Captain Josh Turner: Captain Josh grew up around the Seattle area of the Pacific Northwest. The rivers he learned to salmon fish on were seasonal but plentiful and stocked full of silver salmon. Since then his experience has taken him all over the country and world. One of his first experiences as a Captain was running a boat out of Lahaina, Maui. Windjammer cruises kept his days full of Humpback whales and beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. From here he went across the globe to Alaska and the Seward area. Where he enjoyed the serene beauty of the same whales breeching, Bald Eagles and running a sport fishing boat. During this part of his life Josh was a successful captain and landed lots of Pacific Salmon, Pacific Halibut, Lingcod and sea bass. From Alaska to Newport Beach California, where Captain Josh worked with Sunseekers Yachts for eight years in and out of the Newport area. But Josh needed warmer water and more fun in the sun, so off to Virgin Islands He was the captain for excursion boats from St Thomas to Virgin Gorda. There were plenty of opportunities here for Josh to expand his fishing for Ahi and sail fish. From Maui to Alaska to Virgin Islands to Florida and The Bahamas. Captain Josh found his place in the world. Great cruising in the Bahamas and places to explore. The Bahamas are a place to get in the heat of all the action, to the quiet Otter Islands and Bahamian vibe and culture. Florida and the Florida Keys, what more can you say, all the great things in one spot. Captain Josh is a certified SCUBA diver, free diver fisherman and loves to go Lobstering when he can. He Loves the water and finds happiness introducing people to his favorite things! Mate John McCabe: John started in the marine industry back in 1992 working dinner cruises in Seward, Alaska as a deck hand. After moving to Maui, Hawaii in 1994, he continued his marine experience operating 5-star sunset dinner cruises aboard a 100 foot 3-masted schooner. A move to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1997 shifted his marine education to the competitive world of Great Lakes regattas and sailboat racing, while owning and operating a full-service restaurant and brewery near the Marina. After 17 years of Great Lakes sailing experience, John moved to Southeast Florida in 2014 and continues to enjoy catering to guests on board private Miami Yacht charters and Fort Lauderdale fishing expeditions on M/V Andiamo. John is currently is working towards his USCG Captain’s license to further his career in the Marine industry Chenaé van Niekerk: Chenaé began her culinary career at an early age. She discovered her passion and started working for an Advanced Food and Wine Degree, she worked in the kitchens of top‐rated restaurants and catering companies. In 2014, she brought her culinary expertise to the maritime industry. As a chef she travelled the Mediterranean Sea, Asia, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, the US, and the Caribbean. Catering for guests from U.S., Belgium, Italy, England, France, Australia, Arabian, and Scandinavian countries, her focus is on healthy, tasteful food, ensuring the nutritional benefits of each meal. Chef Chenae’s dedication to her craft and preparing exceptional international menus, combined with her health coach certification; uniquely qualifies her to expertly prepare a menu suited to make our guests time aboard Andiamo a delicious one. In her spare time Chenae enjoys riding horses and all types of water activities. She is a certified diver and has been able to test the worlds waters. She also enjoys a good book and relaxing.

Andiamo! Let’s Go! We had an amazing week and felt right at home. Josh, Chris, and Chef Nell made it very memorable and easy. The food and service was top notch. Andiamo is a great boat! The crew makes her shine! Atlantis, Elenthra, Stanley Key, Governors Bay, lost of diving & kiting, Highbourne and back home. We hope to visit again! Personally, I loved the trip! Seeing sharks was amazing and a little scary. But making a new friend Amelie (Ahm-ah-lee). Her birthday is close to mine too! My favorite day was New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day because: First boat sleepover day, swirlie temples, and when West and Amelie got their scuba certifications! Amazing time on Andiamo!

Entering the main salon from the huge aft deck, and through the large glass electric sliding door, stairs to the crew quarters, galley and engine room is to port, a large entertainment center boarders this stairwell and curved settee lines the starboard side of the salon.

The entertainment system has seen various upgrades including, HD Sat-TV, Apple TV, Kaleidescape on-demand system, and sat radio. V-Sat data streaming equipment has also been installed for the global internet.

Forward of the salon is the full beam central dining area, giving panoramic views of the ocean through the expanse of windows, and the electric sliding roof opens this entire area up to the outside to allow for unparalleled dining under the stars.

Further forward and slightly to starboard is the futuristic helm station, this area encompasses two 17” Raymarine touch screen multi-input displays, digital and analog engine displays, and the ship's power management screen. Other navigational equipment include an independent GPS, depth sounder, wind indicator, FLIR night vision camera, searchlight control, bow thruster, Radar control.

To port is the stairwell to the lower guest accommodation area.

Forward on the lower deck is an elegant full-beam master cabin with a large en suite bathroom and walk-in closet.

This relaxing cabin has three oversized portholes on the port and starboard side, opening it up to the outdoors and allowing unobstructed views of the horizon, a desk and chaise lounge give this room multifunctional appeal. For entertainment, there’s a 46” flat-screen TV which connects to the Sat-TV, Apple TV, and Kaleidescape on-demand system.

The starboard double en suite cabin and port twin cabin, also with en suite bathroom, are both decorated to the same standard as the master and also benefit from the same features such as multiple portholes, large bathrooms, and extensive entertainment systems.

Descending the aft stairs into the crew/galley area, you enter into the huge galley which allows for easy food preparation for large groups of guests. On the starboard side are the crew cabins which can comfortably accommodate 4 crew.

Having recently received brand new paint and teak decks, Andiamo truly shows like a new yacht and shows off her exterior which was designed around entertaining large groups or relaxing in the sun, to her full potential.

The large and open aft deck features a central dining table with built-in seating and a hi-lo table that converts this area into a huge sun pad. A sail style sunshade can be erected over the aft deck, supported by a custom stainless steel frame, this shade is safe and rigid in strong winds.

This deck also features two outdoor TV’s, chest drinks refrigerators, and grill.

On the foredeck a large sun pad with built-in speakers covers the bow area, this space is ideal for privately relaxing in the sun.

The swim platform is accessed via the port or starboard stairs and offers easy access to the water. The tender garage is located behind the hydraulically operated transom door, this area is ideal for storing multiple water toys cushions, and features a 400 kg davit.

The motor yacht ANDIAMO is a 37 m 120 (foot) well proportioned composite vessel which was built by Benetti Yachts and concieved by Fratelli Benetti and Stefano Righini. The private boat has been brought about with the naval architecture of Fratelli Benetti and Stefano Righini. Zuretti Interior Design acted on the designing of the interior.

Shipyard Work & Naval Architecture of Luxury Yacht ANDIAMO

Fratelli Benetti was the naval architecture company involved in the formal superyacht design work for ANDIAMO. Her interior design was completed by Zuretti Interior Design. Fratelli Benetti and Stefano Righini is also associated with the yacht general design work for this boat. In 2006 she was formally launched with triumph in Fano and post sea trials and finishing touches was afterwards handed over to the new owner. Benetti Yachts completed their new build motor yacht in Italy. The hull was constructed with composite. The motor yacht main superstructure is fabricated largely using composite. With a beam of 7.9 metres or 25.92 feet ANDIAMO has moderate room. She has a fairly shallow draught of 1.95m (6.4ft).

M/Y ANDIAMO Engineering And Propulsion:

Installed with twin MTU diesel engines, ANDIAMO is able to attain a top speed of 16 knots. Her propulsion units are twin screw propellers. She also has an economical range of 3300 miles when sailing at her cruising speed of 15 knots. Her total HP is 2980 HP and her total Kilowatts are 2193.

37m 'Andiamo' ablaze in Miami

The most recent fire further highlights just how susceptible superyachts are to fire-related incidents….

A video that has been widely circulated online shows 36.6m Benetti-built Andiamo on fire at the Watson Island marina in Florida. It is believed the superyacht is the property of US singer Marc Anthony. Reports are currently suggesting that the incident will result in the total loss of the vessel.

According to the reports, more than 45 firefighters, as well as fire boats, were called to the scene in an attempt to fight the blaze from both the water and the land and stop it spreading to other vessels in the marina. However, the damage has been described as ‘catastrophic’.

Having been delivered in 2006, Andiamo was sold in 2011, 2016 and 2017 for €10.5m, $5.8m and $5.9 million respectively.

Fire remains a major cause for concern for the superyacht market. Indeed, since 2000 there has been 55 reported superyacht fires, which accounts for one per cent of total deliveries. In fact, fire represents the second most common superyacht incident reported, with many resulting in major or complete losses. Importantly, if these fires occur in either a shipyard or marina, it is more than likely that the blaze will generate a series of claims from neighbouring vessels and businesses, whether that be fire damage, smoke damage or other fire related claims.

Rather concerningly, since 2000 there have been a total of 397 reported superyacht incidents and, when one considers the private nature of the market, we can assume that, in reality, this figure should actually be significantly higher. The 397 reported incidents represent 7.1 per cent of all 30m-plus superyachts. However, by far the most common incident is detention/port seizure and, while arguably less serious than some of the other incidents, clearly highlights the market’s need to professionalise.

More often than not, when one considers the causes of fires on board superyachts, the natural inclination is to assume that the fault lies with one of either the new build or refit shipyards that have worked on the vessel over the course of its lifetime. The truth, however, is far more complicated. Increasingly, the causes of fires can be traced back to human error and third-party technologies.

In September 2019, Transport Malta published a report on the loss of 41m CCN-built M/Y Kanga in 2018.

On 7 September 2018 MY Kanga was at anchor in the coastal area of Dubrovnik, Croatia. While the first officer was on the bridge the fire panel gave off an alarm, indicating that there was a fire in the garage.

Upon inspection the first officer was overwhelmed by the presence of heat and smoke in the garage. The main fire alarm was triggered and the first officer called all crew and passengers to muster at the bow. An attempt was made to fight the fire; however, it was unsuccessful. The fire rose towards the upper decks and subsequently grew out of control. The yacht was abandoned on orders given by the master. No injuries were reported.

The ensuing safety investigation concluded that, in all probability, the fire had been caused by the Lithium-ion batteries of four electric surfboards.

Engineers, for the most part, have complete control of the engine room and technical spaces on board. They know the risks associated with these areas and they know how to manage them. The same, however, is not true of some of the more innocuous technologies that fall under the care of the crew.

As owners and guests have begun demanding more technology on board, an increasingly large number of third-party elements are being added to the vessel’s cargo, many of which rely on Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are typically used in technologies that require charging. They are inexpensive, lightweight, powerful and, unfortunately, extremely combustible. For this reason, is it advisable that crew pay special attention to the risks associate with Lithium-ion batteries and how these differ from product to product.

While working on Kanga the crew had indicated that they were experiencing problems with the batteries of the surfboards, namely that there was sea water leaking into three of four of the batteries. They had notified the manufacturer in order to receive replacements, and the manufacturer advised the crew not to use the affected batteries. During the investigation into the cause of the fire, the crew admitted that they were not aware of how dangerous the Lithium-ion batteries were.

While we can only speculate about the cause of the fire on board Andiamo , this incident highlights just how common superyacht fires are becoming. Whether the blaze is caused by a fault with the vessel itself or as a result of human error and third-party technologies, as the industry continues to professionalise, it must be impressed upon crewmembers, guests and owners, just how common the incidents are becoming and what can be done to stop them.

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, she has impressive speed and great efficiency thanks to her planing hull. Powered by twin MTU engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 22 knots with a range of up to 700 nautical miles from her 9,841 litre fuel tanks. With a shallow draft of 1.68m/5'6" Andiamo can anchor closer to coves and sheltered bays overnight. An on board stabilization system ensures comfort when underway.

Andiamo: The 48m go-getter superyacht from Baglietto

There is nothing wrong with heading straight to the top, particularly on the new Baglietto 48 metre Andiamo . The eye-catching feature on the 140 square metre superyacht sundeck , or “terrace” as designer Francesco Paszkowski likes to call it, is the 2,200 litre glass-fronted pool, complete with waterfall. A closed circuit system circulates water over a sloped glass piece connected to the hardtop.

Trying to figure out how the water reaches the top and then watching it slide over the glass is a great exercise in mindfulness. Also nice for day dreaming is the gurgling sound of water best enjoyed from nearby chaise longues overlooking the ocean beyond the stainless steel handrails, a gentle breeze brushing across the face.

Fitted with a bar, the rest of this deck is furnished mostly with loose furniture that can be rearranged according to need: a games table, loungers, a sofa, armchairs and a dining table among them. The materials of choice for the comfortable furniture are teak and steel, covered with outdoor fabric in tinges of grey and white.

The North American owners who commissioned what would become Andiamo had liked Baglietto’s 46 metre displacement yacht, which was delivered in 2014 and is now known as Mr T . But it wasn’t absolutely right for them. They really needed six cabins.

So Baglietto’s design partner Paszkowski (associated with the brand since the early 1990s) went back to the drawing board and worked closely with the yard and the owner’s build team to create a yacht that would have room for five generous guest cabins plus a master suite on the main deck and remain below 500GT.

The client’s long-time broker, Miami-based Fernando Nicholson, and Camper & Nicholsons ’ new-build project department developed the specifications. Nicholson says that thorough specifications are as fundamental to making a good boat as good genes are to a human being. Another part of the equation is a good team. Nicholson enlisted naval engineer Horacio Bozzo , of Axis Design, to act as surveyor on this challenging project, for which the client specified no change orders.

With a few clever decisions relating to the layout, the magic number to realise the client’s wishes proved to be a length of 47.6 metres. The Andiamo project gave Paszkowski the opportunity to update the styling of what the yard has dubbed the T-line. The basics remain of the previous 46 metre — a full displacement hull, three decks, a superyacht beach club and a forward toy storage area — but with numerous enhancements, including an additional tender garage with side opening door just forward of the beach club. “I think it’s a very sexy boat and the accommodation is fantastic,” Nicholson says.

“We focused on several fundamental points,” Paszkowski says, “the shapes, superstructure, surfaces and the exterior spaces, with special emphasis on the flybridge, stern and the idea of contact with the sea. We modified the curves of the deck structure to increase the yacht’s interior volume, with a wide-body configuration on the main deck to benefit the owner’s accommodation. In the superstructure we’ve shifted the helm station, which has been rotated and inclined towards the bridge’s forward raking windows. The roll-bar is also redesigned.”

The new look displacement yacht remains quintessentially Baglietto though — elegant and modern. Fans of the brand will have no trouble identifying Andiamo as a product of the builder located in La Spezia on the beautiful Ligurian coast of Italy.

The owners went for an all white paint scheme over the steel hull and aluminium superstructure with just a touch of colour in the two radar domes, which are painted black. Large expanses of glass provide the necessary contrast with the immaculate white.

Inside, the design by Paszkowski and architect Margherita Casprini is also a study in elegant contrast, with glossy ebony on the walls, matt oak flooring, light fabrics and backlit onyx.

“The selection of just a few materials and a limited colour palette throughout was a well-defined choice intended to emphasise their high quality,” says Casprini, “and to create an atmosphere of sober elegance which reflects the owner’s sophisticated taste. We focused on details and finishes, combining custom-made furnishings with made in Italy design pieces and providing light with LED spots and strips.”

Apart from several custom designed pieces, such as the ebony and onyx dining table positioned in front of a large backlit champagne onyx mural, are pieces selected from Italian shops. Armchairs from Flexform’s Mood Collection and Maxalto in the owner’s office add to the contemporary yet relaxed feel on board. Lighting plays an important role in setting the mood; lamps from Oluce in the saloon or Lumis in the owner’s suite add a homely touch to the LED lighting’s architectural features.

“The spiral stairs in the foyer, with a steel column, leather steps and steel edges, is both an aesthetic and functional element,” Paszkowski says. It provides access to the lower deck, where three guest cabins have been fitted with a large single bed and two with twin beds that slide together to welcome a couple.

“Stylistic coherence”, as the designers describe their style, balances cold material such as Calacatta marble in the guest cabins and crystalline white onyx in the owner’s suite with warm suede and leather for the headboards and dark venetian blinds.

In creating five large cabins on the lower deck, the designers moved some of the crew services to the main deck, such as the mess and laundry facility. However, it is a good trade-off. The mess is adjacent to a spacious pantry area and the galley, which has a residential rather than industrial feel with white worktops and Miele stainless steel appliances. Windows and a frosted sliding glass door allow plenty of light throughout most of the crew space on the main deck. The crew access is well thought out, practical and unobtrusive.

A dumb waiter serves another large pantry on Andiamo ’s bridge deck. The guest area here is laid out as a convivial cinema or chill space with a custom sofa and drop-down balconies opening on either side, large enough for a couple of foldable chairs. Outside the glass doors is a covered dining space with generous seating for 12, plus more deep sofas to flop onto after a good meal.

Forward, naturally, is the bridge, just as elegant in its utilitarian way as the rest of Andiamo . The glass bridge custom designed by Telemar splits navigation information over four screens. The dark colour scheme and inclined windshield effectively prevent sun reflections from hindering navigation, which is particularly appropriate for a yacht with transatlantic range.

Sound design and engineering is at the heart of the company. After Baglietto was bought by the Gavio Group in 2012, the parent company began restructuring the business. Appointments in 2015 brought two engineers with industrial backgrounds to the key posts of CEO (Umberto Tosoni holds a degree in management engineering) and general manager (Michele Gavino, an aeronautical engineer by education). The acquisition also restored financial stability and allowed substantial investment into R&D and expansion, which helped Baglietto refine its offering and develop new models.

From a fun dayboat that builds on the yard’s military history, to the Fast line and full displacement yachts, the yard inspires its clientele with ready-to-build concepts that it can customise. The latest project announced at the Monaco Yacht Show is a 70 metre developed with Mulder Design . Gavino enjoys the combination of design and engineering that Mulder brings to the table. “I am an engineer. I like every time to start from ‘the basement’,” he says.

New orders have come in the past few months, and with Andiamo the yard is planting seeds in American soil. More than ever, it seems raring to go. What could be better for a builder with a sturdy new foundation and the means to go forward than a yacht called Andiamo ? Let’s go!
