JUST ENOUGH Enquiry

Martha, Great trip. Amazing how many massive yachts out there. It felt like Just Enough was perfect size for two families and 8-9 of us. The spaces are very nice and comfortable. I think it would get tight with more than 9. For example the aft round dinner table is a fabulous place to have dinner, but it seats nine max. What really made the trip was the captain and crew. Besides being fun and easy they truly provided first class service all the time. That is not easy to do. We have lots of experiences around the world and this level of service was second to none. Thanks for the great recommendation. I would highly recommend it to anyone. M/Y JUST ENOUGH / December 20 – 27 / British Virgin Islands

Guest Review 6/2018 - “Just a quick note to let you know that I just wrapped up the vacation of a lifetime. The boat, the itinerary and certainly the crew were incredible. You cannot imagine how much fun we had together and with the crew. Amazing all around. I am seriously thinking about meeting them in the Caribbean in the Fall. Thank YOU so very much!!!”

“Unbelievable is an understatement, thank you so much for an unforgettable trip! The crew Is amazing, so efficient and joyful. The kindness of everyone will not be forgotten, thank you Ashley for making Just Enough feel just like home. You all work together so well to pull off a flawless trip! We cannot thank you all enough and hope to come back soon!” Charter client July 2019

“We had the best trip ever! Everything was so great, we had so much fun with the crew. The slide was a hit! We are definitely coming back; the food was the best and the crew was the best we have had. We are from New Orleans and used to good food and Terry blew us away! ” – charter client December 2019/ January 2020

“The captain and crew were fabulous. Attentive to our needs always pleasant and very professional. The food was also delicious. I would certainly recommend them to my friends and if we choose to do this again next year would want the same crew and loved the boat. It was just enough.” - Charter client July 2020

Best Charter Yet

“This charter was our best one yet. The boat was kept immaculate and you can tell that the crew takes pride in the boat. Everything was always very neat and tidy which is always a challenge on a boat with a lot of people. Captain Kyle was fantastic and was always up for conversation about what we wanted to do or where we wanted to go and gave his suggestions. The chef….she was fantastic! We are more “simple cuisine” people. She made phenomenal food the entire time and I can assure you that NOBODY went hungry! She quite possibly made the best hamburger and mac and cheese I have ever had in my life for lunch one day when we did a barbeque. Her potstickers were outstanding, the fish was great, the lamb and duck were my favorite and I don’t even really like either one of those things! We were really there to relax after working long hours for months. I think they caught onto that very quickly! It’s really rare to see a crew who works so well together and they all really did. It was clear they all had specific jobs to do, but the amount of camaraderie and teamwork that I saw on this boat was a step above all others. To us, they were very much in sync, professional, and friendly. They made us feel comfortable from the moment we stepped aboard. All in all it was just a fantastic time and we were able to relax, eat too much, drink too much, and get some much needed Vitamin D. Thank you again for finding this boat for us at the last minute. It was phenomenal.” - Charter client December 2020

TESTIMONIAL FROM SATISFIED GUESTS

Great trip. M/Y JUST ENOUGH / December 20 – 27 2016/ BVI

ALL ABOUT THE YACHT

It’s rare to find a large, custom-built luxury yacht charter vessel, but motor yacht JUST ENOUGH is indeed a rare find.   This 140ft yacht was built in 2012, with the specific purpose of creating a comfortable vessel for family adventures at sea. Once onboard, experienced charter guests will find all of the creature comforts they expect on a luxury yacht, along with a full inventory of watersports toys.   In fact, to name the yacht JUST ENOUGH is a bit misleading – with an inventory that includes a water slide, spa pool and a 32′  center-console tender for toying wakeboards and other toys, and amenities such as a spa and stabilizers to keep the yacht comfortable in rough seas, a better name would be, “MORE THAN ENOUGH.”

ARCHITECTURE

Spacious open-style architecture on superyacht JUST ENOUGH is evident throughout the vessel’s interior. Her full-beam salon features a comfortable sofa lounge and flows into the forward formal dining area.  A convenient day head (small bathroom) can be accessed on this level, as well as the sky lounge.

The sky lounge is located on the bridge deck and offers a quiet, interior space for entertainment and relaxation.  Skylounge amenities include a full wet bar and game table. Immediately aft of the lounge is an open air space, suitable for dining all Aperto.

Above the bridge deck is the open-air sundeck.  This is the ultimate area to enjoy the yachting lifestyle.  Here, guests can work on their suntans reclined on a chaise lounge, gather around the wet bar to tell stories of their superyacht experience.  After a day of watersports, some guests might prefer the soothing warmth of the on deck Jacuzzi tub.  Note – in addition to the ondeck hot tub, the yacht also features a Dermalife Hydrofusion Spa, with infrared sauna, steam, and vibration, plus chroma and aromatherapy.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations for ten to eleven guests include a Master stateroom, positioned forward on the main deck.  This cabin features a King-sized bed, desk/vanity, and a small seating area. The ensuite bath is finished in Italian marble and includes a Jacuzzi tub, large shower, his-and-hers sinks and toilet, and bidet.

Four guest staterooms are located belowdeck.  Two guest staterooms are positioned amidships, one with a King berth and the other, a Twin cabin with an additional Pullman berth.  Two guest staterooms, each with Queen beds are located aft.  All guest stateroom have ensuite baths with Jacuzzi-style tubs and integrated showers. Mini refrigerators are installed in each guest room.

Hot on the trail of 56 superyachts owned by Russian oligarchs and subject to seizure

  • Published: Mar. 06, 2022, 2:04 p.m.

French authorities have seized the yacht Amore Vero linked to Igor Sechin, a Putin ally who runs Russian oil giant Rosneft, as part of EU sanctions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The boat arrived in La Ciotat on Jan. 3 for repairs and was slated to stay until April 1 and was seized to prevent an attempted departure. (AP Photo/Bishr Eltoni) AP

  • The Associated Press

The massive superyacht Dilbar stretches one-and-a-half football fields in length, about as long as a World War I dreadnought. It boasts two helipads, berths for more than 130 people and a 25-meter swimming pool long enough to accommodate another whole superyacht.

Dilbar was launched in 2016 at a reported cost of more than $648 million. Five years on, its purported owner, the Kremlin-aligned Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, was already dissatisfied and sent the vessel to a German shipyard last fall for a retrofit reportedly costing another couple hundred million dollars.

That’s where she lay in drydock on Thursday when the United States and European Union announced economic sanctions against Usmanov — a metals magnate and early investor in Facebook — over his ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.

“We are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments, your private jets,” President Joe Biden said during his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, addressing the oligarchs. “We are coming for your ill-begotten gains.”

But actually seizing the behemoth boats could prove challenging. Russian billionaires have had decades to shield their money and assets in the West from governments that might try to tax or seize them.

Several media outlets reported Wednesday that German authorities had impounded Dilbar. But a spokeswoman for Hamburg state’s economy ministry told The Associated Press no such action had yet been taken because it had been unable to establish ownership of the yacht, which is named for Usmanov’s mother.

Dilbar is flagged in the Cayman Islands and registered to a holding company in Malta, two secretive banking havens where the global ultra-rich often park their wealth.

Still, in the industry that caters to the exclusive club of billionaires and centimillionaires that can afford to buy, crew and maintain superyachts, it is often an open secret who owns what.

Working with the U.K.-based yacht valuation firm VesselsValue, the AP compiled a list of 56 superyachts — generally defined as luxury vessels exceeding 79 feet in length — believed to be owned by a few dozen Kremlin-aligned oligarchs, seaborne assets with a combined market value estimated at more than $5.4 billion.

The AP then used two online services — VesselFinder and MarineTraffic — to plot the last known locations of the yachts as relayed by their onboard tracking beacons.

While many are still anchored at or near sun-splashed playgrounds in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, more than a dozen were underway to or had already arrived in remote ports in small nations such as the Maldives and Montenegro, potentially beyond the reach of Western sanctions. Three are moored in Dubai, where many wealthy Russians have vacation homes.

Another three had gone dark, their transponders last pinging just outside the Bosporus in Turkey — gateway to the Black Sea and the southern Russian ports of Sochi and Novorossiysk.

Graceful, a German-built Russian-flagged superyacht believed to belong to Putin, left a repair yard in Hamburg on Feb. 7, two weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine. It is now moored in the Russian Baltic port of Kaliningrad, beyond the reach of Western sanctions imposed against him this past week.

Some Russian oligarchs appear to have not gotten the memo to move their superyachts, despite weeks of public warnings of Putin’s planned invasion.

French authorities seized the superyacht Amore Vero on Thursday in the Mediterranean resort town of La Ciotat. The boat is believed to belong to Igor Sechin, a Putin ally who runs Russian oil giant Rosneft, which has been on the U.S. sanctions list since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

The French Finance Ministry said in a statement that customs authorities boarded the 289-foot Amore Vero and discovered its crew was preparing for an urgent departure, even though planned repair work wasn’t finished. The $120 million boat is registered to a company that lists Sechin as its primary shareholder.

On Saturday, Italian financial police in the port of San Remo seized the 132-foot superyacht Lena, which is flagged in the British Virgin Islands. Authorities said the boat belongs to Gennady Timchenko, an oligarch close to Putin and among those sanctioned by the European Union. With an estimated net worth of $16.2 billion, Timchenko is the founder of the Volga Group, which specializes in investments in energy, transport and infrastructure assets.

The 213-foot Lady M was also seized by the Italians while moored in the Riviera port town of Imperia. In a tweet announcing the seizure on Friday, a spokesman for Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said the comparatively modest $27 million vessel was the property of sanctioned steel baron Alexei Mordashov, listed as Russia’s wealthiest man with a fortune of about $30 billion.

But Mordashov’s upsized yacht, the 464-foot Nord, was safely at anchor on Friday in the Seychelles, a tropical island chain in the Indian Ocean not under the jurisdiction of U.S. or EU sanctions. Among the world’s biggest superyachts, Nord has a market value of $500 million.

Since Friday, Italy has seized $156 million in luxury yachts and villas in some of its most picturesque destinations, including Sardinia, the Ligurian coast and Lake Como.

Most of the Russians on the annual Forbes list of billionaires have not yet been sanctioned by the United States and its allies, and their superyachts are still cruising the world’s oceans.

The evolution of oligarch yachts goes back to the tumultuous decade after the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, as state oil and metals industries were sold off at rock-bottom prices, often to politically connected Russian businessmen and bankers who had provided loans to the new Russian state in exchange for the shares.

Russia’s nouveau riche began buying luxury yachts similar in size and expense to those owned by Silicon Valley billionaires, heads of state and royalty. It’s a key marker of status in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and size matters.

“No self-respecting Russian oligarch would be without a superyacht,” said William Browder, a U.S.-born and now London-based financier who worked in Moscow for years before becoming one of the Putin regime’s most vocal foreign critics. “It’s part of the rite of passage to being an oligarch. It’s just a prerequisite.”

As their fortunes ballooned, there was something of an arms race among the oligarchs, with the richest among them accumulating personal fleets of ever more lavish boats.

For example, Russian metals and petroleum magnate Roman Abramovich is believed to have bought or built at least seven of the world’s largest yachts, some of which he has since sold off to other oligarchs.

In 2010, Abramovich launched the Bermuda-flagged Eclipse, which at 533 feet was at the time the world’s longest superyacht. Features include a wood-burning firepit and swimming pool that transforms into a dance floor. Eclipse also boasts its own helicopter hangar and an undersea bay that reportedly holds a mini-sub.

Dennis Cauiser, a superyacht analyst with VesselsFinder, said oligarch boats often include secret security measures worthy of a Bond villain, including underwater escape hatches, bulletproof windows and armored panic rooms.

“Eclipse is equipped with all sorts of special features, including missile launchers and self-defense systems on board,” Cauiser said. “It has a secret submarine evacuation area and things like that.”

Eclipse was soon eclipsed by Azzam, purportedly owned by the emir of Abu Dhabi, which claimed the title of longest yacht when it was launched in 2013. Three years after that, Usmanov launched Dilbar, which replaced another slightly smaller yacht by the same name. The new Dilbar is the world’s largest yacht by volume.

Abramovich, whose fortune is estimated at $12.4 billion, fired back last year by launching Solaris. While not as long as Eclipse or as big as Dilbar, the $600 million Bermuda-flagged boat is possibly even more luxurious. Eight stories tall, Solaris features a sleek palisade of broad teak-covered decks suitable for hosting a horde of well-heeled partygoers.

But no boat is top dog for long. At least 20 superyachts are reported to be under construction in various Northern European shipyards, including a $500 million superyacht being built for the American billionaire Jeff Bezos.

“It’s about ego,” Cauiser said. “They all want to have the best, the longest, the most valuable, the newest, the most luxurious.”

But, he added, the escalating U.S. and EU sanctions on Putin-aligned oligarchs and Russian banks have sent a chill through the industry, with boatbuilders and staff worried they won’t be paid. It can cost upwards of $50 million a year to crew, fuel and maintain a superyacht.

The crash of the ruble and the tanking of Moscow stock market have depleted the fortunes of Russia’s elite, with several people dropping off the list of Forbes billionaires last week. Cauiser said he expects some oligarch superyachts will soon quietly be listed by brokers at fire-sale prices.

The 237-foot Stella Maris, which was seen by an AP journalist docked this past week in Nice, France, was believed to be owned by Rashid Sardarov, a Russian billionaire oil and gas magnate. After publication of an earlier version of this story, AP was contacted Sunday by yacht broker Joan Plana Palao, who said his company represents a U.S. citizen from California who purchased the Stella Maris last month. He declined to disclose the name of the buyer or the person from whom the boat had been purchased.

On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a new round of sanctions that included a press release touting Usmanov’s close ties to Putin and photos of Dilbar and the oligarch’s private jet, a custom-built 209-foot Airbus A340-300 passenger liner. Treasury said Usmanov’s aircraft is believed to have cost up to $500 million and is named Bourkhan, after his father.

Usmanov, whose fortune has recently shrunk to about $17 billion, criticized the sanctions.

The cryptopunk drama: is ‘code is law’ cracking under pressure.

The recent saga surrounding the sale of CryptoPunk #2386—a coveted NFT APENFT valued at 10 ETH Ethereum (roughly $23,500)—has reignited the debate over the viability of the "code is law" philosophy in decentralized finance (DeFi). In this case, a buyer took advantage of the characteristics of smart contracts and blockchain-powered transactions to purchase the NFT for a fraction of its perceived market value. The transaction, executed automatically by blockchain code, has been described by some as opportunistic, while others have called it a "heist" or "theft." This high-profile incident has left many questioning whether the strict, code-driven governance model that defines DeFi is truly sustainable in the long term—or whether it needs reevaluation.

At its core, the “code is law” philosophy suggests that smart contracts—self-executing contracts written into blockchain code—should dictate transactions and operations without human interference. Once a smart contract is deployed, the terms are set in stone. The automation of governance and transactions is seen as a way to reduce costs, eliminate intermediaries, and ensure a transparent, trustless system. However, while this model promises efficiency and autonomy, the recent CryptoPunk incident highlights the cracks in this seemingly flawless system.

The Case of CryptoPunk #2386

According to reports, CryptoPunk #2386, originally worth approximately 1.5 million dollars , was sold for a fraction of its value on the open market. Despite the smart contract enabling the transaction, the rightful owner of the NFT were left scrambling to recover their asset. Indeed, the blockchain, as expected, followed its pre-programmed rules, but that meant little for the original owners who had their asset taken away by a skillful and an opportunistic actor.

The incident exposes a critical limitation of the “code is law” doctrine: when unforeseen events like theft, fraud, manipulation, opportunistic exploitation, or even just taking advantage of loopholes occur, the code alone cannot ensure a just outcome. This reality raises the question: is code truly the best arbiter in such complex situations?

The Limits of Automation

The allure of the “code is law” philosophy lies in its promise to automate trust. Smart contracts are designed to execute based solely on predefined conditions. If X happens, Y follows. There’s no need for middlemen or human discretion—at least in theory. But as we’ve seen with the CryptoPunk case and other recent examples, this rigidity can lead to unfair or undesirable outcomes.

For instance, in traditional finance or legal systems, contracts can be contested, altered, or interpreted by courts to ensure fairness. Legal systems allow for nuance, context, and human judgment. In contrast, smart contracts are binary; they don’t account for the messy, unpredictable nature of human behavior or external factors. This makes them susceptible to exploitation by those who know how to manipulate the code, as could be argued was the case with CryptoPunk #2386.

But it’s not just NFTs that are affected. In my academic writings, I explore how the “code is law” mentality has also led to difficulties in handling financial distress in decentralized systems. The failures, losses, or disagreements in DeFi entities and platforms like Unisawp, or some decentralized autonomous organizations have shown that when internal conflicts arise or systems faces disruption, code alone may not be enough to protect stakeholders or resolve disputes.

Automation has its limitations.

The Case for Flexibility

Despite the limitations exposed by incidents like the recent CryptoPunk saga, proponents of “code is law” argue that the very immutability of smart contracts is their greatest strength. They claim that automation reduces the potential for human error or corruption. After all, if the code governs transactions and governance, there’s no need to trust fallible human intermediaries.

But this viewpoint overlooks a crucial question: what happens when the code itself fails, or when actors exploit loopholes in the system? The rigid application of “code is law” can leave victims without recourse, as the CryptoPunk case shows. Human discretion and flexibility are often required to resolve disputes and failures fairly and ethically. Courts, legal systems, and even mediators play important roles in traditional financial systems, ensuring that justice is done when things go awry. DeFi and NFTs, driven by code, currently lack some of these safety nets. As this case showcases, there is a need for a balance between automation and oversight, between code and law. Without some level of flexibility, we risk creating a financial system where justice is sacrificed for efficiency.

The Regulatory Horizon

As DeFi continues to expand and decentralized systems grow more complex, regulators and lawmakers are beginning to take notice. The rise of high-profile incidents like the CryptoPunk #2386 case shows that it may be time to reevaluate the “code is law” mentality. Should lawmakers intervene to introduce protections and dispute resolution mechanisms in decentralized systems? Is it time to blend the best of both worlds—allowing smart contracts to automate processes while also providing legal recourse for when things go wrong?

It’s a question that regulators are beginning to explore. In the U.S., recent court decisions have started to address which legal protections could and should be offered to decentralized entities and the relevant stakeholders. Indeed, courts are recognizing that while decentralized systems may operate on code, they cannot exist entirely outside the bounds of legal accountability. As this understanding deepens, lawmakers will need to focus on regulating the DeFi space in a way that balances the autonomy of smart contracts with the need for human oversight. Striking this balance is critical to ensuring that the promise of DeFi is not overshadowed by its risks. This brings us to a broader question: can the "code is law" doctrine survive the complexities of real-world application? Should we continue to trust that smart contracts alone are enough to govern decentralized systems, or is there a growing recognition of the need for greater flexibility and legal oversight?

Ultimately, the CryptoPunk #2386 case—and others like it—suggests that it’s time for lawmakers, regulators, and the DeFi community to fully explore the limitations of "code is law." The technology is powerful, but without human discretion and legal recourse, it leaves parties vulnerable. The future of DeFi may depend on finding a middle ground between the autonomy of code and the protection of law.

Greenberg and Joy say their goal was to disrupt the tender segment with an out-of-the-box concept that could cater to the most demanding clients in the yachting industry. The resulting design, which is kind of like a cross between a support vessel, a floating garage, and a tender, offers seafarers an exciting new way to store and transport luxury vehicles. The studio says each unit will be fully bespoke, ensuring owners can create the perfect home for their fine automobiles.

Falcon Shuttle

It is not uncommon for catamarans to serve as shadow vessels to larger, superyachts. Multihulls are generally more stable than monohulls because their two hulls provide a wide and sturdy base. They offer a large amount of real estate onboard, too. Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates reportedly owned a 224-foot support cat , for example. GreenJoy didn’t share any details regarding the shuttle’s length or volume but the fact it can comfortably accommodate a car means that it must be at least 20 feet or more. That is quite a bit smaller than Bill’s but should provide enough space for your favorite ride.

The yard didn’t share any information in terms of propulsion, either. Falcon offers tenders with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, so perhaps buyers could opt for a sustainable shuttle that burns less fuel than traditional gas-guzzling runabouts.

GreenJoy will present the Falcon Shuttle at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, which is set to take place in the iconic Port Hercules from September 25 to 28.
