Bahamas Yacht Charter
A Bahamas yacht charter promises guests a slice of tropical perfection and unparalleled escapism. The idyllic chain of islands that form the Bahamas provides yacht charter guests with a decadent cocktail of sun-drenched sands (even pink ones), crystalline waters teeming with marine life, and diverse topography.
Comprising more than 700 heavenly islands with precious few inhabited, the cruising grounds of the Bahamas archipelago offer a fascinating mixture of seclusion and connectedness. Expect a gloriously slower pace of life that harmonizes with the gentle tide, blended with a fiesta of blazing color and soft-calypso: an endearingly exotic charter experience.
Silhouetted by coral cays, aquamarine shallows are garlanded with glistening coves and iridescent bays are often only three or four meters deep, making the Bahamas both a perennial family favorite and a jet-setter's paradise. It's ideal territory for shallow draft yachts or catamarans, who can cozy up to seldom-visited anchorages and soak up their celestial calm, or delve deeper for an aquatic adventure.

Types of Charter Yachts in the Bahamas
Crewed motor yacht charters and luxury catamaran charters are undoubtedly the best way to discover the Bahamas.
As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the Caribbean , guests have countless fleet options when it comes to a Bahamas crewed charter. If you are unsure whether to opt for a motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran to cruise Bahamian waters, here are some main points to consider:
Shallow Cruising Grounds
The waters all around the Bahamas are fairly shallow, often no more than 4 meters deep, and even less in some places. Therefore, yachts with shallow drafts make the ideal choice for luxury charters around this enchanting region.
Most sailing charter yachts come equipped with a retractable keel, facilitating access to the beautiful turquoise shallows, although larger sailing yachts may still find their draft too deep for some areas, even with their keel up!
To get around this, some of the larger luxury yachts drop their anchor further out into the deeper waters and use their onboard tenders to explore the area, where guests can experience the thrill of getting up close and personal with the archipelago’s astonishing marine fauna, including rays, sharks and inquisitive swimming pigs. The yachts’ tenders also enable even greater access to the Bahamas' myriad exquisite island reefs and blue lagoons.
Motor yacht charter in the Bahamas
A luxury motor yacht provides guests with a tranquil haven to uncover the startling beauty of the Bahamas. Whether you want to peacefully bronze under Bahamian rays or get out the jet skis and whizz around deserted islands, a crewed motor yacht charter in the Bahamas provides you with boundless itinerary options.
Sailing Yacht Charter in the Bahamas
Chartering a sailing yacht in the Bahamas means you can embrace all that these substantially beautiful islands have to offer. Cruising further afield to otherwise inaccessible sleepy villages with chalk-white beaches and waters suffused with a pale aqua glow is worth incorporating into any itinerary.
Catamaran Charter in the Bahamas
Given that the majority of catamarans have shallow drafts, crewed catamaran charters are a highly popular choice for Bahamas vacations. As you can cruise close to the cays, guests can savor the liberating feeling of being able to jump off-board at almost any point. Whether it's to dive amid sunken shipwrecks and admire shoals of fish that shimmy through fronds of coral in a kaleidoscope of color or to dance the night away at a private island under a blanket of stars; the choice is all yours.
How Much Does It Cost To Charter a Yacht in the Bahamas?
Bahamas yacht charters are plentiful, which means there are a vast array of motor yacht and catamaran charters to suit every type of budget. The average prices for motor and sailing yacht charters in the Bahamas are as follows;
For motor yacht rentals in Bahamas, prices can range from $42,100 to $1.47m per week, plus expenses
For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Bahamas, prices can go from $30,000 to $343,476 weekly, plus expenses
Tax for Yacht Charters in the Bahamas
What is the cost of tax for yacht charters in the Bahamas? From the 1st of July 2022, a new 10% VAT rate will be levied on the total charter fee, and is applicable to all yachts cruising in Bahamian waters. The new 10% levy does not replace the current 4% cruising fee which remains payable to the Port Department.
All yachts wishing to cruise within the archipelago must now register for VAT in the Bahamas and receive a Bahamian TIN number.
Please consult your chosen yacht charter broker who will be able to offer personalized advice on VAT and any other business for your next Bahamas yacht charter.
Foreign-Flagged Yachts in US Waters
There are strict and complicated rules governing commercial yacht charters (non-private) cruising US waters, which in general means that only US-flagged yachts or US built yachts with a coastwise endorsement can conduct yacht charters in the US. Furthermore, yachts that are available for charter are considered to be "engaging in a trade" and thus ineligible for a US cruising licence. Most luxury charter yachts are also not US duty paid.
As the majority of the charter fleet are foreign-flagged yachts, Bahamas yacht charters will likely begin outside of the US, usually in the Bahamian capital of Nassau where there is a large busy international airport.
That said, it is possible to pick-up charter guests in the US so long as the yacht's next port of call is outside of US waters. This can be a good option for those wishing to meet the boat in Florida and cruise down to the Bahamas from here.
Where Should I Begin My Yacht Charter in the Bahamas?
The vast majority of yacht charters in the Bahamas embark and disembark in the country's picturesque capital Nassau , which is home to its best-known international ports, dotted with top-rung marinas all along its azure waters. The city is justly renowned for its throng of fine-dining options, boutiques, hip eateries, and casinos fringed by towering palm trees. Nassau is also conveniently located for cruising to the Exumas and beyond.
For a real respite from the crowds, it's common for yacht charter guests to embark their vessel at Marsh Harbor on the Abaco Islands , where you can trace the mesmerizing string of sandy cays that can be found here. Its shores, a serene and shimmering topaz, are perfect for dropping anchor and taking the toys for a spin.
When is the Best Time to Visit the Bahamas by Yacht?
One of the great joys of choosing a Bahamas yacht charter is that its balmy climes and shallow waters make it more or less ideal to cruise all-year-round* . But the Bahamas does have a peak season from mid-December to mid-April. The average temperatures of both Bahamian summers and winters are unsurprisingly tropical: hovering between 24-29 degrees and rarely dipping below this.
During the summertime (from May until October), guests can expect endless sunshine and some humidity, while from November until April, the Bahamas has a slightly cooler temperature and colder waters.
*However, whilst Bahamian weather is pleasingly warm all-year the islands do fall within the hurricane belt, running from June until the end of November along the US East Coast and the Caribbean. The Western Caribbean's own hurricane season usually starts from mid-September until early November.
Nevertheless, it is worth keeping in mind that hurricanes in the Bahamas are fairly infrequent, and even less so than on the US East Coast.
Marinas in the Bahamas
It is not hyperbole to say that the Bahamas offers some of the most spectacular marinas in the world: from glamorous hotspots replete with award-winning restaurants, designer stores, and buzzing beach bars, to the exquisite barefoot luxury that emanates from the less frequented.
A slew of activities is on offer here, including bonefishing, ocean fishing, dolphin watching, golfing, and snorkeling. And that's not even to mention the dizzying array of casinos, water parks, and marine reserves you can also find. Simply put, marinas in the Bahamas are simply of the finest caliber.
But which marinas are the best? Below are some charter favorites:
- Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina : the newly renovated marina at Paradise Landing close to the famous Atlantis Resort in Nassau offers a raft of 5-star amenities, wellness facilities and world-class retail outlets, not to mention exclusive restaurants and bars, alongside an on-site customs facility and slips catering to yachts up to 420ft (128m) LOA.
- Treasure Cay Beach, Marina and Golf Resort (The Abacos): well-protected deep water marina, with excellent provisioning. Features an outstanding golf course, as well a spa for an extra dose of pampering. Excursions to see the delightful water-bound pigs can also be arranged here. It offers a 164-berth capacity up to 46m.
- Green Turtle Club and Marina (The Abacos): tranquil and conveniently located to Abaco's hotspots as well as a perfect spot for beach hikes and land-based activities. Accommodates 40 berths up to 39m.
- Atlantis Marina: iconic megayacht marina featuring a protected harbor with 63 berths up to 67m. Has an extensive number of facilities including a golf course, casino, spa, water park, and more. You can also arrange swimming with dolphins excursions here.
- Emerald Bay Marina (The Exumas): large superyacht marina that has a berth capacity of 150 for yachts up to 79m. Within easy reach of many mesmerizing cays, including Cave Cay and Staniel Cay.
- Palm Cay Marina (Nassau): ideal jumping point for exploring Paradise Island and the Exumas, with state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. 194 berth capacity up to 33m.
- Highbourne Cay Marina: exclusive marina on a privately owned island, seen as the gateway to the Exumas. Accommodates up to 26 berths.
Popular Anchorages in the Bahamas
The Bahamas has jaw-dropping anchorages in abundance, flecked all along the 590-mile-long archipelago.
In the Exumas , you must cruise towards Leaf Cay to meet the colony of stocky but amiable Iguanas who call it home. You won't miss them: they'll be ready and waiting to greet you when you drop anchor. You should also pay a visit to Staniel Cay, where the famed Thunderball Grotto ( named after the 1965 James Bond film) is located, to see a cave illuminated by light and flourishes of angelfish. Closeby, you'll find Big Major Cay's swimming pigs, who have a seemingly never-ending capacity for treats, and Shroud Cay's sea turtles contently floating amid a dramatic underwater backdrop. Simply put, it's a wildlife lover's paradise.
In the Abacos, head south to the isolated Great Guana Cay and spend an afternoon snorkeling around the marine park, or alternatively, head straight to its golf course. Further north, you'll find Green Turtle Cay : where fishing boats stand charmingly in front of timber houses in a perfectly graduated shade of pastels. Swimming pigs (yes, there's even more here!) are located in nearby Noname Cay . And last but not least, bathe in the calm, warm shores of Treasure Cay, where you will find some of the best beaches in the world.
Elsewhere, other popular anchorages include those in Eleuthera , an island steeped in cultural significance but manages to retain its erstwhile charm. Set towards St. George's Cay to drink up the peaceful ambiance of Spanish Wells beach and meander the historic Governor's Harbor.

- Nassau Lyndon-Pindling International Airport: best for charters starting in vibrant Nassau, as it is conveniently located to the docks of many world-class marinas and can be a quick tender ride from the airport.
- Georgetown, Great Exuma Airport : ideally located to reach the world-famous swimming pigs in the Exumas. Daily international flights are available.

- Marsh Harbor International Airport: ideal for charters commencing on the crystal clear shores of Abacos, being only 7.9km away.

Booking Advice from the Experts
We strongly recommend booking with your yacht charter broker at least three to six months in advance, as the Bahamas is a highly popular Caribbean luxury yacht charter destination. By doing so, you will increase the likelihood of securing your preferred dates and you will have a greater selection of yachts on offer to choose from.
This also ensures your broker has enough time to craft a personalized itinerary and secure a berth at a popular marina.
Local Insight
- Keep in mind that the endless sunshine from mid-December until April attracts a high number of visitors to this idyllic location, and this is when the Bahamas is usually at its busiest.
- New Providence Island (where Nassau and the extraordinary Atlantis Resort and Marina are situated) tends to be heaving with cruise ships. If you are looking for a calmer charter, this is worth taking into consideration.
- Weather conditions and wind strength play a crucial role in anchorage spots in the Bahamas, so plan any overnight anchorages accordingly.
- Some anchorages can be a bit of a challenge to set: it's common for heavy grass to cover a large section of some of the better spots to drop anchor
- Anchorages that appear to have a sandy bottom can oftentimes be just a thin layer of sand over a coral reef or rock, making it difficult to dig the anchor in. Don't be misled by them!
Most Popular Superyacht Hotspots in the Bahamas
In the north of the archipelago you'll find the Abacos : widely considered to be the boating capital of the Bahamas thanks to its unique geography. Epitomising laid-back Bahamian living, an Abacos yacht charter is ideal for those in search of stillness and solitude. Soak up its subtle alchemy at the vast 2,100 marine reserve in Pelican Cay, fringed by blossoming coral, tame sea turtles, and dancing angelfish, or explore the superb surfing opportunities at Fowl Cays . For a journey through vivid color, pass a leisurely morning in nearby Hope Tow n, admiring crayon-hued Bahamian architecture and Elbow Cay's candy-striped lighthouse whilst drinking in their unpretentious ambiance.
After an afternoon spent floating on a late-summer heat haze, further on to Green Turtle Cay and sip on that famous Bahamian cocktail, the Goombay Smash, by a seafront taverna as the sun casts a peachy glow. Of course, no visit to the Abacos would be complete without a trip to the acclaimed Treasure Cay Beach : its milky white sands and cyan shallows see it routinely end up on the world's most beautiful beaches list.
Home to 365 cays, days here could easily drift by diving off burnished rocks until the sun slowly slinks away. Life truly does revolve around the water in the Exumas, so think every watersport you could possibly imagine is a go here. Plus, it's the perfect shallow cruising ground for yacht charters, with no cruise ships in sight making it a discerning choice for those looking for repose.
Sailing towards Big Major's Cay is love at first sight for most: it's where you will find Pig Beach , and its utterly charming piggies gliding surprisingly effortlessly across the water. Nearby, plunge into the sea with nurse sharks at Compass Cay before ending the day sauntering along the remote Three Sisters Beach as the sunsets. Whilst you are here, go onshore and absorb Bahamian culture to its fullest in Georgetown.

An Eleuthera yacht charter has come to encapsulate the island's name, which in Greek means 'freedom'. Secluded, slender, and over 100 miles long, Eleuthera is unquestionably the prettiest out of the Out Islands, fully earning its name as the Nantucket of the Caribbean. With the island's soft, salmon-colored sandy beaches and pastel-painted houses set among pineapple fields, it's hard not to become infatuated by its perfectly-packaged tropical charms.
Make sure you also visit the historic capital Governor's Harbor and the verdant Hatchet Bay whilst you are cruising its unspoiled shores.
Harbour Island
Situated in the northwest of Eleuthera, Harbor Island is renowned for its astonishing Pink Sand Beach , which gets its unique rosy hue from the presence of millions of tiny crushed coral seashells. Packing a powerful punch to the senses, this seemingly endless stretch of sand which is cool-to-the-touch (and ideal for barefoot walking) extends over three miles and adored by the well-heeled. And you'll understand in an instant why when you visit. Languid afternoons spent upon its long arc of soft sugar-textured sand, hugged by pale-blue waters and bathed in golden light will linger long in your memory.
But that's not all Harbor Island has to offer. It would be remiss not to mention Harbor Island's lively night scene, and the number of sophisticated boutiques huddled here: with Dunmore Town the ultimate go-to destination for designer wear.

Chartering in the Bahamas, a Destination for Every Season
The Bahamas are a year-round yacht charter destination with weather patterns that closely mirror South Florida, making for an incredible climate for vacationing with a boat charter. Bahamas winters are cooler than the rest of the Caribbean, and temperatures can occasionally drop to the mid-to-low 60s, especially between December and February. Late spring and early summer have the best weather for boat rentals, with warm temperatures, calmer waters, sunny skies, and fair winds.
Bahamas Crewed Motor Yacht Charters
Chartering your own private motor yacht is the best way to see the islands of the Bahamas. Crewed motor yachts are the perfect way to island-hop, seeing as many attractions as possible and then relaxing offshore to enjoy water sports and beachside activities. Motor boats are the most popular type of yacht charter in the Bahamas. Crewed motor yachts also carry a wide range of recreational gear, from wakeboards and standup paddleboards to kayaks and Jet Skis, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Bahamas daydreams conjure up images of lounging in the sun, and with a chartered catamaran, you can make the dream a reality on your own portable island! These wide-bodied vessels offer generous deck space and are more stable than motor yachts. What better way for both the sun-worshipper and the avid snorkeler to explore the reefs and sea life? With well-appointed living conditions, catamaran charters are perfect not only for the first-time sailor but for anyone wishing to relax with plenty of room to spread out.

Here, you can swim with the pigs at Pig Beach on Big Major Cay or swim with nurse sharks at Compass Cay: They’ll be so close you can touch them!
The Exuma’s protected waters also offer a calm location to paddleboard, kayak, and Jet Ski around the islands. Don’t forget to visit Staniel Cay and nearby Thunderball Grotto! Once dubbed “The Republic of Pirates,” Nassau today features world-class marinas, upscale hotels, resorts, and golf courses. In addition, it is also a great destination on its own, with beautiful beaches and great snorkeling
The Atlantis
The famed Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island is a world of its own, offering spas, world-class restaurants, nightclubs, and more! Snorkel alongside tropical fish in the man-made Ruins of Atlantis, stroll the bottom of the shark exhibit, feed stingrays in the lagoon, or just relax at one of 11 different swimming pools.

With architecture inspired by British settlers, Eleuthera is a casual island of rocky bluffs and low-lying wetlands with magnificent coral reef backdrops. Eleuthera’s beaches are world-famous. Surfer’s Beach is just two miles south of Gregory Town, where southwest winds blow breaks in from the Atlantic. It’s a surfing and kite-surfing mecca! Even if you just want to watch, the two-mile stretch of beach has some of the best sugary-soft white sand in the Bahamas.
Harbour Island
Northwest of Eleuthera lies Harbour Island, which was named by Travel + Leisure magazine as “the best island in the Caribbean” not once but twice. Known for its romantic pink-sand beaches, upscale shore-side accommodations, and picturesque scenery, Harbour Island offers plenty for charter guests to explore.
Located just south of Miami, the two main islands, Great Abaco and Little Abaco, as well as picturesque cays offer the adventurer truly incredible beaches and plenty to do, from deep-sea fishing to snorkeling in six amazing national parks. This is the boating capital of the Bahamas, and sailing on a luxury yacht through its mangrove-covered islands and cays will leave you with the quintessential Caribbean memory.
Bahamas Yacht Charters: What To See & Do
The Bahamas is one of the world’s most revered destinations for yacht rentals. The Bahamas are a paradise of postcard-worthy beaches, beautiful tropical weather, and amazing island adventures.
Some of the Greatest Beaches in the World
The beaches of the Bahamas form such an extraordinary collection of sand and warm turquoise waters that astronauts have praised them from space.
Whether you’d like to swim or snorkel, truly relax on a deserted beach, or head to the waves for some water sports, the Bahamas has plenty of stretches of sand for fun and adventure. Favorites include Pig Beach on Big Major Cay, Dean’s Blue Hole in the Exumas, Rose Island near Nassau, Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island, Surfer’s Beach on Eleuthera, and Guana Cay and Tahiti Beach in the Abacos.
When you think you’ve tried them all, find your own deserted stretch of sand along an unnamed island to enjoy sunset cocktails or even a private beach picnic.
Crystal-Clear, Aquamarine Waters
The waters of the Bahamas are bathwater-warm year-round, hovering in the low 80s most of the year. Yet beyond their beckoning warmth, they’re also the clearest in all of the Caribbean. Expect 100-foot visibility in most seasons. That makes this the perfect destination for a cruising adventure. Whether you’d like to explore the vibrant and colorful corals, swim with sharks, or dive a blue hole, the islands’ inviting waters are the perfect setting.
Amazing Marine Life
The waters of the Bahamas boast a variety of marine ecosystems and an unparalleled opportunity to experience sea life. Witness massive humpbacks breaking surface waters, or swim with exotic tropical reef fish at James Bond’s Thunderball Grotto. Find world-class marlins and sailfish while deep-sea fishing in the Abacos. Stand at the bottom of the awe-inspiring shark exhibit at Atlantis, or feed stingrays in the lagoon on Paradise Island. Find Dolphin Cay and swim with dolphins at one of the largest marine habitats and animal rescue facilities in the world. With a Bahamas yacht charter, you can swim with the pigs at Pig Beach at Big Major Cay or dive into Compass Cay and get so close to nurse sharks that you can touch them!
World-Class Sporting Adventures
The warm turquoise seas of the Bahamas offer more than just wildlife. The clear, shallow waters are also the world’s largest playground. You can really do it all in the water: paddle-boarding, Jet Ski tours, kayaking hidden coves, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, and water-skiing. Plus, most crewed charter yachts include a garage of gear to help you have fun in the water.
Head to Surfer’s Beach in Eleuthera for big wintertime swells; it’s perfect for surfing or kitesurfing. Staniel Cay is a great paddleboarding and kayaking spot, thanks to its protected, calm waters. And taking a Jet Ski jaunt around the islands is always fun.
Great Golfing
Test your land legs at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island, recognized as one of the top ten resort courses in North America and the Caribbean by Golf Digest. Or set sail to Emerald Bay to play a round at its Greg Norman-designed course.

Yachts For Charter In The Bahamas
What are the best islands to explore in the Bahamas?
With over 700 islands to choose from, the Bahamas truly has something for everyone. Whether you seek adventure, are looking for unique experiences, or are just looking for a relaxing vacation, the is the place to visit.
Whether snorkeling, exploring the uninhabited cays, or enjoying a cocktail onboard, the Exumas’ crisp palette of ocean blues provides the perfect backdrop for creating memories With 365 cays extending over 100 miles, there is more than enough adventure to go around on a private yacht charter. Bahamas favorite Staniel Cay is an activity hub and a favorite destination of yachters. Across from Staniel Cay is the James Bond famous Thunderball Grotto, a great place to snorkel or scuba. Pretend to be Robinson Crusoe for the day in the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. Swim in bath-like waters with friendly sea pigs on Pig Beach. The Exumas offer a Bahamas luxury yacht charter vacation with a difference
Abaco Islands
The largely uninhabited Abaco Islands lie less than 200 miles east of South Florida, and are easily accessible by flying into Marsh Harbour. Great Abaco and Little Abaco, along with smaller barrier cays make up the island chain. They are protected by the third largest barrier reef in the world and are an excellent destination for fishing, diving and water sports. Your superyacht crew will recommend some excellent spots to visit, including Great Guana Cay, Man-O-War Cay, Spanish Cay, Green Turle Cay, and Hope Town on Elbow Cay. With similar weather to South Florida, the Abaco Islands are the perfect spot to escape with friends and family onboard a Bahamas luxury yacht charter.
You haven’t experienced a real escape until you’ve vacationed in Eleuthera, one of our all-time favorite yacht charter destinations . Simple breathtaking views are the norm, deserted expanses of white- or pink-sand beaches are your playground, and islanders are genuinely friendly. The low-key, relax-and-relax-some-more island vacation isn’t for everyone, but when you need to recharge your batteries on a private yacht charter. Make sure to stop at Harbour Island, often called the Nantucket of the Caribbean, offering 3 miles of pink beaches. North of Eleuthera is the fishing community of Spanish Wells, which resembles a tropical New England town.
Out Islands
East of the Exumas and South of Eleuthera, the Southern Bahamas feels unspoiled by the modern world. Cat Island is dotted with relics of old Pineapple plantations from early colonial times. Cat Island is also home to the highest point in the Bahamas complete with a stone abbey hermitage at the peak. South of Cat Island, San Salvador rises up out of the ocean – the location of Christopher Columbus’ landfall. San Salvador is surrounded by a steep drop off of the ocean floor, perfect for fishing and diving. The Out Islands are begging to be explored by the adventurous or those who want to just get away from the hustle and bustle on a Bahamas luxury yacht charter.

What's in a name, a kittiwake is....
The catamaran has a special name that reflects its seagoing character.
According to Wikipedia, kittiwakes are a seabird species in the gull family Laridae. The name is derived from its call, a shrill ‘kittee-wa-aaake, kitte-wa-aaake’.
They have a white head and body, grey back, grey wings tipped with solid black, and a yellow bill. They can have either black or red legs.
In contrast to the dappled chicks of other gull species, kittiwake chicks are downy and white since they are under relatively little threat of predation, as the nests are on extremely steep cliffs. Unlike other gull chicks which wander around as soon as they can walk, kittiwake chicks instinctively sit still in the nest to avoid falling off.
Kittiwakes are coastal breeding birds ranging in the North Pacific, North Atlantic, and Arctic oceans. They are the only gull species that are exclusively cliff-nesting.

Guest Review:
“My husband and I, along with two friends, decided to charter Kittiwake and sail the Exumas. I can say without reservation it was one of the most enjoyable and restorative vacations we’ve ever taken. The new boat was ultra-comfortable and spacious, with plenty of places to curl up and read or watch the mind-blowing scenery unfold. And Kittiwake’s many amenities provided a luxurious touch. Most importantly, though, was the crew. From the moment we came onboard, the Captain and Chef took care of us in every respect. Their professionalism and commitment to our enjoyment never ceased to impress us.
There’s so much more I could say about this trip. Five out of five stars. It would be impossible to place a value on how much we loved it. We’ll be back.” ~ Dave L. and Stuart M.

A Bahamas Yacht Charter - Where to start from.
You have come to the right place to learn about options to consider on a private yacht charter in the Bahamas, what type of yacht might work best, what’s involved in choosing and booking a private yachts, and how unique your Bahamas charter can be.
Central Bahamas
Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Nassau is the quintessential Bahamas hot spot! The town of Nassau is centrally located on New Providence Island with a large International airport and major resorts. Many Bahamas charters start here for its convenience to both the Exumas and Eleuthera. Eleuthera is a Bahamian island bordering the Atlantic to the east, and it is a dream Bahamas destination. The sand is pink and the houses are painted in picture perfect bright colors. Eleuthera is warm and inviting, and one can start a vacation there or ideally start in Nassau.
Southern Bahamas
The islands of the Exumas are picture book perfect in every way and one of the most popular destinations for Bahamas yacht charters, with a typical boarding in Nassau. The beaches are beautiful, the area is secluded, and the natural wildlife is exotic and plentiful. The Exuma Land and Sea Park is part of what allows this part of the Bahamas to remain so perfect. Further south would be the Turks and Caicos which are not common for bahamas charters with few yachts based there, if any.
Northern Bahamas
The Abacos Islands are amoungst the more Northern part of the Bahamas and are a much less travelled Bahamas yacht charter destination. When you leave the quiet comfort of your charter yacht, you will be pleasantly surprised to find the warm atmosphere of the islands itself. There are smaller cays to the east and north such as Treasure Cay, Man O'War, Green Turtle, and Elbow Cay to name a few - who could resist names such as these? The Abacos, while not as popular a Bahamas yacht destination, can be an option. Freeport and Grand Bahama are much more popular for land based vacations than charters.

When to Charter in The Bahamas.
There are but a few variations to The Bahamas being a year-round yachting destination. As these islands share weather trends with southern Florida, winters are much warmer than most of the United States; however there can be an occasional cool down from time to time. The summers have a much more stable weather pattern. The waters are calm and the days are hot, with an average temperature of 85 degrees. - Type of Yacht : Different types of yachts come with varying price tags. Review the amenities of motor yachts, sailing yachts, and catamarans to find the best match for your budget and tastes.
- Duration of Charter: Longer charter durations often come with discounted rates. Evaluate your itinerary and desired length of stay to optimize your budget and maximize your time onboard.
- Seasonal Considerations: Peak charter seasons in the Bahamas, typically during winter months, may result in higher charter rates. Consider traveling during shoulder seasons or off-season to potentially secure better deals.
- Crew Gratuity: While not mandatory, tipping the crew is customary in the yachting industry. Set aside a part of your budget for crew tips, usually 10% to 20% of the rental fee, based on the service quality.
- Onshore Activities: Budget for onshore activities such as dining at local restaurants, exploring attractions, and participating in water sports or guided tours. Balancing onboard and onshore experiences ensures a well-rounded and enjoyable vacation.
- Flexibility and Negotiation: Be flexible with your travel dates and charter preferences to take advantage of last-minute deals or special offers. Negotiate with charter brokers or yacht owners to secure the best possible rate within your budget.
By considering these factors and using smart budgeting, you can enhance your Bahamas yacht charter experience while keeping within your budget.
Embarking on a yacht charter vacation in the Bahamas begins with choosing the right starting point. The islands offer several marinas that serve as perfect launch pads for your journey. Timing is also key; selecting the right season can enhance your experience, with some periods offering calmer seas and more favorable weather conditions.
Selecting the Ideal Starting Point and Season to Charter a Luxury Yacht in the Bahamas
Choosing the perfect starting point and timing for your luxury yacht charter in the Bahamas is crucial for ensuring a smooth and unforgettable experience. Here’s what you need to know:
- Marina Selection: Explore marinas across the Bahamian islands to find your fit. Nassau, near Paradise Island, is great for nightlife and amenities. For a peaceful setting, consider marinas in the Exumas or Abacos.
- Consider Seasonal Factors: The Bahamas experience different seasons, each offering unique advantages for yacht charters. The high season, from December to April, offers calm seas and sunny weather, perfect for outdoor activities. However, demand and charter rates are higher during this period.
- Summer months may bring warmer temperatures and occasional rain showers but offer quieter anchorages and potential discounts on charter rates.
- Weather Conditions: Familiarize yourself with the prevailing weather patterns and conditions in the Bahamas during your chosen season. While the area has a tropical climate, storms can occur, especially in hurricane season (June to November). Stay updated with weather forecasts and follow local advisories for a safe yacht charter.
- Customizing Your Itinerary: Customize your yacht charter destinations to enjoy unique attractions and activities based on your start point and season. Whether exploring coral reefs, relaxing on private beaches, kayaking, jet skis, scuba diving, observing iguanas, or experiencing Bahamian culture, proper planning enhances your enjoyment and optimizes your time onboard.

When is the yachting season in Bahamas?
Yachting season in the Bahamas falls between November to April, where temperatures average between 27 to 28 degrees Celsius. The islands fall under the hurricane belt, with the annual Atlantic hurricane season between June to November.
Bahamas yacht charter for a day
One of the most popular options for a full-day boat rental in the Bahamas is a luxury catamaran. Sailing luxury catamarans, in particular, are ideally suited for the sailing condition in the Bahamas. These boat options can carry guests from an intimate party of 2 to a large group of 30 guests onboard. What makes a luxury catamaran an excellent option for cruising in the Bahamas is its small draft, allowing you to go through shallow waters, which can bring you closer to secret coves and hidden beaches.
The Bahamas offers unlimited options to spend a whole day yacht charter with hundreds of islands to explore. For one of the most popular destinations in the region, Harbour Island is definitely on the top list. Only two hours from Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, Harbour Island is home to the world-famous pink sand beaches. Dubbed as the crown jewel of the Caribbean, if you only have a yacht charter for a day, then this spot is the best place to spend a few hours of your Bahamian holiday. Explore its beautiful beaches, pastel-painted cottages, and of course, marvel at the beautiful and perfectly-soft, pink sand beaches.
Another worthwhile destination in the Bahamas you shouldn't miss for a full-day luxury catamaran boat rental is the Conception Island National Park. It is home to a wide range of wildlife, from green turtles to sea birds, whale sharks, migratory birds, and reef sharks. And of course, you can also take your luxury catamaran for a full-day itinerary exploring several of the 365 cays that dot the Exumas.
Bahamas yacht charter overnight
For an overnight yacht charter in the Bahamas, head to the Exuma Islands with over 365 smaller islands around it. An overnight charter will have you sleeping on your private yacht in a bay, where the soft waves gently rock you, and you wake up to a beautiful sunrise over cerulean waters.
Depart from Georgetown, the capital of the Exuma Islands, and head to Highborne Cay, an idyllic location for an overnight stay. You can kayak and snorkel at Horseshoe Bay, with its uninhabited beach, then head over to Allan's Cay with 3-feet iguanas waiting for you at the beach. You can then spend a beautiful dinner at a hilltop restaurant with 360-degree views of this unspoiled paradise.
In the morning, head over to Norman Cay, famously home to Carlos Lehder's drug smuggling operations between 1978 and 1982. A sunken plane is now home to a wide array of colourful tropical fish and vibrant corals, perfect for diving. End the day with a sunset cruise before heading back to a Georgetown marina.
Bahamas yacht charter for a weekend
If you have three days to spare, a weekend boat charter in the Bahamas is a must. Enjoy three nights on board your very own private yacht, whether it's a luxury catamaran or a mega yacht that has all the amenities and comforts of a 5-star resort.
A weekend boat charter will allow you to explore some of the Exumas' most beautiful cays. With more than 300 cays, you'll never run out of small islands and beaches to explore. Most of the coves and beaches are uninhabited, so imagine enjoying a day out on a private piece of paradise you can call your own for the weekend. Here is a sample weekend itinerary in the Bahamas, onboard your very own boat charter:
Day 1: Highborne Cay
Spend your first day and night at Highborne Cay, where you can kayak or snorkel at Horseshoe Bay, and discover the famous "Octopus Garden" reef. You can also head out to Leaf Cay beach and enjoy dinner at a hilltop restaurant with breathtaking views of the reef below.
Day 2: Great Guana Cay
On your second day, which is Saturday, spend a full day on the island where locals welcome you at the Black Point Settlement, a quaint little town. There are friendly restaurants on the island, where you will be served traditional Bahamian cuisine and immerse yourself in the local culture. Though there are no moorings on the cay, it features a well-protected and guarded anchorage, which is considered one of the largest in the Exumas.
Day 3: Rose Island
Rose Island is located on the eastern coast of Nassau. It is a small 11-mile-long island with impressive snorkelling conditions, hidden coves, and four beautiful beaches you can choose to spend your day at. On Sundays, which is your 3rd day on board your boat rental, you can join the island's festivities, where a vibrant party scene occurs every week at the seaside restaurants and bars. Suppose you're looking for a more peaceful anchorage or experience. In that case, however, you can stay overnight at the northern side of the island before you head back and culminate your weekend yacht charter around the Exumas.
Bahamas yacht charter for a week
With so many islands, a week-long liveaboard on your yacht charter is the perfect way to explore the Bahamas. Enjoy days out in the waters anchored on secluded and protected bays, immerse yourself in the local cultures, and enjoy the natural scenery. Here is a sample one-week itinerary for your yacht charter in the Bahamas.
Day 1: Nassau
Enjoy a day out in this capital onboard your private yacht charter. It is a bustling metropolitan capital but with some of the world's most stunning beaches. Powdery white sand and crystal clear, turquoise waters are yours to enjoy, while a host of water sports activities are yours for the taking. Head out to Harbour Island on a 2-hour cruise, and anchor off the bay for the night.
Day 2 & 3: Harbor Island and Eleuthera
Spend a day visiting the town of Harbour Island, enjoy swimming and sunbathing at the pink beaches, then head your way to Eleuthera at the end of the day. On Day 3, explore Eleuthera's beauty, including the Glass Window Bridge, grottos, and diving the Cobia Fish Cage for a unique diving experience.
Day 4 & 5: Staniel Cay and Wardwick Wells
Visit Staniel Cay and the Thunderball Grotto, the most outstanding snorkelling location in the eastern Bahamas. Established as a Land and Sea Park since the 1980s, Wardwick Wells features a fantastic ecosystem and wildlife. It is home to sand dunes, rocky bluffs, mangrove creeks and features miles of hiking trails and crystal clear waters.
Day 6: Shroud Cay and Georgetown
Explore the last spot on the itinerary, which is also located within Exuma Park. It features outstanding natural beauty and pristine waters, famous for its marine life. Head to Georgetown at the end of the day and begin your journey exploring the capital of the Exuma Islands. You can either disembark here or head back to Nassau.
Wedding yacht charter in Bahamas
The Bahamas is the perfect place to have your wedding and honeymoon at the same time. You can book a yacht charter for a wedding on board or use the yacht as your transfer to a secluded, private island for your ceremony. A wedding yacht charter in the Bahamas is a unique opportunity to enjoy your special day in paradise, along with your loved ones, or for an intimate wedding ceremony with just the bride and groom. Once the party is over, you can hop back on board to explore the islands for your week-long honeymoon onboard your yacht charter.
A luxury catamaran is an excellent option for your boat charter, and it's one of the most popular boat options for wedding charters. It is a perfect choice for weddings and all kinds of events and celebrations, such as celebrating a birthday onboard, anniversary, corporate party, and any type of celebration. A luxury catamaran is also a perfect choice for large groups on board, as it can usually accommodate a group of 30 onboard, sailing away on the waters of the Bahamas as you party throughout the day and enjoy a beautiful sunset as you head back to the island.
Luxury yacht charters in Bahamas
The Bahamas is one of the world's leading yacht charter destinations, and it comes as no surprise that you will find some of the world's most superior and impressive superyachts cruising its waters. Most of these luxury yachts are available for charter, and all you have to do is choose one for your full-day, overnight, weekend, or week-long Bahamas escapade. As you sail from one island to another, not only will you experience onboard comforts and luxuries, you'll also be pampered by the yacht's dedicated staff and crew that can include a private chef, masseuse, fitness trainer, and more.
To give you an example of what a luxury yacht charter in the Bahamas looks like, here are a few features of a mega yacht that you can rent. A 270-foot yacht that costs around $600,000 for a full-week itinerary sailing the islands can feature 14 dedicated staterooms that can accommodate a group of 28 adults. A boat like this will typically have 28 or more crew members, all dedicated to serving the needs of each guest. Other features included in a luxury yacht rental can consist of water toys such as water slides, jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards, and other water toys. Amenities on board a luxury yacht charter can include a Jacuzzi on deck, a swimming pool, a cinema, a massage room, sunbeds, and more. A true luxury yacht charter in the Bahamas is a 5-star experience in features, safety, services, amenities, and of course, unbelievable experiences cruising around the spectacular islands.
Choose from a week-long yacht charter or a short weekend luxury yacht charter where you have whisked away to uninhabited islands and private beaches that you can enjoy all to yourself. With marinas on every major island, spectacular natural beauty, and plenty of things to do and places to explore, a yacht charter in the Bahamas is the best way to indulge yourself on your holiday.

Charter yacht of the week: 62m Sea Owl reaches the upper echelons of family charter
Each week, we place a spotlight on the world’s finest superyachts for charter . This week, BOAT delves into the whimsical details of the 62-metre Feadship, Sea Owl …
A luxury superyacht that’s great for family charter; you may find that a huge proportion of the global fleet could cater to this, but there are a few that remain head and shoulders above the rest.
Sea Owl is one of those yachts. With whimsical interiors filled with fairy tale murals, a cosy fireplace and brilliantly themed cabins, Winch Design did a sensational job of making Sea Owl a magical place for the whole family. The interiors have been inspired by fairy tales and scholarly books including Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland, while pirate themes and ornate features run through the yacht. At the time of commission, the designers worked closely with the owner’s family members to personalise each room and encourage the children to explore real and imaginary worlds.
The luxury charter yacht’s huge volume was also an important factor in the project’s success. Speaking about her design, Andrew Winch of Winch Design said that Sea Owl was among the most intricate projects he’d handled at that time. The sheer level of detail on board, including features such as a silk and wool carpet hand-knotted in Nepal, a Dale Chihuly chandelier made of Venetian glass and a basin carved like a gem from a single block of crystal, added to the complexity.
But it’s not just the aesthetics that place Sea Owl firmly in the family category. Every yacht for charter has strong security to keep all charterers, guests and crew safe on board. But for the original owners of Sea Owl , safety was of the utmost importance and the 62-metre yacht's systems are state of the art, with 360-degree cameras at the waterline and fingerprint-recognition keypads. Consultants worked closely with the shipyard up to the last few days before delivery, and while the effective and discreet system does not distract from the magic of the décor, it is one of the safest superyachts on the water.

Stepping on board, the full-beam main saloon is a good way to grasp Sea Owl' s splendour. Decorated in light, neutral colours, the sumptuous furnishings have an antique feel, but are less olde-worlde and more mesmerising and elegant in style. The space is flanked by large windows and opening sliding glass doors aft. Taking pride of place is a spectacular baby grand Steinway.
Dining space on board comes with an array of options, both out on deck and inside. The main dining table is set in front of a Venetian fresco and sits under a stunning Dale Chihuly Venetian glass chandelier.
On the lower deck is a pirate-themed room; next to this is another cabin with scenes from Alice in Wonderland . On the sun deck, a toothy shark grins down from the walls of a freshwater spa pool. As you walk around the charter yacht, more murals and pops of colour bring the themed approach alive.
The sun deck is partially enclosed to create a light-filled dining saloon with an adjacent pantry. The yacht also has a full-beam sky lounge that doubles as a movie theatre for cosy nights watching Peter Pan .
Life on board Sea Owl
Accommodation on board is for 12 guests across seven cabins comprising a master suite, three VIP suites, two children’s twins and a nanny or staff cabin. All guest cabins have en suite bathrooms and these are beautifully designed to fit the rest of the yacht’s theme. The owner's suite has its own office and lies behind closed doors. Its centrepiece is an exquisite copy of an 18th-century French desk by French furniture designer Serge Mirochnikoff, who created several other special pieces on board.
The central stairway features a mural, carved from Peruvian mahogany, of a magical tree. It rises four decks high in one continuous design, the roots grounded in the lower deck’s sole and the branches reaching out to the sun deck.
For those who want to keep up with the fitness regime, there is a well-stocked and spacious gym on board. For those who wish to learn while at sea, there's even a classroom with a fold-out balcony.
