Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail

Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.

Koru, a very large sailboat with three masts and a dark navy hull, sails on a calm blue sea.

By Kevin Koenig

Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.

Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)

A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.

For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”

Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.

The Experience

Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”

“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”

Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.

Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”

Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)

Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.

The Kerfuffle

Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.

When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.

Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.

Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”

“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Much like Amazon, Jeff Bezos’ $500 million superyacht offers every bell and whistle imaginable, from A to Z.

The colossal, triple-masted Koru began its career serving the world’s third richest man this week, cruising the Mediterranean around Mallorca.

The 417-foot schooner first left Rotterdam in the Netherlands for sea trials in February. Dropping anchor in Mallorca put its jaw-dropping size on full display.

It also showed the extent of Bezos’ fleet: Not only did the Koru sail into harbor, so did its support vessel, Abeona, a mega-boat in its own right, the luxurious fast-launches used to move between the two — and aerial support in the form of his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez’s personal helicopter.

Sanchez also seemingly serves the fleet’s mascot, with the Koru’s figurehead, a part of traditional large sailing ships, modeled after her.

The Koru is the world’s tallest sailing yacht. Its three huge 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail-power alone.

What's on board the Koru, Jeff Bezos' ultra-luxe sailing yacht.

The masts are so tall that Dutch officials considered dismantling the 95-year-old Koningshaven Bridge to allow the vessel past the 131-foot span on its journey from the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam through Rotterdam to the North Sea.

That controversial plan was scrapped after local backlash, including residents being urged to toss eggs at Bezos’ “latest toy,”  the New York Times reported . The superyacht, previously known as Y721, was instead towed to a shipyard in Rotterdam, downstream of the bridge, without its masts.

Jeff Bezos at helm

Bezos, 59, and the bikini-clad Sanchez, 53, appeared ready for the summer as the pair soaked up the sun aboard Koru, a Māori word for loop or coil that symbolizes new beginnings — possibly a coy reference to their relationship.

Sanchez started secretly dating the Blue Origin founder in the summer of 2018. Bezos then announced in January 2019 he and his wife Mackenzie were divorcing after 25 years , while Sanchez finalized her split from husband Patrick Whitesell later that year.

Sanchez plays a critical role in the Bezos fleet: As a helicopter pilot, she was seen landing on the Abeona. She was also at Bezos’ side when he took the wheel of the Koru.

Abeona

Koru was first seen under construction in 2021 at Oceano’s yard. The company is owned by a fellow billionaire, Oman’s Mohammed Al Barwani.

As many as 18 guests can enjoy the yacht’s three outdoor decks, including one with two pools. The vessel, which has a crew of up to 36, also boasts a cinema, meeting spaces and lounges,  Luxuo reported .

Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez

Every detail is designed for luxury, even down to the masts’ technology.

Bezos opted for high-tech “in-boom furlers,” which store the vast canvases at the bottom of the mast, above the deck. Each weighs nearly 2,000 pounds, but they allow his deck to be kept clear of ropes.

Clearing ropes out of the way maximizes entertaining space, and allows for a hot tub forward of the mainmast.

The yacht is also built for speed. Its three masts provide “one of the largest sail areas ever seen in yachting,”  according to SuperYacht Times .

jeff bezos two yachts

The Koru’s original designer, and the identity of its captain, remain secret. Boat International noted : “With the elegant curve of the bow and a bowsprit, the lines are certainly classic, but we still have no idea which designer drew them.”

The Cayman Islands-flagged vessel also has engine power like most sailing yachts.

And while other billionaires measure yachts by size, Bezos’ is only the 24th largest.

Abeona

However, since Koru’s masts rule out a helicopter deck, the billionaire commissioned a support vessel, Abeona, named for the Roman goddess of outward journeys.

In addition to a helipad, the 246-foot Abeona features an extra two staterooms for four guests and as many as 45 crew and support staff.

It’s the largest custom-built support vessel ever manufactured by Damen Yachting. On board in Mallorca were at least four jetskis, two fast launches, and an additional dinghy. Its heavy winch is capable of lifting a small submarine, although Bezos is not believed to have one thus far.

Koru's pool

The “classic exterior lines” of Koru, are reminiscent of another billionaire’s boat: Eos, a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller, 81, who may have inspired Bezos after hosting him on the vessel.

Favored by megastars like Katy Perry and Bradley Cooper — who were Diller’s guests during 2019’s Google Camp in Sicily — the German-built Eos can accommodate up to 16 guests and 21 crew.

It was the largest private sailing yacht in the world when it was completed in 2006. Diller, chairman of IAC and Expedia, who is worth $3.9 billion, bought it three years later. Intriguingly, its figurehead is modeled on Diller’s wife Diane von Fürstenberg, the fashion designer.

But the $200 million, 305-foot schooner is now dwarfed by Bezos’ boat.

Koru under sail

As Koru sailed in the Balearic Sea this week off the coast of Spain, Bezos’ boat symbolically surges past several other tech billionaires’ vessels – including Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s $80 million, 240-foot Dragonfly, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s, $160 million, 288-foot Musashi.

It will cost Bezos, 59, an estimated $25 million per year to operate Koru, but the world’s third-richest man isn’t likely to need a loan with his $140.6 billion fortune,  according to Forbes .

Eos

Bezos’ use of sailpower sets him apart from most billionaires, but others are seeking a hi-tech zero-carbon power source: a Japanese billionaire has reportedly commissioned the world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht.

Germany’s Lürssen Yachts announced in March that they had a hydrogen-powered superyacht in advanced construction.

It declined to identify the future owner of the unnamed superyacht, but specialist publication FuelCellsWorks reported Japanese billionaire tech Yusaku Maezawa, worth an estimated $1.7 billion, commissioned the innovative effort.

Bezos: How his yacht compares to other tech billionaires.

Dubbed Project Cosmos, the 374-foot superyacht is designed by Apple’s legendary Marc Newson and was first unveiled in early March at Lürssen’s facility in Rendsburg, Germany.

Once completed as soon as next year, the vessel is expected to utilize emission-free fuel cell technology to generate power lasting up to 15 days while anchored or to travel as far as 1,000 miles at slow speeds.

Three other major shipyards, including in Italy and the Netherlands, are likely to launch their own hydrogen started outfitting newly constructed vessels with hydrogen fuel cells as of March 2022, with the first models reportedly expected in 2024.

Other megayachts expected to soon join Bezos’ Koru in the water include two Lürssen models, the 475-foot Luminance and the 400-foot Jag, and Feadship 821, a 389-foot offering from the Netherlands manufacturer.

Azzam, world's longest superyacht

But even those won’t best the biggest megayacht in the world, the 593-foot Azzam, which launched in 2013 after being commissioned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates who died last year.

Azzam, which means determination in Arabic, reportedly cost more than $600 million and is nearly 60 feet longer than the world’s second-largest yacht, the 533-foot Eclipse, owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

Those monster vessels are expected to be surpassed next year by REV, a 600-foot yacht under construction in Norway which will have space for 36 guests and 54 crewmembers, according to Boat International .

Has the World Finally Had a Glimpse of Jeff Bezos’s $500 Million Mega-Yacht?

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is appears to be getting closer to welcoming the superyacht he reportedly commissioned in 2018: a fancy toy fitting for the world’s second-richest person, given that it costs a reported $500 million and breaks one world record after another.

Called Y721, this vessel of all vessels is being custom designed by Dutch builder Oceanco and was spotted at a shipyard last week in Zwijndrecht, a town in the western Netherlands. It’s reportedly heading to another Netherlands town, Alblasserdam, for a final fitting. With a length of 417 feet, Y721 is the biggest sailing yacht in the world and the longest vessel to be built in the Netherlands. Features include a black hull, classic shape, three large decks, and three masts.

Superyacht Bravo Eugenia , belonging to the U.S. billionaire Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, was built by Oceanco, which is also rumored to be behind Bezos’s new massive vessel.

Y721 is going to totally change the world of yachting with its design and innovation, says Fernando Nicholson, a luxury yacht sales broker with the yachting company Camper & Nicholsons. “It’s a boat with the latest technology and bells and whistles that have never been seen,” he says. “This will be the standard for all superyachts to follow, but in years to come, when its features become more affordable. Right now, only someone with Bezos’s wealth can swing the cost.”

The superyacht is said to be modeled after Oceanco’s famous yacht, the Black Pearl , which the company site says , “is one of the largest and most ecological sailing yachts in the world. She can cross the Atlantic without burning even a liter of fossil fuel.” Y721 will go through sea trails following its fitting-out in Alblasserdam and is expected to be ready sometime next year.

The Flying Fox , allegedly owned by Bezos.

However, it’s only one of two new boats for Bezos: He has also commissioned a shadow vessel called YS 7512 from builder Damen Yachts. This support ship measures 246 feet in length and accommodates 45 additional crew and guests. It will also feature a helipad and meeting space and have a vast amount of storage for Bezos’s endless number of water toys, with diving and snorkeling gear, jet and water skis, waterslides, and surfboards among the bunch. Shadow vessels are a growing phenomenon in the superyacht industry and one more extra toy that their owners want to have at the ready, says Nicholson. “You see them more and more now as an add-on to a superyacht purchase,” he says. “They’ve almost become a must.”

There’s no doubt that Bezos will be sailing the high seas in full panache and style come 2022. But really, is there any other way when you have more money than almost anyone else in the world and attract an endless amount of attention too?

Jeff Bezos Needs Not One But Two Superyachts

Amazon founder and world’s second richest man, Jeff Bezos, is about take delivery of not one but two superyachts. Why does he need two yachts? Because apparently his new 417 foot primary yacht can’t hold all his toys. That’s what the 246 foot support yacht is for. Check them out.

Project Y721 – World’s Largest Sailing Yacht

jeff bezos two yachts

Jeff Bezos’ primary yacht, codename Project Y721, is built by Oceanco , the same shipbuilder that’s building Steven Spielberg’s new 358 foot superyacht (Project Y720). Unlike Spielberg’s yacht, Project Y721 will be a sailing yacht because Jeff wants to be more environmentally friendly. At least that’s what his publicist will say.

When Jeff takes delivery later this year, Y721 will become the biggest private sailing yacht in the world, beating out the 350 foot Black Pearl (picture below), also built by Oceanco, by a good 67 foot. Y721 is also the largest yacht ever made by Oceano and the longest vessel to be built in the Netherlands.

jeff bezos two yachts

Project Y721 is 417 foot long and will use a triple sailing mast similar to the Black Pearl. Oceanco claims the technologies used in Project Y721 will allow it to cruise across the ocean on wind power alone. I’m sure Christopher Columbus would be in awe by such amazing technologies, if he was alive today.

jeff bezos two yachts

When not on wind power, which is probably most of the time, Y721 is powered by two giant MTU engines that can push the 4,000 ton behemoth up to 20 knots. At a normal 15 knot cruising speed, she’ll burns a gallon of fuel every 9 seconds.

Project Y721 will accommodate up to 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 to run. At an estimated cost of over $500 million, she is among the most expensive yachts ever built. But wait, there’s more!

The 246 Foot Shadow Yacht

jeff bezos two yachts

Unlike a normal superyacht, Jeff’s sailing boat will be accompanied by what’s known in the industry as a shadow yacht. A shadow yacht is a trailer yacht for your superyacht – a floating garage of a sort that tags along or “shadows” your primary yacht to carry your collection of helicopters, cars, motorcycles, jet skis, tenders, submarines, etc.

Because the shadow yacht carry all toys for the primary yacht, it frees up the designers to give the primary yacht more living space. That’s a good thing because a lack of living space is clearly a problem in a 417 foot boat.

jeff bezos two yachts

The shadow yacht, codename YS7512, is 246 foot long and is currently under construction at Damen Yachting . At 1,900 tons, YS7512 is the largest vessel in the Damen Yacht support range. YS7512 can accommodate 45 people including crew, specialist staff and guests not good enough to stay on the primary yacht.

You may ask why didn’t Jeff just made one huge megayacht that can hold everything instead of commissioning a primary yacht and a shadow yacht. The reason is it’s actually cheaper this way. A shadow yacht is mainly used for support and doesn’t need to be as luxurious as the primary yacht. If YS7512 were a normal superyacht, it would easily cost over $250 million. As a support yacht however, it can be built for only $95 million.

Jeff Bezos Used Be Among The Greenest Billionaires

jeff bezos two yachts

For being the second richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos used to have a much lower carbon footprint than billionaires who are much poorer than him. However, adding two superyachts is sure to rocket Jeff up to the number one spot for billionaire emissions, especially with Roman Abramovich docking his yacht in Turkey to avoid it being seized.

Jeff bezos to sell $5 billion in amazon shares: could he be raising cash for seattle seahawks purchase.

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ) founder Jeff Bezos is selling another portion of his stake in the company, which comes years after stepping down from the CEO role .

What Happened: Bezos departed from Amazon’s c-suite in 2021, a role he held for the 27 years since the company was founded. The Amazon founder now serves as the e-commerce giant’s executive chair. He’s been selling a portion of his Amazon stake this year.

Don't Miss:

Amid the ongoing EV revolution, previously overlooked low-income communities now harbor a huge investment opportunity at just $500.

Miami is expected to take New York's place as the U.S. Financial Capital. Here's how you can invest in the city before that happens .

This Jeff Bezos-backed startup will allow you to become a landlord in just 10 minutes, and you only need $100 .

Bezos sold $8.5 billion in shares in February . A Tuesday SEC filing by Amazon shows Bezos plans on selling 25 million Amazon shares valued at $4.93 billion.

The new sale would bring Bezos’ total sold to around $13.4 billion in stock in 2024. Bezos owns around 9% of Amazon shares, according to a report from the Financial Times.

What's Next : Bezos could be selling shares for a number of reasons. The Amazon founder is spending more time working on his space company Blue Origin and other ventures.

Bezos is also set to wed Lauren Sanchez and has spent more time vacationing aboard his $500 million yacht Koru, which costs $25 million annually to operate.

Speculation could grow that Bezos is raising cash to make a push to own a National Football League team. Bezos was previously linked with making a bid for the Washington Commanders, a D.C.-based NFL team.

Reports said Bezos may have been blocked from bidding due to a personal grudge held by former Commanders owner Daniel Snyder. In the end, Bezos didn't formally bid on the team and the Commanders were sold to a group for $6.05 billion.

Trending: How do billionaires pay less in income tax than you? Tax deferring is their number one strategy .

The sale was the largest in sports history, but could be topped if more NFL teams are sold in the future.

Bezos has been linked to making a push to buying the Seattle Seahawks. A previous Washington Post report said NFL owners support Bezos joining the league.

"Other owners have expressed a desire for Bezos to buy a team. Bezos could get that opportunity if he pursues the Seattle Seahawks. That team is expected to be sold in the coming years," the report said.

The report said, "Bezos knows that Seattle is sitting there."

The Seahawks, who were valued at $5 billion by Forbes last year, are owned by the Paul G. Allen Trust. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen previously owned the team before his death in 2018. The assets are expected to be sold in the coming years. Allen made instructions that the trust would be liquidated after his death with proceeds going to philanthropic efforts.

While Bezos may have moved from Seattle to Florida, the Amazon founder will forever be linked to the Washington city and the Seahawks could lure him back to the city, at least on a part-time basis.

One lingering question mark could be whether the NFL would approve a sale to Bezos with Amazon.com having broadcast rights to Thursday Night Football games.

Bezos is worth $222 billion , ranking second in the world in wealth behind Elon Musk ($241 billion), according to Bloomberg.

AMZN Price Action: Amazon shares are down 1% to $197.82 Wednesday after hitting new all-time highs of $200.43 on Tuesday.

Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are bullish on one city that could dethrone New York and become the new financial capital of the US. Investing in its booming real estate market has never been more accessible.

Jeff Bezos' bizarre two-pizza rule broken down by business owner

Jeff Bezos' bizarre two-pizza rule broken down by business owner

Jeff bezos might be able to afford all the pizzas he wants, but he has a limit when it comes to his teams.

Emily Brown

Emily Brown

A CCO and business owner has shared his thoughts on Jeff Bezos' unusual 'two-pizza' rule when it comes to building teams.

As the founder of Amazon , I think it's safe to say Bezos knows what he's doing when it comes to creating a successful business .

His company provides millions of people with the products they need at the touch of the button, but it's not just the ease of Amazon that's made Bezos successful.

Instead, the CEO has certain rules he lives by to help his business run as efficiently as possible, and one of those includes a two pizza limit .

Now I know what you're thinking - two pizzas for the whole of Amazon? Well, not quite.

Instead, Bezos limits the size of each of his team at Amazon so that they can, in theory, be fed with just two pizzas.

This 'rule' is supposedly meant to help ensure a team’s maximum efficiency, encouraging teams to stay focused, have a clearer idea of what they’re supposed to do each day, and waste less time in meetings through being in constant with each other.

But does it really work? Well, according to Alex Brown, CCO of social first marketing agency Campfire , the 'two-pizza' rule does have its benefits.

Alex Brown co-founded Campfire with Joe Gradwell in 2019. (LinkedIn)

Speaking to UNILAD, Brown explained how his company has implemented a similar process to Bezos in the form of 'client pods', which are theoretically big enough to feed with two pizzas.

He explained: "We don't actually work in departmental teams - for example, a paid media team, influencer team - which are all larger than 10 people and, in theory, don't meet Jeff Bezos' two pizza rule.

"We actually have smaller teams that are made up out of those teams, which all cover different bases. So there'll be a couple of people from an influencer team, a couple of people from a paid team, one person from an accounts management team. We call those client pods, and that way, they can get to know people a lot better, you can develop relationships with those people a lot better."

By keeping teams small, as Bezos does, Brown explained those involved feel 'a lot more comfortable' with each other.

Bezos has certain keys to success. (Dave J Hogan/Dave J. Hogan/Getty Images)

"You can come up with better ideas, because you've got that rapport," he said. "You feel more connected to your team, and no one's just like a face or a number or an email.

"They become much more like friends and much more like a community if you keep your tribe small."

The two-pizza rule isn't the only piece of advice Campfire has taken from Bezos, either.

Brown explained the company also tries to follow the Amazon founder's rule for meetings, which involves having a clear agenda laid out at the start of each meeting to ensure it's as efficient as it can be.

So while Bezos' tips can prove useful to companies as a whole, Brown did acknowledge that literally hoping to feed an entire team with two pizzas might come with its issues.

"We can keep the teams small, but while the two pizza rule is great, people can put away a surprising amount of pizza!" he said, before joking: "You know who you are..."

All About Lauren Sánchez's 30-Carat Engagement Ring From Jeff Bezos (Including Its Massive Price Tag)

Jeff Bezos proposed to Lauren Sánchez in 2023 with a pink cushion-cut engagement ring

Lauren Sánchez ’s engagement ring from billionaire Jeff Bezos is some serious bling.

The former TV anchor and Amazon founder confirmed their romance in January 2019. After over four years of dating, Bezos popped the question to Sánchez in May 2023 while the pair were on vacation in the South of France. Sánchez’s engagement ring features a large cushion-cut diamond set on a platinum band.

After news broke of the proposal, a source told PEOPLE that Sánchez was “on cloud nine” about being engaged to Bezos . “No one has ever seen her happier,” the source said. “She is elated to be engaged to Jeff. He is her prince.”

Speaking with Vogue in November 2023, Sánchez shared that while the pair’s wedding plans were still undecided, she “one hundred percent” intends to take Bezos’ last name . As for becoming the wife of a billionaire, the media personality said that she is prepared for the responsibility.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities that come with that, and I take those opportunities very seriously,” she said. “We always look at each other and go, ‘We’re the team.’ So everything’s shared.”

From the design to the proposal, here’s everything to know about Lauren Sánchez’s engagement ring.

Sánchez’s engagement ring is anything but ordinary. The massive sparkler features a cushion-cut diamond — estimated to be about 30 carats — set on a four-prong platinum mounting. While the rock initially appeared to be a classic white diamond, Sánchez confirmed to Vogue in November 2023 that her ring actually includes a more unique pink diamond.

The ring is estimated to cost between $3 and $5 million

Christopher Polk/Variety/Getty

With such a large center stone, it’s no surprise that Sánchez’s engagement ring has a high price tag. Jeweler and expert Briony Raymond told PEOPLE that due to the sparkler’s high color grade and clarity, it is estimated “to be anywhere from $3 million to upwards of $5 million depending on the exact specifications of the diamond."

Bezos proposed to Sánchez in May 2023. The pair were on vacation together in the South of France when the billionaire popped the question. Sánchez was photographed rocking her new accessory as she spent time with her new fiancé on his $500 million yacht named Koru.

Speaking with Vogue in November 2023, Sánchez said she and Bezos had enjoyed a starlit dinner before the proposal. At bedtime, she discovered the former CEO of Amazon had hidden an engagement ring underneath her pillow.

“When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,” Sánchez told the outlet.

As for wedding planning, Sánchez told Vogue that the pair were still enjoying their engagement and had yet to make any decisions.

“We’re still thinking about the wedding, what it’s going to be,” she said. “Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”

However, the former TV anchor did have some ideas about her wedding dress, naming designers like Christian Dior and Valentino as some of her favorites.

Sánchez and Bezos had two engagement parties

Sánchez and Bezos celebrated their impending nuptials with two celebrations. Two months after the businessman got down on one knee, the couple hosted an engagement party on Bezos’ yacht on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The star-studded guest list included Bill Gates , Paula Hurd , Kris Jenner , STAUD founder Sarah Staudinger and Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd.

In November 2023, the pair had another lavish soirée to celebrate their engagement in Los Angeles. Bezos and Sánchez’s bash included a performance by Jewel and a touching speech by the groom-to-be. According to Vogue , guests included Oprah Winfrey , Salma Hayek Pinault , Barbra Streisand , Miranda Kerr , Suki Waterhouse , Robert Pattison and more.

Jeff Bezos, others help raise $300M for a startup building robot brains

Skild AI launched out of stealth mode Tuesday by announcing a $300 million funding round led by Jeff Bezos’ fund and Japan’s Softbank Group that will help the Pittsburgh-based startup build what it calls a “general-purpose brain” for a variety of robots.

The company, founded in May 2023 by Carnegie Mellon University professors Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, says that it has trained its AI model on more data than its competitors, while building a system that could be retrofitted to existing hardware.

“The large-scale model we are building demonstrates unparalleled generalization and emergent capabilities across robots and tasks, providing significant potential for automation within real-world environments,” Pathak said in a statement. “We believe Skild AI represents a step change in how robotics will be scaled, and has the potential to change the entire physical economy.”

Such a robot brain could theoretically empower quadrupeds like Boston Dynamics’ dog “Spot,” and humanoids like Digit, which is designed and trained in the Lawrenceville neighborhood by Agility Robotics, though the company has not yet announced specific partners. The goal is to help robots master the physical world, so they don’t stumble over obstacles, putting humans at risk.

  • Microsoft, Apple will not join OpenAI’s board as regulatory scrutiny grows

Skild AI said its system could be applied to complex household tasks and industrial work. It could also help reduce the cost of robots.

“With general purpose robots that can safely perform any automated task, in any environment, and with any type of embodiment, we can expand the capabilities of robots, democratize their cost, and support the severely understaffed labor market,” Gupta said.

The company, now valued at $1.5 billion, is hiring for several engineering positions in Pittsburgh, according to its website. So far the team includes experts from Meta, Tesla, Nvidia, Amazon and Google, as well as students from Carnegie Mellon University.

Matthew Johnson-Roberson, who oversees CMU’s Robotics Institute, said Skild AI is “founded by visionary experts at the forefront of robotics innovation.”

“I’m eager to witness how their cutting-edge technology will revolutionize industry and continue CMU’s long history in translational research.”

CMU invested in the startup alongside Amazon, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital and others.

Stephanie Zhan, a partner at Sequoia, expressed a “deep conviction” in the team, which she said is ushering in “a monumental shift” in robotics. She compared the moment to the 2022 launch of ChatGPT.

Another investor, Atlassian, said Skild AI’s tech could prepare robots for jobs in hazardous environments and places like hospitals that are short on human staff.

Skild AI said it would use the new funding to improve its AI model while chasing commercial deployment. The long-term goal is to create a form of artificial general intelligence that is as capable as humans and “rooted in the physical world.”

Mark Zuckerberg may have wowed his fans with a badass video of himself hydrofoiling on Independence Day, but Elon Musk certainly doesn't seem impressed.

"May he continue to have fun on his yachts. I prefer to work," Musk wrote in an X post in response to the video .

Zuckerberg went viral on Thursday after he posted a video of himself surfing on a hydrofoil to Facebook and Instagram. In the clip, the Meta CEO can be seen waving an American flag and taking sips from a can of beer, all while dressed to the nines in a tuxedo.

"Happy birthday, America!" Zuckerberg captioned his post.

Zuckerberg isn't the only yacht-owning billionaire that Musk has accused of being a slouch.

In 2021, Musk made a similar remark about his fellow space baron, Jeff Bezos . The SpaceX CEO told the Financial Times in an interview then that Bezos should spend more time on his rocket company, Blue Origin.

"As a friend of mine says, he should spend more time at Blue Origin and less time in the hot tub," Musk told the outlet.

Bezos, it seems, paid no mind to Musk's zinger and has gone on to enjoy some hot yacht summers.

To be sure, Musk is no stranger to yachts.

In July 2022, he was seen lounging on a yacht in Mykonos, Greece, with Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel and his fashion designer wife, Sarah Staudinger.

Haha damn, maybe I should take off my shirt more often … free the nip!! (already back in the factory btw) — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 18, 2022

"Haha damn, maybe I should take off my shirt more often … free the nip!! (already back in the factory btw)," Musk wrote in an X post on July 18, 2022.

That getaway was a rare moment for Musk, who's famously said that he hates taking vacations.

Musk once came close to dying in 2000 when he contracted malaria while vacationing in South Africa.

Musk said the trip, which he took after Peter Thiel ousted him as PayPal CEO, was his first real vacation from work. Musk was booted from PayPal while on his honeymoon with his first wife, Justine Musk, a few months earlier. "In the last 12 years, I only tried to take a week off twice," he said in 2015 . "The first time I took a week off, the Orbital Sciences rocket exploded, and Richard Branson's rocket exploded in that same week."

"The second time I took a week off, my rocket exploded ," Musk said.

"The lesson here is, don't take a week off," he added.
