Guests have been enjoying the sailing experience with Hardy's Bay Yacht Charters, for the past fifteen years. Sailing charters depart from Hardy's Bay and Killcare just 1.5 hours north of Sydney or a 20 minute ferry ride from Palm Beach.

Our two sailing options are 'Lasal' (Spanish for 'The Salt') a 38' Bavaria mono-hull sailing yacht. Lasal is ideal for group sizes of six to ten guests on day charters and up to six guests overnight. And 'Gem' a 41' Lagoon  Luxury Catamaran with three double cabins and two bathrooms.

We have some of the best sailing waters in the world - Broken Bay, The Brisbane Water, The Hawkesbury River and Pittwater are amazing and the raw beauty and diversity will take your breath away. The sailing is a mix of blue water sailing on Broken Bay and calm water sailing on the Hawkesbury and Pittwater with a vast array of bays, beaches and national parks to explore.

With a number of sailing packages on offer, ranging from a 3 hour 'taste of sail' experience, to a full day skippered charter or our wonderfully romantic overnight stay, we have a sailing experience perfect for the novice sailor right through to the old salty.

Hobie "Wave" Catamarans are known for being one of the easiest catamarans to tack, even without a jib.  Easy to understand free 5 minutes of instruction is included in your hire, so you’ll be sailing along the magnificent Pumicestone Passage wondering why you hadn’t done this earlier. For those that need a little more guidance, arrange for a 30-60 minute lesson with one of our instructors to help you get that extra confidence to be independent on the water.

Our Hobie “Wave” Catarmarans are easier sail than you think and are a convenient and fun way for the intermediate sailor to hone their skills on the magnificent protected waterway.

What is a crewed catamaran charter vacation?

It's a luxury catamaran ranging from 45 feet and above, with a minimum, captain and a chef onboard, who run the boat for the duration of your vacation and are there to create the best possible luxury vacation experience. Your crew create an itinerary based on your activity preferences, whether you're looking to go hiking, snorkeling, beach bar hopping, shopping, diving, or just spend the day sunbathing with a good book in hand; a crewed charter yacht has something for everyone.

During the week your crew will prepare 5-star meals according to your likes and dislikes, teach you how to use watersport toys (like an e-foil board or kite surfing), create super fun theme nights, and maybe even sing karaoke with you. It's the perfect way to reconnect with your loved ones, unplug from the world, feed that adventurous side, celebrate an anniversary, birthday or holiday. Are there different types of charters.

Yes. There are several types of charters: all-inclusive, plus expenses, captain only, and bareboat. At Catamaran Central we only book our clients on the all-inclusive or plus expenses options. An all-inclusive catamaran charter means the charter rate will cover all of your meals, your snacks, desserts, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), the watersport toys onboard, fuel for the dinghy, the mooring balls, and so forth. The majority of sailing catamaran charters in the Caribbean offer the “all-inclusive” rate. The plus expenses rate is more common in Europe, The Mediterranean and with motor yachts. The quoted charter rate in this scenario only covers the cost of the crew and the yacht. In addition to the charter rate, an APA (advanced provisioning allowance) is used, usually costing anywhere from 30-35% of the charter rate and covers your provisions (consumables) and fuel. The APA is like a bank account for your duration onboard the yacht, in which the captain and chef keep track of your costs; anything left over is returned to the client.

Are there any extra Costs?

If your catamaran charter falls under the all-inclusive branch, the only extra costs are crew gratuity (industry standards are 15-20% of the charter fee), your travel, any land excursions your group may want to do while on charter (i.e. relax at Lovango Cay Beach Resort, rent a safari truck on Virgin Gorda to tour the island, rent scooters on Anegada, etc), and diving. Otherwise the charter fee covers all of your food, beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), water toys, fuel for dinghy, mooring balls, cruising fees and permits, etc.

Certain cruising areas (i.e. The Bahamas) will also charge a 14% VAT, on top of the charter rate, so depending on where your group wants to charter, there could be additional government taxes.

Why use a charter broker?

The simplest answer. It's at no cost to you, the client. A good charter broker is someone who attends multiple charter yacht shows a year to inspect the yachts personally, meet the crews, and know which yacht management companies to trust in delivering an exceptional product. An even better charter broker is someone who has themselves chartered a yacht and knows the cruising grounds personally.

In general, catamarans have two hulls connected by a central structure which allows them to sail flat. There are several advantages to flat sailing. The shallow, raised hulls at each end reduce friction in the water and improve the boat’s glide. This is also beneficial for any sailors that get seasick! This makes the boat less rocky and therefore will make it less likely that you feel seasick.

There are 4 levels in a catamaran: cabin, saloon and cockpit, the piloting and trampoline. It is a very airy boat, bright and open to the outside, which contributes to its luxurious side.

The speed of a catamaran is on average 6 to 13 knots. Finally, when it comes to the navigation of the catamaran itself, maneuvers are done from the cockpit because catamarans are often designed to be maneuvered by a single person.

What is included in a catamaran charter and what additional expenses can I expect?

Each catamaran charter offer has different additional and included costs. Depending on the owner’s offer items such as the skipper, a deposit, chef and crew, and water sports equipment such as snorkeling masks, paddle surf and kayaks may be included or additional costs.

Some owners will ask for a deposit, which needs to be paid at check-in. Likewise, a skipper may be mandatory or optional and come at an additional or included price depending on the catamaran option. If you decide to sail without a skipper, then additional costs may also include insurance.

Other mandatory extras can include final cleaning and refueling after your rental service. Ask the boat owner if they would like you to refill the fuel before giving the boat back or if they prefer to handle that themselves at an additional cost. Mooring fees at the base may also be included but if you decide to moor at other destinations then the fee will be an additional cost.
