The Sausalito Yacht Club was founded in 1942 by a group of teenagers (the oldest was only 16) who had signed on to care for the boats of many Bay Area residents after they entered military service with the US entry into World War II. Almost 70 years later the club has achieved greater size and stature, but continues its commitment to sponsoring boat races, youth sailing and community support.
Membership is open to people who have boats in Sausalito or live in the area and who have an interest in boating.
The clubhouse is located adjacent to the Sausalito Ferry pier , between the Ferry and the Spinnaker Restaurant .
We have been guests of Members at SYC events. Their bar and dining room serve excellent food and have great views, especially out on the patio.

We Welcome New Members & Families to our Club
Sausalito Yacht Club was founded on New Year’s Eve, 1942. The purpose of the Club is to actively promote the sport of boating, sail training, develop and sponsor yachting and yacht racing events; educate members about marine oriented skills; to be actively involved in our community with a focus on activities that enhance our standing in the community; and to provide and manage a convivial bar and galley operation for the benefit of the membership.
Most of the members of the Sausalito Yacht Club are from Sausalito or Marin County, San Francisco, or the East Bay, and keep their boats in Sausalito. Boat ownership, although strongly encouraged, is not required to be a member. SYC is a member club of the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA), and club Members enjoy Reciprocity visiting privileges of most recognized yacht clubs in the world.
Sausalito Yacht Club has an active Race, Cruise and Entertainment schedule, and hosts many events such as our Annual Crab Feed, Lobster Dinners, Pig Roasts, Opening Day on the Bay, Valentine’s Day Dinner, New Year’s Eve Party, and Easter and Christmas events. We frequently have live music at the club during the week and on the weekends. The Sausalito Yacht Club was founded on the principles of belonging. Our membership always has been and will continue to be inclusive and diverse and we welcome all boating enthusiasts. All applicants are considered for membership without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, or age.
