Alibi 55 Mach 2.0 Special Edition

Introducing Alibi 55.5 Hull#09 - the most refined and distinguished of all its sisterships. This performance catamaran is capable of sailing at windspeed, with square top full batten mainsail, self-tending solent, code 0, and top down furling or sock asymmetrical spinnaker options available. The exterior is built with grace and strength, and the interior with form and function - offering 3+1 or 4 cabin layouts and numerous storage options throughout the boat. Constructed with E-glass hulls and high-grade PVC foam with epoxy resin, and numerous carbon parts for reinforcement, this boat is designed for reliability, without compromising on performance or comfort. In addition, its long ocean capable beam to length ratio make it a perfect cruising catamaran for extended trips away from home.

About this Alibi 55 Mach 2.0 Special Edition

Introducing Alibi 55.5 Hull#09. Available now for the first time and with delivery worldwide in early 2024. Hull #09 of the venerable Alibi 54 line is a pleasant surprise to today’s long term delivery schedules of performance catamarans. This is a brand-new boat complete with all pertinent warranties. Please watch the video for full details.

Performance catamaran aficionados will be familiar with the Alibi 54. For those learning of the brand for the first time here is a brief synopsis. From 2009 to 2018 (7) Alibi 54’s were constructed for discerning owners worldwide. Each differed ever-so-slightly from the previous depending on individual owner’s requirements. In 2017 the previous ownership went out of business. In 2021, the new owner, who is in the High-End Asian Adventure Tourism

Industry, has assembled a world class team. This includes a production manager who previously built hull number 08 for a discerning European family who have both regatta and cruising programs. Hull number 09 (now 55.5') utilizes and has the benefit of top-flight internationally acclaimed designers, engineers, and production management. “09” is about 3⁄4 of the way completed and is financed as an internal project with all timelines and goals being met. As an owner’s choice, several items remain available before expected sea trials early 2024 if requested reasonably soon. A suggested owner option sheet will be forthcoming.

Alibi Hull 09 ticks all the right boxes for an owner desiring a quick and comfortable, well built, daggerboard catamaran. The deck, sub-structure, reinforcements, mast, boom, longeron, crossbeam, and martingale are all constructed in carbon fiber. The hulls are sandwich construction of hi-tech PVC foam and E-glass with epoxy resin. This boat is being built to CE and ISO compatibility and standards. With the e-glass hulls, the boat fits into most catamaran broader insurance programs. Overall estimated weight is 13,400kg making this boat quick and responsive. This is a conservative estimate pending final lightship weight.

Extended cruising on a performance catamaran begs for certain features and amenities. Regatta racing demands certain capabilities. Combining the two exists only in a certain playing field. The Alibi 54 is one of those players.

Features and amenities people are looking for are:

1) Good visibility in a variety of conditions and this is accomplished by a low-profile easy to see over house, raised helms with articulating wheels with side deck and behind the wheel seating.

2) Comfortable external seating such as perch seats forward, bridge deck seating, comfortable cockpit lounges, and large swim platforms.

3) Features for everyday liveaboard including great ventilation, open and airy living spaces, abundance of light and lighting.

4) Storage for each crew and all their activities.

5) Inside and outside food preparation including transom fish and food prep work tables. 6) Room for folding bicycles, paddleboards, scuba gear and more.

Alibi 5409 has these.

Regarding the demanding performance sailor:

1. Outboard asymmetric canted daggerboards.

2. Daggerboards controlled by aft mounted line drivers (with ability to quickly convert to manual operation if needed.

3. Lines led aft for short-handed sailing.

4. Ability to fly a variety of hi-tech sails in a multitude of conditions with a low center of gravity sail plan.

Gear and capability aside, one of the most important qualities will be reliability. Alibi 5409 achieves this through careful selection of industry known, ocean tested equipment and the appropriate implementation of that equipment. Just because a certain new technology makes its way on the scene does not necessarily mean it should be deployed. A balance of 21stcentury tech and simplicity increase the fun to servicing ratio. Wisdom is gained from previous experience and legacy builds. As interesting as they were, dependability of clever yet exotic systems, such as the retracting props, cassette rudders, movable ballast system have been removed for reliability and simplicity on “09”. In lieu of complex propulsion systems the Yanmar 4JH 57HP was chosen for its renown reliability, ease of service and support, and excellent reputation. The dinghy or tender is now located on davits aft for immediate secured deployment. The interior has been tweaked as per owners’ input. The salon and galley optimized for liveaboard. The cockpit design gains from miles and miles underway and months aboard. The transoms on “09” are now slightly extended and the rewards come both in both additional room and added performance.

DESIGN SYNOPSIS & CONSTRUCTION

The Alibi 55.5 Mach 2.0 sports graceful feminine curves in appearance and masculine strength and purpose with its performance. Fast, sporty, and a sailor’s catamaran Alibi 5409 is the most refined of its sisterships. This wind-speed capable performance catamaran has a pleasant proportional look and feel to the design.

The interior combines form and function. A 3+1 or 4-cabin layout allows for owner, VIP guest, kids, and crew quarters. The owner’s cabin is spacious with appropriate storage and privacy. The guest cabin features the same size berth as the owner’s cabin (a queen) and also features ample storage.

alibi catamarans

Alibi 54 53.77ft

Us $2,448,600.

This is an amazing build, with an incredible eye for detail in its structure and layout. This is not a cookie cutter catamaran and has to be seen and sailed to be fully appreciated. Epoxy carbon construction with honeycomb core, a rotating mast, an incredible bowsprit structure that locks in the front beam with the rest of the boat, making for one extremely stiff and powerful platform. The roller furling boom makes this a very simple boat to reef and sail short-handed and keeps your sail in great condition for many years of enjoyment.

This catamaran is using racing yacht technology all over. A great example of this is the use of Halyard Constrictors as soon as you let this constructer go it immediately binds to the rope and completely locks it under load as well as being backed up with traditional jammers. Brilliant inventions, like the dinghy lifting system under the forward trampoline that hoists up from under the bow between the two hulls, locking off on a 4-point safety lock. Not to mention the davits on the back which allow you to lift a dinghy or your water toys such as kayaks. Doubling as submersible platform for recovering divers or swimming off; simple and robust.

Power management of 14 lithium batteries replaced in 2023, boasting 8064 Ah all monitored by a Victron Skyla system, each cell being individually monitored. The new Fischer Panda10kw generator to provide power on the rare occasions the 16 solar panels cant keep up. The 210kw inverters make sure the crew never has to second guess power consumption.

Then there is the boats traditional layout. It has 2 helm stations slightly more inboard than your standard twin helm set up. You have a generous table for dining on the back deck and as you come through the doors you have the nav station starboard side forward and galley to the port side. The starboard hull is for guests and crew with the middle of the hulls. Second heads and shower can be shared with crew in the forward cabin or guests in the aft cabin. Further forward again is a kids bunk room, with wide steps built into the hull. The interior is bright, minimalist, and sleek.

There are too many unique features, equipment, and systems to completely summarise this boat in one page. The build quality of this boat, the inventions, the simple use of modern technology, the fresh new modern layout and the sheer speed of this boat will have you shaking with delight.

This is a special boat that is not to be missed, get in touch with us to arrange a viewing.

Andrew Hodgdon and The Multihull Company have done an extraordinary job facilitating the sale of our catamaran. There were a couple of challenges (geography and timing) that made this sale a little tricky, but, as usual, Andrew was amazing. I’ve been buying and selling cruising boats for over 12 years and Andrew is, without a doubt, the best broker I’ve worked with.

— Mort Orlov

Andrew Hodgdon at TMC-St. Augustine kept us thoroughly informed during the sale of our boat and took the extra steps necessary to complete the deal. His knowledge of the process made a complex deal very easy. Needless to say, we are extremely happy and satisfied with the job that Andrew did.

A shout out to Andrew Holland at the TMC main office, who handled the closing transaction of the sale of our boat. Very professional and thorough. Thank you!!

Alibi unveils fast sailing trimaran concept 116 OneOff

Thailand-based Alibi Catamarans has revealed details of its 35.35 metre trimaran sailing yacht concept, the Alibi 116 OneOff.

Alibi Yachts, led by former trimaran racer Loïc Goepfert, has used its experience from the world of racing trimarans to develop a fast and comfortable cruising trimaran concept, which has a top speed of 30 knots.

Alibi Catamarans has pitched the concept towards superyacht owners looking for a different way to travel. It said the “35 metre sailing multihull, with its renewable energy system, can travel almost for free. Crossing oceans in such a way unlocks new holiday destinations without thinking of delivery costs.”

Particular attention has been paid to the structural importance of the central hull, which takes most of the force, allowing the overall design to be lighter. Other important design elements include the 23 metre beam for stability and the three ultra slim hulls for speed.

The spacious living area provides accommodation for ten guests, as well as a central lounge and dining area. Two king-size cabins are located aft and two bunk-bed cabins forward.

On the lower deck a large master cabin has a brilliant view through large glass door in the transom. This door also provides access to the sea via a swim platform.

The separate crew accommodation, engine room and galley are all located forward of the master suite on the lower deck, meaning the crew can work without disturbing the guests.

Outside, OneOff has a lounge area forward of the glass-roofed saloon, a protected lounge in the main aft cockpit lounge and a separate raised helm station.

The engine room of the Alibi 116 features an efficient hybrid diesel, hydrokinetic generator to provide the necessary power. Smart electronics and sensors provide easier handling for the yacht to be sailed with a limited number of crew.

The yachting industry is seeing an increasing number of trimaran designs and builds, both sail and motor. Other sailing trimaran concepts include the UltraLuxum CXL160 and the 80 metre Dragonship from Pi Yachts .

Alibi catamarans in liquidation

Catamaran Alibi 57

The Alibi Catamaran yard has been placed in judicial liquidation. An economic necessity that does not exclude the construction of new boats in the future.

Briag Merlet

The Thai shipyard put into liquidation

According to several sources close to the case, the Alibi catamaran yard has been placed in judicial liquidation. Contacted by BoatIndustry for confirmation, the site manager did not respond to our requests. The company, which was building top-of-the-range sailing yachts in Thailand, was facing major difficulties. In the absence of a boat order this year, Alibi Catamarans had to stop its activity.

Alibi Catamarans was created in 2007 by Loïc Goepfert, naval architect and engineer with a background in ocean racing, both in navigation and in the design office . Its objective was to build custom catamarans that were ultra-efficient and aesthetically pleasing. In 2008, he set up his shipyard in Bangkok to build the first sailboats.

Logistical and technical difficulties

Efforts had been made in recent months to improve the yard's profitability, in particular by opening a base at Le Canet en Roussillon to finish the boats in France and avoid the additional costs associated with transporting the numerous deck fittings from Europe. Alibi took over the premises of the former XL Catamarans shipyard in February 2017, which were only 5 years old. Loic Goepfert, who met him at the Grande Motte 2017 multihull show, illustrated the situation with the rigging . "We had to import the mast in 3 parts and for insurance reasons, Lorima's technicians had to come to Thailand for assembly. It didn't make sense anymore!"

Other innovative options, such as the annex under the front platform, were difficult to develop and very costly for the site.

Know-how on standby

Staff from the Thai shipyard were transferred to a friendly company that manufactures composite parts for industry and boating. All of Alibi's skills remain operational for the possible construction of a future catamaran.

  • Service Web Design Custom Coding

Alibi Catamarans was a french yacht builder based in Thailand. At that time, this innovation-driven company astound the industry with first-rate product and design and was pursuing a exceptional sale experience.

Loic Goepfert, the owner and managing director, came to us with the need to create for him an interactive spec sheet online that allows customers to see all of the options and how it affects the overall cost. The options are complex, but we managed to don the web a clean and simple interface.

To emphasize the inattentiveness of the brand, the web design needed to provide a superior user experience to stand out from competitors. Studio Twist tailor-made an interactive animation that makes elements move when scrolled.
