Nordhavn Finishing New 51 in Turkey

Nordhavn is putting the final touches on its first new 51 long-range cruiser at its plant in Turkey. The 51 is a larger version of the well-received 41 that Nordhavn launched in the summer of 2020.

Both the 51 and the 41 are the first Nordhavns to be built in Turkey, where a streamlined production process does not allow for the individual customization that’s available on other Nordhavns that are made in Taiwan and China.

The new 51 has two staterooms and two heads, a flybridge and an elevated pilothouse, all representing upgrades from the 41. Powered by twin 160-hp John Deere diesels, top speed is expected to be about 10 knots, with a cruising speed of 7-8 knots. At the lower speed, range is more than 3,000 nm.

The 51 also will carry a CE Certified Category A classification for serious offshore voyages. The 41 also has that rating. It was Nordhavn’s entry-level passagemaker, a successor to the Nordhavn 40 that cruised around the world in 2001 and 2002.

The contemporary interior is similar to the interior of the 41. The exterior features a raised pilothouse with a reverse-raked windshield, a high foredeck, and a split-level flybridge with a crane for a tender on the aft deck.

Below, the forward part of the hull holds the two en suite cabins, both about the same size. In the amidships one, the bed is set athwartships, while the cabin in the bow has a central island bed.

Nordhavn 51 first look: Turn-key trawler yacht promises globetrotting adventures

Nordhavn has released details of an all-new 51ft trawler yacht. As with last summer’s entry-level 41, the new Nordhavn 51 is designed to be a more affordable ‘turn-key’ model than the semi-custom cruisers that make up the bulk of its fleet.

Built in Turkey rather than Taiwan or China, both the Nordhavn 41 and Nordhavn 51 are fixed spec production boats designed to simplify production and help keep prices down.

Outwardly the 51 is a classic go-anywhere Nordhavn trawler yacht . This includes Nordhavn’s unusual asymmetric layout – on the port side the saloon extends right out to the full beam of the hull whereas to starboard it leaves room for a wide, partially covered side deck.

To hang fenders on the port side you’ll have to step up to the flybridge from the cockpit or via the shorter run of stairs from the foredeck.

Nordhavn at the Newport International Boat Show

Nordhavn Yachts Northeast is excited to be debuting the new Nordhavn 475 at the Newport International Boat Show September 12-15. This will be the first time the newer model Nordhavn will be on display for the public, and she will be up for a “New for Newport” award which spotlights products that are being introduced or debuting at the show. The Nordhavn 475 is based on the hull of the Nordhavn 43 but offers modern styling and more outdoor living area and square footage than her nifty predecessor. You can compare the two by climbing aboard the Nordhavn 43 Wanderer which will also be on exhibit at NIBS. For anyone hoping to own a Nordhavn while being mindful of a budget, Wanderer is the perfect boat: lovingly and thoroughly maintained, several upgrades, easily managed by a couple.

We also invite current and prospective Nordhavn owners to come by the N475 display on Saturday to meet Nordhavn’s Northeast service partner Chris Britton who will be on hand to say hello and assist with questions any owners might have regarding getting their boat ready for the winter or preparations for a trip south or perhaps something nagging that’s being experienced now.
