General description :

The Y7 is Y Yachts best selling model of this contemporary range of performance carbon constructed superyachts (70-100ft). Y Yachts are a luxury technologically advanced brand which was founded by the highly respected Michael Schmidt (formerly founder and owner of Hanse yachts, Germany).

This flush decked sleek hull is powered by an Axxon high modulus carbon mast, carbon furling boom, high performance Doyle sails and a performance Weldox keel. It is no wonder this fast cruising yacht targets the sailing enthusiast who prefers no compromise performance combined with the very best equipment yet simplicity with luxury. Despite being 22m (70ft) in length and with a 212 SqM square top mainsail and 296 SqM Code Zero, the Y7 is very much conceived to be simply operated by the owners. All control lines lead aft to the twin helm stations where the helm can simply sail the yacht by themselves thanks to push button Harken winches. Wide open deck spaces are plentiful on the Y7 and her large lounging cockpit is ideal for al-fresco dining or just for hanging out under the boom bimini. For the owner who would appreciates crewed help onboard there is a dedicated crew cabin with its own private aft deck access. Michael Schmidt is a firm believer in simplicity and ‘no-fuss’ systems that work. As a consequence the Y7’s deck design and sailing systems could not be easier to operate.

Below decks the stylised open plan accommodation is beautifully fitted out with Natural Oak furniture, Oak sole boards and bulkheads. Where possible all furniture and bulkheads are of lightweight foam composite construction. Its no wonder at 30t (lightship) she is fast and rewarding to sail. This Y7 has the most popular three cabin layout plus twin crew cabin. Forward of the large full beam saloon is a U shaped galley to starboard (fully equipped with professional Miele equipment & Grohe Blue Tap) and to port an owners desk/mini office. Forward of the mast is the forward facing master cabin with central king sized bed and ensuite bathroom. Aft of the saloon is the Navigation station with desk and all ships central controls. Either side of the companionway are two twin berthed guest cabins – the starboard cabin having an infill option to create a large double bed. Each aft guest cabin has its own bathroom with shower, basin and electric WC.

There are two large storage lockers onboard. Most impressive of all is the aft deck lazarette which has a 3.2 x 1.8m hydraulic opening deck hatch. This full beam locker is entirely separate from the transom and therefore remains completely dry. This locker will store a 3-4m dinghy (partially deflated), cockpit cushions, fenders, downwind sails, tools, shore power cables and deck furniture etc. The dinghy can be lifted from the lazarette by a dedicated carbon pole lift point which is stored in the end of the boom The other large storage locker is forward at the bow - just behind the dedicated anchor and chain locker.

Fibres are used to optimize the performance of the lamination as necessary. The fibres will be impregnated and post-cured with high temperature for maximum strength.

Swim platform:

On the transom is a fold out 1.9 x 1.4m swim platform with steps down from deck and separate swim ladder

A large sociable cockpit with linear bench seating facing each other. Two foldout Teak tables join to create a large dining table for 8-10 guests. Directly aft of the lounging/dining area are two large sofa styled sun pads which directly face each helm pod. These are excellent areas in which to lounge and chat to the helms person!

The galley is located starboard side and forward of the salon. A single piece of Corian countertop integrates the single sink, faucet and gimballed stove and oven. There is a stainless-steel refrigerator / freezer with 2 drawers and top loading freezer. There are perforated shelves for the galley drawers with positional poles in a pre-defined grid to organize galley storage (5 pcs).

The Y7 Tripp 70 is a 22m lightweight sailing yacht made of carbon with a modern and clean design. Like many modern and fast sailing yachts, the Y7 has a wide stern, so the yacht will be equipped with a twin rudder. One disadvantage of twin rudders could be a bad maneuverability in marinas but a twin-engine configuration with two 75 hp Volvo Penta engines will compensate that and streams the rudder blades directly. One of the engines serves also as a generator but a further generator is also available as an option.

The yard has the principle

“Keep it simple”

that a family can sail the yacht by themselves or with a small crew. So the yacht has a self-tacking jib. The draft of the yacht with the fixed keel 3.30 meters. But you can order the yacht with a lifting keel to reduce the draft to 1.90 meters. In the sailing mode, the keel bomb hangs in 3.60 meters. There is also a performance keel with a lower center of gravity.

The Y7 Tripp 70 has a basic layout and four layout options. Owners’ cabin with en-suite bathroom is always in the forward area, crew cabin next to the tender garage at the aft. Dining and living area with coffee table amidships. The interior is made of lightweight materials with veneer.

The price starts at EUR 1.820.000 , my personal configuration (who is interested, the list of chosen options is in the tab below) ends at EUR 2.317.270 (without VAT). When I am choosing all options without special requests, I came on a maximum price of EUR 2.599.630 . Price list stand: November 2017.

The beautiful joinery has stood the test of time and offers a traditionally warm ambiance. The Swan 38 was considered a roomy yacht for its time and although cannot be compared to today's wide and beamy yachts, still combines to give a feeling of spaciousness with the deep hull sections and substantial displacement providing plenty of volume. Thus storage room is generous and useful. Interestingly, the splendid pilot berths which provide possibly the best of berths at sea on any yacht, also means that the eye is taken out to the hull sides and gives a feeling of space. My husband and I recently purchased a 330 SeaRay through Robert at Fillingham Yatchs. It was a pleasure working with Rob and Micki throughout the whole process. Rob was very patient and knowledgeable when it came to answering our many questions, and addressing our concerns. We live up north, and Rob gladly handled the marine survey on our behalf, and more importantly, directed and followed through with all the necessary repairs as he said he would. After the purchase, Rob set a day aside for us to fly into Tampa to take us out for the day to familiarize us with the boat and to make sure we were comfortable with all aspects of it. He also took it upon himself to arrange transportation of the boat from Tampa to Miami, and even went as far as meeting the boat in Miami to ensure there were no problems. Robert and Micki are both nice people and good at what they do. My boat had some serious engine problems discovered during the Sea Trial/Survey; anti-freeze in the oil. Robert arranged for a mechanic, the problem got fixed and the deal was completed. I am in CA, the boat in FL so it was GREAT help to me that he was willing to deal with it so I did not need to make a trip to FL. I would HIGHLY recommend and definitely do business with them again.
