incredible proportions, the film gets up and close and personal to her various spaces, and concludes with some stunning shots of her sleek midnight navy hull.

Enjoying a technical launch in June of 2017, superyacht LONIAN is unquestionably one of the most anticipated yachts from the legendary yard.

With a total of four decks on offer to her owner, it has been reported that she features a helipad, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, and a even a dedicated tender garage to make getting to and from the vessel a complete joy.

By way of background, my business interests include controlling stakes in 3 publicly traded companies which operate vessels in the 500 to 5000dwt range.
