6-year-old CA boy abducted in 1951 found alive on East Coast more than 70 years later

Luis Armando Albino was abducted while playing at an Oakland, California park

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Luis Armando Albino was 6 years old in 1951 when he was abducted while playing at an Oakland, California park. Now, more than seven decades later, Albino has been found thanks to help from an online ancestry test, old photos and newspaper clippings.

The Bay Area News Group reported Friday that Albino's niece in Oakland - with assistance from police, the FBI and the Justice Department - located her uncle living on the East Coast.

Albino, a father and grandfather, is a retired firefighter and Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, according to his niece, 63-year-old Alida Alequin. She found Albino and reunited him with his California family in June.

On Feb. 21, 1951, a woman lured the 6-year-old Albino from the West Oakland park where he had been playing with his older brother and promised the Puerto Rico-born boy in Spanish that she would buy him candy.

Instead, the woman kidnapped the child, flying him to the East Coast where he ended up with a couple who raised him as if he were their own son, the news group reported. Officials and family members didn't say where on the East Coast he lives.

For more than 70 years Albino remained missing, but he was always in the hearts of his family and his photo hung at relatives' houses, his niece said. His mother died in 2005 but never gave up hope that her son was alive.

Oakland police acknowledged that Alequin's efforts "played an integral role in finding her uncle" and that "the outcome of this story is what we strive for."

In an interview with the news group, she said her uncle "hugged me and said, 'Thank you for finding me' and gave me a kiss on the cheek."

Oakland Tribune articles from the time reported police, soldiers from a local army base, the Coast Guard and other city employees joined a massive search for the missing boy. San Francisco Bay and other waterways were also searched, according to the articles. His brother, Roger Albino, was interrogated several times by investigators but stood by his story about a woman with a bandana around her head taking his brother.

The first notion that her uncle might be still alive came in 2020 when, "just for fun," Alequin said, she took an online DNA test. It showed a 22 percent match with a man who eventually turned out to be her uncle. A further search at the time yielded no answers or any response from him, she said.

In early 2024, she and her daughters began searching again. On a visit to the Oakland Public Library, she looked at microfilm of Tribune articles - including one that had a picture of Luis and Roger - which convinced her that she was on the right track. She went to the Oakland police the same day.

Investigators eventually agreed the new lead was substantial, and a new missing persons case was opened. Oakland police said last week that the missing persons case is closed, but they and the FBI consider the kidnapping a still-open investigation.

Luis was located on the East Coast and provided a DNA sample, as did his sister, Alequin's mom.

On June 20, investigators went to her mother's home, Alequin said, and told them both that her uncle had been found.

"We didn't start crying until after the investigators left," Alequin said. "I grabbed my mom's hands and said, 'We found him.' I was ecstatic."

On June 24, with the assistance of the FBI, Luis came to Oakland with members of his family and met with Alequin, her mother and other relatives. The next day Alequin drove her mother and her newfound uncle to Roger's home in Stanislaus County, California.

"They grabbed each other and had a really tight, long hug. They sat down and just talked," she said, discussing the day of the kidnapping, their military service and more.

Luis returned to the East Coast but came back again in July for a three-week visit. It was the last time he saw Roger, who died in August.

Alequin said her uncle did not want to talk to the media.

"I was always determined to find him, and who knows, with my story out there, it could help other families going through the same thing," Alequin said. "I would say, don't give up."

We used PLY for a party bus during my friend's wedding festivals. I have to say, Mark was great! The bus was amazing. All us boys had a great time...though I hope Mark didn't get too annoyed with how crazy we all got. He was on time and had supplied water and ice for us. Will definitely use PLY again in the future.

I spoke to Mark about the booking and he was very helpful with descriptions and prices. Both my good friend and I rented the 32-person bus for our birthdays (December and February), and had a blast. Key points: 1. Mark was also the driver and is friendly, professional, and prompt 2. They will provide ice and cups on the 32 person bus, which saved me time when planning what to bring on-board 3. The bus is FUN with a lighting system, iPod hook-ups, and rails on the ceiling so you can dance and not fall over while the bus is moving 4. Not only is the bus fun, but it's sexy - with limo-style seating and looks top notch, unlike some other janky party buses I've been on My group was a bit of a handful, so I graciously thank PLY for everything. I had the best birthday EVER!

Celebrating a friend's birthday, a group of 30, decided to rent the party bus & had an unforgettable night :) This is the most fun and safe way of partying since we could bring in our drinks, dance, chat amongst ourselves and get to our desirable spots. Mark was so informative and personable. All of the equipment was clean, up to date, and user friendly. If you are looking for a great time on a party bus, this is where to get it. Positively 5 stars!!!

Mark was great to work with and even accommodated last minute changes to the itinerary. He additionally allowed us to stay an extra hour which was great because it allowed us to make it to our final stop. The land yacht itself was very cool with nice seats, a great sound system, and some really fun laser lights. What $1195 can buy you: - A 6-hour reservation in San Francisco from 9:00pm-3:00am & TAX/ TIP included in the cost! - Prompt pick up - A super-polite, accommodating, and friendly driver by the name of: Mark! (ask for him!!!) - A disgustingly luxurious/ elegant/ classy ride for the night that entertainment-wise was equipped with: an iPod hook-up, a CD player, a DVD player so you can rock out to whatever your ear drums desire - 32 passengers (we squeezed 35-36 into the vehicle comfortably) to split said cost amongst - 2 complimentary bottles of champagne (chilled) w/ approximately a case of water also chilled. - Red Carpet rolled out for the 1st pick-up of the night - A 6-venue party-hop that picked us up in SoMa, lead us into the Mission, back up to the Tenderloin, through SoMa again, to Union Square area, to North Beach, across the Golden Gate Bridge & back home to SoMa (we organized the clubbing part of the night, but Pacific made it seamless to get everywhere ON TIME!) - No drunk/ tipsy drivers, no people left behind trying to hail a cab in SF on a Saturday night (miracle in and of itself) & wait for 30 useless minutes - A RESTROOM (when you have 32+ WOMEN, this is a non-negotiable feature) - A cell phone number you can reach your driver @ to call your party bus in front of a venue 5mins before departure - An immediate-quote response when you fill out the form on the website - They let you coordinate a date/ time for you to swing by and check out the vehicle before your event date - You can load up on the alcohol, food, snacks and bring them on the party bus! - I'm sure there's a dozen other things I'm forgetting right now that I know I should be thanking them for... The search has ended. From now on, Mark & Pacific Land Yachts will be our go-to for a VIP kinda night & ride! A bachelorette accommodated magically for the night! Thank you! Thank you! After searching all over the Bay I came across Pacific Land Yachts. I emailed them and received a reasonable quote and decided to go with them for my 30th birthday party. Mark picked my friends up and he was very patient since most of my friends were already tipsy. We hired him for 5hours. We were picked up in San Jose and dropped off at a club in San Francisco and then he picked us again to take us back to San Jose. He was very attentive and corresponded with me during the week to make sure we would be ok getting into the club in San Francisco. The bus had a bathroom which was very convenient. Not a lot of party bus companies have bathrooms so I would highly recommend Pacific Land Yachts. The night was blur but my friends and I all got back to San Jose safely. No DUI or arrests. If you are looking to have a good time hire Pacific Land Yachts. The bus is nice and spacious and they supply you with ice and bottles of water. It's like a moving night club and they have two 26" Tv's and a great sound system. I would have preferred to just party in the bus, it's so much fun and you are guaranteed to be in safe hands. I am definitely hiring Pacific Land Yachts again for future outings. Thank you Mark.

Mark drove our group to the Warriors game this weekend and the bus ride was the highlight of the trip! We took his 32 person bus which was clean, spacious and had all the amenities. Mark was great and got us up there quickly despite a lot of traffic. We will definitely use him again!

If you need to book a party bus, I highly recommend Pacific Land Yachts!! After spending several hours one evening researching and sending out price quote requests to various companies, PLY was the only one that paid attention to my particular needs (namely, our budget) and Mark answered all my follow-up questions clearly and promptly (I emailed and called to confirm.) Thanks to Yelp reviews, we decided it was safe to book with PLY. There are no hidden fees whatsoever, everything is included in the price quote. We called the day before prom to confirm pickup time and location, and it was such a relief to see our bus roll into our street right on time on the day of. The bus was wonderfully clean and so luxurious; the photos definitely don't lie! We loved being able to hook up our phones to the sound system so we could play our own music, and everyone got complimentary bottles of water. The disco lighting, window blinds, and non-row seating were a great plus, and our 34 passenger bus fit 34 people snugly but not uncomfortably. Our driver was polite and easy to communicate with, especially considering we were a bunch of very excited teenagers. When prom ended at midnight, our bus was right outside our venue waiting for us. If you're searching for a party bus, look no further! Pacific Land Yachts, far and away, are the absolute best in SF! I booked the 30 passenger white bus for a birthday party. The bus was very spacious, clean and had a great sound system. Mark was fantastic! Not only did he offer the best rate, only a 4 hour minimum with taxes and gratuity included, he was extremely professional, went out of his way to ensure we had a great time AND even dropped our excess beverages food off at our house so we could make it to the club on time! Talk about EXCELLENT customer service! I will definitely use PLY again!!

We have looked everywhere for a decent party bus around SF and have found none. Thankfully, we found Pacific Land Yachts. This company is the GREATEST! The price is reasonable and the bus is off the hook! On top of that, we had an awesome driver. Mark was so courteous and on time! He took us to five different places in SF and didn't even complain.
