New Build & Naval Architecture with respect to Luxury Yacht SUN ARK

The yacht's general design work came from Frank Mulder and Luiz De Basto Designs. The technical naval architecture plans are the creation of Frank Mulder. Motor Yacht SUN ARK received her stylish interior designing from the interior design company of Luiz De Basto Designs / Art-Line Interiors (Original). Built by Heesen Yachts this yacht was fabricated in the known yacht building country the Netherlands. She was successfully launched in Oss in 1995 before being handed over to the owner. A moderate area is manifested with a maximum beam (width) of 7.16 metres / 23.5 ft. With a 1.58m (5.2ft) draught (maximum depth) she is shallow. The material composite was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure over the hull is created from composite. Over the deck of SUN ARK she is 35.36 (116 ft) in length. In 2000 further refitting and modernisation was also performed.

This yacht utilises twin robust MTU main engine(s) and can find a exalting maximum speed underway of approximately 54 knots. The main engine of the ship creates 3480 horse power (or 2561 kilowatts). Her total HP is 9520 HP and her total Kilowatts are 7005. Her propulsion units are tripple water jets (kamewa). As for the yacht’s stabalisers she uses Vosper. As for thrusters she utilises Vosper. The boat’s magnificent cruise speed is 42 knots which provides a range of 2000.

Heesen superyacht Sun Ark offered for sale

The 36.8 metre fast motor yacht Sun Ark has been listed for sale by Jim Wallace at Camper & Nicholsons.

Construction in GRP initially commenced at the Norship yard in Norway before she was taken to the Heesen yard in Holland for completion and was delivered in 1995 with refits and upgrades in 2004 and 2014. A modern, light interior has accommodation for eight guests in four cabins consisting of a full beam master suite, two doubles with queen sized beds and a twin, all with full en suite facilities.

The saloon has a comfortable large sofa and chairs on the starboard side and a wet bar to port, all surrounded by oversized windows allowing in plenty of natural light. There is a separate formal dining area further forward. She has ample deck space with an aft deck offering shaded al fresco dining and entertainment. The expansive sun deck has all the facilities for al fresco dining including a wet bar, spa pool, barbecue and two large sun pads. Twin 3,500hp MTU engines give her a cruising speed of 35 knots.

"SUN ARK" comfortably sleeps eight owners and guests in four luxurious suites, each with private en-suite baths. Crew accommodations are for up to six in three cabin areas and completely separated from the owner and guest suites. The owner's suite is the full width of the vessel, amidships and forward of the engine room and all of the other guest suites. The owners suite features a centerline king size "island" bed, with two drawers underneath, a built in mirrored glass vanity, four oversized port lights, "his" and "hers," built in side tables, built in settee sofa, built in key safe, four large side by side closets and, direct and indirect lighting. Two completely separate air conditioning controls. There is also a private adjoining bath en-suite featuring a large Jacuzzi hot tub with shower all in gold plating, a separate stall shower with built in seat, two sinks with gold fixtures and fittings, as well as a toilet and bidet in a separate room. The bath features magnificent blue onyx, rare Myrtle Burle wood from Asia, all in a high gloss lacquer finish. The comfortable soft goods are in earth tones. A 42" plasma Television with Hughes satellite television system and Pioneer XV-DV55 DVD player, a Kenwood AM/FM CD player and a built in refrigerator round out the owner's luxurious amenities. Moving aft through a semi circular companionway are three guest suites all finished to a high standard of finish and magnificently appointed. Two of the guest suites feature queen sized "island" walk around beds. One has two, twin sized, lower berths and each has a full size adjoining bath "ensuite" with a full size shower, toilet, lighted vanity and sink. Each stateroom also has two large port lights (plus one in each bath), large wardrobe closets, lighted vanities, storage cabinets and separate entertainment systems including flat screen TV'S, AM/ FM/CD Stereos, DVD/ VCR players and direct and indirect lighting. All of the guest accommodations are finished with the very rare Myrtle Burle wood, custom wool carpet and beautiful fabrics throughout. Up from the owner & guest accommodations via a gradual built in, spiral stair case is a huge, full width, main salon and this same stairway also continues to the vessels Sky Lounge on the third level. The main salon of "SUN ARK" has an open spacious feeling. There are over-sized picture windows, a large full-sized built- in granite bar with four custom bar stools, a writing desk with book shelves and file cabinets, a large, super stuffed, sofa with custom glass cocktail table. The wool wall-to-wall carpet compliments the highly finished Asian burle wood (all the same tree), glove beige leather bar stools and bar trim, fabric curtains and black out shades in soft earth tones. Forward of the main salon is a semi-private dining salon with a custom circular dining table with seating for 8. The galley is conveniently located forward of the dining salon which has buffet counters and built in china and crystal storage cabinets. Forward is a full size on deck powder room with marble floors, imported from Italy. In the aft of the main salon by the writing desk is a solid marble compass floor design and a double wide Stainless Steel and glass door side opening to the huge open aft deck area. The aft salon is fully covered and features new teak decks (2003), a large solid teak dining table with seating for eight. The wet bar is equipped with a large refrigerator and ample storage. The aft deck is has a large euro-transom that allows easy access to water sports. Up the custom circular stairways (inside the yacht or outside from the aft deck) one can visit the third deck, SKYLOUNGE, and the upper aft deck bridge. The forward area of the bridge deck has a state of the art high-speed helm control station. The helm is all black with wrap around visibility and controls. There is a high TEC command helm, a matching co-pilot pedestal seat, (both with electric controls and the Captain's having a built-in electronic tiller). For the owner and guests there is a U shaped built-in settee with a matching built-in table all in burlewood and leather. Aft of the bridge, in the same room, is a SKYLOUNGE also with built-in seating high/low table, a writing/computer desk, two swiveling occasional chairs, a complete entertainment system including a pop up (electric) 42" plasma TV and a full size private bathroom. Outside the glass doors is the entertainment area. First there is a large built-in wet bar with three custom built swivel chairs. Across is a "U" shaped settee which seats eight and features a dining table is a new built-in barbeque. To round out the area is a huge built-in sun pad with built-in Jacuzzi hot tub and new teak decks. Unlike all other Norship/Heesen yachts "SUN ARK" has an extended bridge deck making this area over 35% larger than all other luxury high-speed yachts of its size.

10. Sun Ark

Another performance yacht from Heesen, Sun Ark (originally Bonita) was also designed by Frank Mulder and launched in 1995. The 36.7 meter vessel can reach speeds of 54 knots using its triple waterjets. She is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system that reduces roll motion and results in a much smoother cruising experience than some of the other super-fast yachts. She also has bow thrusters to make her more maneuverable at low speeds. She has accommodation for 8 guests in 4 suites and 5 crew members.

Originally named AA Absolute, she was built in 1995 by Heesen Yachts in Holland, for the Sultan of Brunei and was designed by Frank Mulder. Her maximum speed is 54 knots with a cruising speed of 30 knots. The 36.58 m yacht had a total refurbishment in 2007 and another refit in 2012. She can accommodate up to 9 guests with 7 crew in her spacious and luxurious interior.

The flagship of the Mangusta 108 series built by Overmarine and designed by Andrea Bacigalupo and Stefano Righini, Nobody was launched in 2001. She was powered by two Lycoming gas turbines combined with waterjets, which generate 8,770hp and give her a top speed of 55 knots which has been compared with the sound of an aircraft taking off. The 33.5 m vessel has luxurious accommodation for 9 guests and 5 crew.

This ultra-lightweight, high speed yacht was built in 2007 by the New Zealand shipyard McMullen & Wing, constructed in carbon-fibre using the Vacuum Infusion Process and was built to withstand the high loadings of up to 2.2G while travelling at her maximum speed of 57 knots and cruising at 30 knots. Measuring 37.8 m, she is powered by triple waterjet propulsion and can accommodate eight guests. Every component of the yacht was critically analysed to save weight, with titanium used where possible for deck fittings and hand rails and light weight veneered foam panels for interior joinery. It was the state of the art vessel at that time, with impressive navigation and communication systems and an interior that was both streamlined and bright, with the use of lighter woods and yellow, tan and blue leather. She was the winner of the “Best Power Yacht, 24-40 m” category at the 2008 International Superyacht Society Design and Leadership Awards.

6. Brave Challenger

This 31m yacht was originally named Mercury and was built in 1958 by Vosper for the Greek shipping tycoon Stavros Niarchos. She was launched in 1960 with the potential for a maximum speed of 60 knots and an exhilarating cruising speed of 44 knots, making her the fastest yacht in the world at that time. She has three gas turbines combined with surface drives generating 13,620hp and also two conventional engines which give her easier manoeuvrability at low speeds. She has accommodation for 10 passengers and 6 crew. Her classic lines with mahogany /aluminium frames and predominantly aluminium superstructure have evolved during a series of refits.

5. 118 Wally Power

Probably the most distinctive and one of the fastest motor yachts in the world, Wally Power is a 36m luxury craft with a maximum speed of 60 knots. Powered by three gas turbine engines producing 17,000hp, its striking vertical bow and narrow, angular hull, help it to cut through the water with incredible stability and control. She actually went through water tank and wind tunnel testing at a Ferrari facility in Maranello, Italy. Constructed and owned by the Kondakji family, the deck, cockpit, navigation, dining and saloon areas have been designed as one continuous element and there is a 360-degree view from the dining area. The boat’s finish is metallic dark green, which changes reflections and colour depending on the light and the landscape. It is easy to see why she won the Millennium Yacht Design Award for the “Layout of the Third Millennium” and is worth a cool $33 million.

4. Gentry Eagle

Designed and built in 1988 by the late Tom Gentry, who set nearly every powerboat record in existence, the 34.1m, 11,500 hp Gentry Eagle set a record time of 62 hours and 7 minutes in 1989, to cross the Atlantic, winning the coveted Blue Riband. Her top speed in racing configuration was a staggering 69.6 knots. She was relaunched as a high class motor-yacht in 1992 by adding lavish features without losing out on her power. She is now capable of speeds of over 63 knots and her sleek, streamlined exterior and luxurious interior, would not be out of place in a James Bond film. The helm boasts seven black leather Recaro racing seats and a spiral staircase leads below deck to 2 formal staterooms with 2 full baths. The décor includes exotic hardwoods and custom burnished straw wall coverings.

3. Alamshar (Or is it?)

Built by Devonport (now managed by Babcock Marine), in the UK and measuring 50m, she was developed to incorporate the very latest gas turbines, a unique propulsion system which has so far not been used on any other yachts. She was built under a veil of secrecy specifically to break the speed record. The 6 gas turbines and 3 water jets were supposed to give her the capability of speeds up to 65 knots. That was the plan; but on taking delivery of the boat, its billionaire owner, the Aga Khan, expressed massive disappointment in the boat. Named after one of the owner’s racehorses, the Alamshar only managed an undistinguished 30 knots in its sea trials off Plymouth, which could lead to a major legal battle against the dockyard that built her. This was not the only problem the builders have faced; last year the turbine blades in three of its engines, burnt out.

Built at the Izar shipyard for King Juan Carlos of Spain and previously known as Fortuna, she held the title of the fastest yacht in the world in 2000, when she reached a speed of 68 knots. She has a length of 41.5 m and is propelled by three Rolls Royce gas turbines and two MAN diesel engines. Eight guests can be accommodated in a four stateroom layout including a luxurious master suite. The interior is in gloss sycamore wood with stitched tan leather detailing and equipped with a 46 inch television/entertainment center and a formal dining area. For anyone out there with a few million euros to spare she is for sale at the present time at a price that has been reduced from 10 million euros to 8.25 million. She is bullet proof too!

1. World is not Enough

The only yacht to have reached a speed of 70 knots, with a cruising speed of 50 knots, she was built in 2004 by Millennium Super Yachts, a company set up in 1998 and aiming to build the fastest and most beautiful yachts in the world. She is the brainchild of John Staluppi and John Rosatti and is driven by two Paxman diesel engines and two Lycoming gas turbines, incorporating triple waterjets, which can produce 20,600 hp. With a length of 42.4 m, one would expect her to be stripped-down in order to achieve her speed; the typical speed of a boat of her size being between 20 – 25 knots. Her interior is equally impressive, accommodating 10 guests in luxurious comfort, including an in-deck pool and state of the art audio-visual system. The aluminium superstructure gives an aerodynamic shape and stability even at top speeds, with minimum noise level or vibration and a shape that will cut through the water effortlessly, even in the roughest conditions.

THE FAMILY of missing Brit tycoon Mike Lynch's ex-colleague and co-defendant have paid tribute to him after he died in a car crash.

They described him as a “much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend” after he died in Cambridgeshire on Sunday .

Chamberlain's son Teddy posted a touching tribute to his father on running app Strava.

The heartbroken son said: "We are planning to complete this run for dad, if any of you would like to pay tribute and run it with us I will keep you updated.

"I'm sure we will make a post about the day and time at a later date. He was such an incredible man and the pain we feel is unimaginable."  

Chamberlain was flown to hospital after he was hit by the car in the village of Stretham, Cambs, on Saturday.

Chamberlain was enjoying one of his regular jogs when he crossed the A1123 Newmarket Road near a humpback bridge over a river and was hit by a car.

It's understood his life support was switched off the next day.

The woman has not been charged and sources say there is nothing suspicious about the death, the Daily Mail reported.

Chamberlain's Strava account showed his activity ending near Gravel Farm Self-Catering Cottages.

A woman at Gravel Farm Self-Catering Cottages told the newspaper: "I saw the police arrive and the air ambulance arrive but I didn't see anything else." 

He worked as vice president of finance at Lynch's former company Autonomy and faced the same US charges of fraud and conspiracy as his former boss.

They were accused of scheming to inflate the company’s value before it was sold but both were acquitted of all charges by a jury in San Francisco in June.

Lynch, 59, is one of six people missing after a superyacht he was on with his family capsized and sank on Monday off the coast of Siciliy.

He was celebrating with his family, friends and lawyers onboard the £14million Bayesian when it capsized around 5am on Monday.

A source told The Telegraph yesterday: “Our dear client and friend Steve Chamberlain was fatally struck by a car on Saturday while out running.

“He was a courageous man with unparalleled integrity, and we deeply miss him.  He fought successfully to clear his good name, which lives on through his wonderful family.”

Today in a statement released by Cambridgeshire police, his family said: “Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend.

“He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.

"He made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

"He will be deeply missed but forever in the hearts of his loved ones.”

The keen runner took part in a 100km continuous challenge three years ago.

Tech tycoon Lynch, dubbed "Britain's Bill Gates", was one of 22 people sailing onboard a £166,000 a week vessel, in the port of Porticello, Sicily when Chamberlain died.

THE BAYESIAN superyacht was hosting a lavish party for 12 guests, with 10 crew also onboard.

After 15 people were rescued from the water on Monday, six people remain missing and one has been found dead.

Italian authorities said the man recovered near the yacht wreckage was the chef working onboard.

Four of the missing are British and two are American.

Mike Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18, are among the four Brits lost at sea.

International chairman of bank giant Morgan Stanley, Brit Jonathan Bloomer, 70, is also missing along with his wife Judy.

As is top New York lawyer Chris Morvillo, a solicitor at major firm Clifford Chance who worked for Mike Lynch, and his wife Neda.

Tech magnate missing after luxury superyacht sinks off Sicily in 'violent storm'

A British tech magnate and several other people are missing after a luxury superyacht sank near Sicily’s main city, Palermo, during a violent storm, Italian officials and sources familiar with the matter told CNBC . At least one person was killed.

Mike Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was not among those rescued, said the sources, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation. They added that Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, had been plucked from the waters off the Italian island.

Lynch was among six people who were unaccounted for, The Associated Press quoted Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency as saying. “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said. Cocina also confirmed that Bacares had survived.

Italy's coast guard said in a statement that the 184-foot sailboat, named the Bayesian, sank “due to a violent storm” off Palermo at around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET) with 22 people on board. Fifteen people were rescued, and six passengers were missing, it said.

American, British and Canadian citizens were among the missing, the statement said. The coast guard said in later statement that the ship’s cook had died. It did not give the cook's nationality.  

Karsten Borner, the captain of a ship that rescued the survivors, told reporters that there was a “strong hurricane gust, and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position,” according to Reuters.

He added that they had “watched the ship behind us not to touch them and we managed to keep the ship in position.” After the storm was over, he said, “we noticed that the ship behind us was gone.”

“Fifteen people inside. Four people were injured, three heavily injured, and we brought them to our ship, he said. “Then we communicated with the coast guard, and after some time, the coast guard came and later picked up injured people.”

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Emsley, 35, told the Italian news agency ANSA that she had momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but managed to retrieve her and hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were pulled to safety.

“I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tight, close to me, while the sea was stormy,” she said. “Many were screaming. Luckily, the lifeboat inflated, and 11 of us managed to get on it.”

The City Council of Bagheria said in a statement that a child of that age was being treated at a children’s hospital. It said that seven adults were taken to the emergency room but that “it seems that none are in serious conditions.” 

Lynch, 59, the missing tech entrepreneur, founded the enterprise software firm Autonomy and became the target of a protracted legal battle with Hewlett-Packard after the U.S. tech giant accused him of inflating the company’s value in an $11 billion sale. Extradited from Britain to the U.S. last year to stand trial, he was acquitted of fraud after a three-month trial.

Italy’s national fire department said in a statement that “divers, a motorboat and a helicopter” had been deployed to help with the search. The wreck was at a depth of around 165 feet, the statement said.  

Divers from the Sicilian city of Sassri and Naples, a city on the Italian mainland , were “arriving on site to search inside the sunken vessel,” it said. 

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian has an aluminum hull and can carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Online sites list the luxury vessel for charter for up to 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week, the AP reported.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Wednesday and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of “at anchor,” according to the vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.

Fabio La Bianca, 40, took a picture of the boat at around 10 p.m. local time Sunday shortly after he closed his bar in nearby Santa Flavia. “Absurd tragedy tonight. I am lost for words,” he said Monday on Facebook.

The staggering 387-foot-long vessel was seen floating at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after arriving at its berth earlier this week, The Sun reported Thursday.

The multi-layered luxury ship’s sleek exterior was designed by Espen Øino International and boasts a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, according to SuperYacht Times.

Reportedly ranking as the 45th largest yacht in the world, the interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing and reportedly executed by Zuretti Interior Design company, a France-based company specializing in unique and custom yacht design.

The breathtakingly beautiful floater stands out with a navy blue theme matching an American flag perched proudly on its wood-paneled stern.

There are several outdoor areas where the social media maven will be able to relax with his family and the indoor levels feature glass paneling allowing for tons of natural light.

There also appears to be a helipad perfect for whenever the Facebook co-founder wants to travel to his vessel by air.

The Feadship-built yacht, built in 2022, can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard, requires a crew of 48, and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com .

Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
