Impala 28 (Jensen)

Impala 28 (Jensen) is a 28 ′ 3 ″ / 8.6 m monohull sailboat designed by E. Bjørn Jensen and built by Impala Yachts (DEN) between 1972 and 1980.

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

The bodies of those found in the search for six people missing after the sinking of a luxury yacht during a storm off the coast of Sicily are being recovered from the wreckage. Five bodies have now been brought to shore in the small fishing village of Porticello, around 11 miles from the Sicilian capital of Palermo.

On Thursday, the Italian Coastguard confirmed to the PA news agency that the sixth and final person yet to be found is a woman. Technology tycoon Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy Bloomer, Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo were lost when the Bayesian was hit by a storm and sank at around 5am on Monday.

The bodies of the missing men onboard the luxury yacht, as well as the boat's chef, have now been recovered. These are the details of each of the victims on board.

British technology tycoon Mr Lynch founded software giant Autonomy in 1996 and made his name as one of Britain's most influential entrepreneurs. In June, the 59-year-old was cleared of conducting a massive fraud relating to an 11 billion dollar (£8.64 billion) sale to US company Hewlett Packard.

The boat trip was a celebration of his acquittal. Of the 22 passengers and crew on board, 15 - including Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares - were rescued after escaping onto a lifeboat.

Mr Lynch was born in Ilford, east London, brought up in Essex and was the son of a nurse from Co Tipperary and a fireman from Co Cork who enjoyed childhood summers in Carrick-On-Shannon and Tipperary where he had family. He went to Cambridge University and started his first business while studying for a PhD in signal processing and communications research.

He was made an OBE for services to enterprise in 2006. That same year, he was appointed to the board of the BBC and was later elected to then-prime minister David Cameron's council for science and technology in 2011. David Tabizel, Mr Lynch's Autonomy co-founder, said: "The world has lost a genius. His family have lost a giant of a man."

Mr Lynch was a member of the Create The Change fundraising board, set up by Cancer Research UK, which helped fund the building of the Francis Crick Institute. Chairman Lord John Browne, who described him as "a human being of great ability", said: "Mike Lynch should be remembered as the person who catalysed a breed of deep tech entrepreneurs in the UK. His ideas and his personal vision were a powerful contribution to science and technology in both Britain and globally."

He became a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2008, which paid tribute for his "active role" as a "mentor, donor and former council member". He was an inaugural member of the enterprise committee. On Thursday, the technology industry group TechUK also described him as "a hugely significant and pioneering figure in the UK technology sector".

Jonathan Bloomer

The Morgan Stanley International bank chairman is a prominent businessman who held a number of boardroom roles after an extensive career in financial services. He was the chief executive of global finance group Prudential between 2000 and 2005 and had been chairman of Morgan Stanley International as well as Hiscox and property business SDL. Mr Bloomer was among those to give evidence as a defence witness for Mr Lynch, and media reports suggest the pair were close friends.

Chris Morvillo

Mr Morvillo, 59, a partner at law firm Clifford Chance, represented Mr Lynch during the long-running criminal fraud trial where he was eventually cleared of all charges. His long career included representing corporate and individual clients in white-collar government investigations, related regulatory and civil proceedings, and internal investigations.

Mr Morvillo had previously been a federal prosecutor, working on cases related to the 9/11 attacks and securing the conviction of lawyer Lynne Stewart for assisting terrorism during his time as assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York between 1999 and 2005. A Clifford Chance spokesman said the firm was "in shock and deeply saddened" about the tragedy and its thoughts were with Mr Movillo's relatives.

He added: "Our utmost priority is providing support to the family as well as our colleague Ayla Ronald, who together with her partner, thankfully survived the incident."

Recaldo Thomas

The first body recovered at the scene of the sinking on Monday was that of Canadian-Antiguan national Recaldo Thomas, who was working as a chef on the Bayesian superyacht, the Italian coastguard told Sky News. In a tribute shared on Tuesday, Gareth Williams, a friend of Mr Thomas, told the BBC: "I can talk for everyone that knew him when I say he was a well-loved, kind human being with a calm spirit."

Mr Thomas grew up in Antigua and spent his time there during the off-season, Mr Williams said. Another friend, Eli Fuller, told the outlet Mr Thomas was "friends with everybody", "always positive" and "sought after" in his profession.

Man, 53, medevaced from fishing boat to Honolulu

U.S. COAST GUARD

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 53-year-old man from a commercial fishing boat back to Honolulu after receiving a call for help Monday.

Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a 1:45 p.m. call Monday from Pacific Fishing & Supply crew reporting that a member aboard the 68-foot fishing vessel Autumn was exhibiting stroke-like symptoms.

At the time, Autumn was about 750 miles offshore, and the crew estimated they were six days away from Oahu.

After the duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac, watchstanders directed the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane to meet the Autumn approximately 480 miles offshore of Oahu.

The Harriet Lane reached the Autumn at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, brought the patient aboard, and transported him to Honolulu Harbor, arriving at 6:30 a.m. today.

The man was taken to Queen’s Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services and reported to be in stable condition.

Few days ago one of our writers asked me if we had written about Tame Impala and I realized we've missed that somehow. Luckily, fortune heard my thoughts and they released a brand new cover of Michael Jackson. Yes, The King! "Stranger In Moscow" was one of my favourite tracks when I was at a very young age and I remember staring at the (back then very enormous) TV and the slow-motion rain. It felt mesmerizing just like this re-work.

The Australians did an outstanding job! Loads of reverb and still it feels fairly melancholic just like the original.

We are delighted to announce the Impala European Championship, incorporating the UK and Irish Nationals, next May 25th/26th 2024.

East Down Yacht Club will host the event at their nine acre site on the shores of Strangford Lough.

The weekend also includes the Sonata Open Event competing on the same weekend, an event not to be missed by all Impala and Sonata yachts in 2024. Two days of excellent racing with three races each day and a daily prize giving with chill out BBQ & tunes ashore after racing.

A limited number of travelling bursaries are available, with lift in available on the Lough and mooring for visiting boats.

Horror CCTV footage shows the moment a terrifying storm engulfed a superyacht carrying 22 people before it capsized near Siciily.

A desperate search is continuing for those missing on the 56-metre luxury yacht, named the Bayesian, who could be relying on air pockets to survive.

The boat capsized and sank on Monday (August 19) at around 5am after a horrific storm hit the area, with expert divers continuing their desperate search for those onboard, reports the Mirror.

Authorities confirmed on Monday that one man had tragically died following the incident, while six others currently remain missing.

The vessel, located off the coast of Palermo, Sicily, is believed to be owned by the family of British tycoon Mike Lynch, who is among those yet to be found, along with his 18-year-old daughter Hannah. Fifteen people, including a one-year-old baby, were saved by nearby ship Sir Robert Baden Powell, which was anchored close by.

A new CCTV clip taken from a villa only 200m away from the accident has emerged, and shows the £14million vessel slowly disappearing off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, as it is engulfed by the heavy rain. Lights from the yacht can also be seen in the distance before tragedy strikes.

One witness told how he went to check his cameras after hearing the news of the sinking, according to Giornale Di Sicilia. The owner of the villa said: "In just sixty seconds, you can see the ship disappear. Of about twenty cameras installed in the house, only one was not disturbed by the wind and rain. You can clearly see what is happening. There was nothing that could be done for the boat. It disappeared in a very short time."

Specialist drivers are now frantically fighting their way through blockages in the 50m deep wreck in an effort to find the missing six people. Vincenzo Zagarola, a spokesman for the coast guard, said they believe they may still be inside the yacht, as it sank in just a few minutes.

He said: "We think they are still inside the boat, that is our very hard idea. Our search and rescue activity by sea and air has gone on for around 36 hours. Of course, we do not exclude that they are not inside the boat, but we know the boat sank quickly. We suppose that the six people missing may not have had time to get out of the boat."

It comes as an expert has claimed passengers could still be alive due to air pockets inside the sunken yacht. Nick Sloane, an engineer who worked on the Costa Concordia salvage operation, warned that rescuers are entering a 'critical' 24-hour period to rescue anyone who may have survived.

"They've got a very small window of time to try and find people stuck inside with hopefully an air pocket, and they could be rescued," he explained. "You've got a maximum of two to three days to try to get someone out, so the next 24 hours are critical."
