Boat of the Week: Inside ‘Secret,’ the Lavish 271-Foot Superyacht Owned by Walmart Heiress Nancy Walton Laurie
Walmart heiress nancy walton laurie's 271-footer has an eclectic interior of black and gold, along with splashes of red, as well as other, well, secrets., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

It would take the sale of approximately 5.75 million HP ink cartridges to fund the $92 million purchase of superyacht Secret , currently listed for sale with Burgess. The ink cartridges were one of Walmart’s top-selling products in 2021, and might well have contributed to a successful year of yachting for Secret ’s owner, Walmart heiress and philanthropist Nancy Walton Laurie.

As the largest yacht on display at last month’s MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona, and one of three yachts reportedly owned by Laurie, the 271-foot beauty built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2013 provides some insight into the family’s tastes and preferences.
The main salon’s bold color scheme by interior designer Jim Harris mixes pillar-box red sofas and carpets with ornate gold wall art. It’s a brave step change from the neutral beige and gray tones often selected by owners, typically with resale value in mind.

The designers also moved the formal dining room to the upper deck, leaving a large entertaining space to watch sports and socialize. A monochrome marble bar with a glass backdrop, views to the main deck aft and an onboard mixologist all help to set the tone. When it comes onboard socializing, Secret pulls no punches.
Guests arrive via the lower deck beach club or the main deck side entrance, where luggage can be ushered into the color-coded lower deck guest cabins. There are some unusual perks to being a guest aboard Secret . Heated bathroom floors feature across all guest suites, while guest mattresses are singles that zip together into doubles for greater flexibility.
The upper-deck, full-beam master suite, named Chanel to reflect the black-and-champagne silk color scheme, is highly personalized. Separate his and her en suites have their own amenities: Hers has a full-sized bath, and his has higher countertops to accommodate former basketball player and owner Bill Laurie’s 6’ 4” height. Both have steam showers. The private office is considerably smaller than the VIP office to accommodate the owner’s request for an oversized walk-in wardrobe.
The most surprising area on board is the “Valentina” main deck VIP guest suite, named after the Valentina-inspired white spiked headboard. The master has sea views and a private terrace, but the full-beam VIP, decorated and claimed by Laurie’s adult daughter when her family is on board, is arguably the superior option. It shares the same footprint as the master but enjoys a greater attention to detail. The ensuite, decorated in black-and-white stripes, has two day heads—one with bidet—and a central wet room fitted with a shower and full-sized bathtub.
The monochrome décor is echoed throughout the yacht, from the upper-deck sky lounge to the guest hallways. In the 12-person cinema, red Porsche leather armchairs are mirrored in the leather ceiling panels. The dedicated treatment room enjoys an onboard beautician and masseuse who specializes in hot Swedish massage.
A glass elevator connects the lower deck to the bridge deck, where an indoor glass-fronted gym and outdoor pool are located. For sundown soaks, the sun deck Jacuzzi ticks the box.
The regal salon. Courtesy Burgess
Last refitted in 2018, the yacht started out life at 256 feet, with an additional 16 feet added to accommodate the owner’s choice of an aft deck dining table. It’s the preferred space to enjoy buffet-style breakfasts, protected from view by high bulwarks. Further al fresco dining for 14 people is available on the lower deck beach club, where a “dining under the stars” themed evening sees guests enjoy meals at the water’s edge beneath a blanket of twinkling LEDs and real constellations above.
For families and guests with a competitive spirit, the beach club, equipped with changing rooms and rain showers, is the center of watersports action. A serious collection of toys, including kneeboards, flyboards, trampolines and towables are matched by an inflatable assault course erected by the crew for “Sports Olympics.” The addition of a female water-sports instructor has proven popular with charter guests. When the weather’s bad, the karaoke system comes to the rescue.
The main dining area was moved to the upper deck for a view and access to the outdoors. Courtesy Burgess
It’s no secret that smaller yachts in the 190-foot size range are proving more popular on the global charter market at present, preferred for their ability to access smaller ports and anchor close to shore. But Secret pulls out all the stops for guests looking to enjoy time aboard a yacht maxed out with amenities and personality, provided in a covert setting. All in all, definitely worth the printer cartridges.

The Ultra-Lux Walmart Superyacht is the Biggest Yacht Built in U.S.
By: Scott Way
The Walton family are heirs to the Walmart empire, and as you might expect the luxury runs deep considering their multi-billion dollar generational wealth.
Case in point: Nancy Walton Laurie, niece of Walmart founder Sam Walton, put her 270-foot (82 m) superyacht Secret on the market for $98 million in early 2022. Her sister Ann Walton Kroenke, meanwhile, elected to refit their yacht Aquila , rather than sell it, and turn it into an unreal mega-machine with a $150 million pricetag.
According to Boat International , Aquila was purchased by Ann Walton and her husband Stan Kroenke (owner of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, and the Denver Nuggets of the NBA), in 2015 and immediately went into a refit. The boat is the largest yacht built in the U.S, and was first commissioned 20 years ago by Derecktor Shipyard under the name Cakewalk before being sold to the Walton family and changed to Aquila . The word aquila , if you're curious, is the Latin word for "eagle." Derecktor has facilities in Maine, New York and Florida (most superyachts are built in Europe, specifically Italy and the Netherlands).
As for the refit, it took 18 months to complete and was done by the Pendennis shipyard in Spain. The extensive overhaul helped land Aquila a 2017 World Superyacht Award for 'Best Refitted Yacht.' Interesting category.
The Waltons added numerous ultra-lux details during the refit. Some of the biggest standouts include an actual bar named 'The London Bar', a nightclub that features smoke machines, a light system, and a DJ booth, as well as a complete movie theater, and a 36-foot waterwall chandelier that cascades down all four decks of the boat.
Because why not?
Other premium amenities include two massage rooms, a complete gym, hair salon, office space, and a jacuzzi. The master suite includes its own 60 square metre (645 sq ft) private deck. Six guest cabins can host up to 12 guests, and there is somehow enough room for 28 crew as well.
She's a decent cruiser too, with twin MTU diesel engines that provide a max range of 5000 nautical miles and a top speed of 17 knots (19.5 mph).
You can even charter the Aquila , provided you're ok with a $1 million/week rate. You can make your reservation here .

A superyacht owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie attracted attention recently after being spotted in Miami, Florida.
A TikToker posted a video of "Kaos," Walton Laurie's 361-foot luxury yacht, as it was moored outside her "front door."
"Oh wow, this thing is huge," Bridget Brick says in the video, adding that the yacht "looks like a small city."
@bridgetbrix Never a dull day in Miami, as another, mega yacht pulls up outside my front door. Did you know it’s easy to look up any information about a yacht? Walton Laurie, worth $7.5 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index , is the youngest daughter of Walmart co-founder James "Bud" Walton. She inherited her father's stake in the company when he died in 1995.
According to Bloomberg , she has a stake of less than 5% in Walmart, with the rest of the family's holding controlled by her sister, Ann Walton Kroenke.
Walton Laurie is the founder of a New York-based dance group called the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. She also owns a dance studio located in Columbia, Missouri called the Columbia Performing Arts Centre.

According to Yacht Bible , Kaos has four decks and room for 31 guests as well as 45 crew, with the largest deck boasting a swimming pool and even an aquarium.
It also has a large cinema, sauna, and full spa facilities, the site says.

"Kaos" was previously named "Al Menwar" by the House of Thani, the Qatari royal family, per the Yacht Bible.

US alleges sanctioned Russian oligarch’s niece made payments for his $300M yacht
The yacht, known as the Amadea, was seized by officials in 2022, with the U.S. alleging billionaire Putin ally Suleiman Kerimov is the ultimate beneficial owner.
U.S. authorities claim to be one step closer to proving a seized $300 million mega yacht is owned by sanctioned Russian Suleiman Kerimov, according to new court filings that detail alleged payments for the boat from the oligarch’s niece.
The yacht, a 348-foot luxury vessel known as Amadea, was seized in Fiji in 2022 by local officials at the request of the United States, as part of the Justice Department’s ongoing efforts to identify and seize assets of sanctioned Russian oligarchs in the wake of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Kerimov, known for throwing lavish parties and for his reportedly close relationship with Vladimir Putin, was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2018. Britain and the European Union later followed suit.

However, since the Amadea’s seizure, another Russian oligarch, Eduard Khudainatov, who is not currently under U.S. sanctions, has claimed to be the yacht’s rightful owner — an assertion U.S. authorities deny.
Prosecutors allege that new documents show Kerimov’s niece, Alisa Gadzhieva, entered into a loan agreement with the company that owns the yacht, Errigal Marine Limited, and then made two payments to Khudainatov’s holding company, Invest International Finance Ltd, Intelligence Online reported .
“The United States takes sanction evasion seriously and will use all tools at its disposal to ensure that sanctioned individuals are held accountable for their crimes,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in an earlier statement .
The ship belongs to an array of high-value luxury items linked to Kerimov, including private jets and sportscars, like a $650,000 Ferrari that Kerimov totaled in a fiery crash on the French Riviera in 2006.

The yacht’s seizure followed ICIJ’s Pandora Papers, which included revelations on the offshore financial empire of Kerimov and his closest associates. The investigation showed billions of dollars flowing through opaque offshore shell companies associated with Kerimov, and covert money flows tied to oligarchs and others close to the Kremlin. It also highlighted offshore professionals who have helped oligarchs secretly buy luxury assets like yachts and jets.
Gadzhieva’s brother, Kerimov’s nephew Nariman Gadzhiev, is also under U.S. sanctions for allegedly serving as an assistant and financial facilitator for Kerimov. ICIJ’s reporting showed that, in 2012, a firm registered in Gadzhiev’s name worked with Credit Suisse to secure a $67 million loan for the acquisition of a custom-built Boeing 737 Business Jet as well as a Bombardier Global Express jet. A few years later, an article in Forbes Russia described Kerimov as owning the same kind of Boeing jet.
The Amadea, which is currently in U.S. custody, has already cost over $7 million in taxpayer funds to maintain while the legal battle plays out, The Guardian reported.

There are some luxury yachts that make their presence known the moment they arrive in their cruising ground… and yet remain a complete enigma to onlookers: German shipyard Lürssen is notorious for keeping its builds secret throughout production, while some Owners are waiting for the right moment to capture the world’s attention.

As the Monaco Yacht Show and other major yachting industry events approach, so too does the anticipation of fresh information on these mysterious motor yachts. And sometimes – but not always – followers are rewarded with a glimpse of the luscious interiors and life on board. From current launches to long-established names, these are 10 of the world’s most secretive superyachts.
2015-built mega yacht DILBAR is the world’s 5th largest motor yacht and drone footage at marinas reveals just how much other luxury yachts are dwarfed by her 156m/512ft size. Yet despite her imposing presence, few details have been made public about life on board.
Mega yacht Dilbar
What is known is that Espen Oeino designed her beautiful ivory white exteriors that are accented by teak decks and bronze accessories. Two helipads are located on the sundeck aft and foredeck, and a 25m/82ft swimming pool is also on board.
The accommodation provides for 36 guests across 20 en-suite cabins, all serviced by a crew of up to 96.
On paper her technical specs boast an impressive beam of 23m/75ft as well as 3,800m2/40,902ft2 of space dedicated to the Owner and guests as part of an interior volume of 15,917 GT, which makes her the largest yacht by volume for private use. It is also believed that there is a lower deck and tank deck hidden below the waterline due to her draft of 6m/19.8ft
30,000kw diesel-electric engines allow her to reach a top speed of 22.5 knots, allowing her to make excellent time from one location to the next through the Mediterranean cruising grounds .
147m/482ft mega yacht A+ (ex.Topaz) from 2012 still holds the no. 8 spot within the world’s largest motor yacht rankings and remains almost as mysterious as motor yacht DILBAR: The exterior styling comes from Tim Heywood while the interiors are the work of Terence Disdale – two prestigious names within the luxury yachting industry associated with quality.

Her wide beam of 21.5m/70.5ft makes for spacious guest cabins for up to 64 guests, who have at their disposal a Jacuzzi, swimming pool, helipad and gym as well as myriad indoor and outdoor lounges as well as sunbathing areas.
Launched in 2019, 135m/442.9ft motor yacht CRESCENT (ex.PROJECT THUNDER) from Lürssen is on the cutting edge of technology and has attracted the eyes of luxury yacht aficionados and curious holidaymakers by her sheer size, stately black hull and on-trend raked bow. Espen Oeino designed the exterior while Zuretti Interior Design produced the atmospheric indoors surroundings, among which is a two-tier atrium amidships that has full-height windows. There are two helipads on board and the one located on the upper deck has its own hangar.
Mega yacht Crescent
Another prestigious and enigmatic luxury yacht from Lürssen is the 2017-launched AL LUSAIL , measuring 123m/403.5ft and boasting the naval architecture and exterior styling of British studio H2 Yacht Design and interiors from March & White. A raked bow and curving aluminium superstructure give her a unique appearance that fuses together the appearance of the decks.

The sleek and sophisticated Abeking & Rasmussen luxury yacht EXCELLENCE was launched and delivered in 2019 and while her side-on profile is certainly modern sophistication – her two-tier glass panels are just one understated element of her design – it’s the view of the simple and clean lines from flying overhead that show her true beauty. With exterior lines by Winch Design , the engineering to make these glass panels seamless is the work of the shipyard’s engineering team.

The wealth of amenities on board includes a main deck aft swimming pool, an Owner’s aft deck Jacuzzi, a sundeck Jacuzzi and a tender garage close to the water containing the limousine tenders.
She is expected to make an appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019 (25-28 September) and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2019 (30 October – 3 November), where more details may be revealed.
77.3m/253.5ft superyacht SYZYGY 818 (ex.PROJECT 818) from Feadship was launched in June 2019 and therefore one of the newest yachts on this list. The exterior styling comes from designer Jarkko Jämsén while the interiors are the work of Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design .

The name refers to an astrological event when three celestial bodies align such as a lunar or solar eclipse, while the number 818 refers to the Owner’s birthday on the 18th of August.
From Nobiskrug comes 80m/262ft superyacht ARTEFACT , one of the first luxury yachts to be built to IMO Tier III emissions regulations and designed for a technologically-minded Owner who wanted to minimise their environmental impact. The irregular shapes of the large windows in the hull are instantly recognisable, and in some sections the glass exterior spans across three decks. Gregory C. Marshall produced the exterior styling, while the interiors are the work of Reymond Langton Design . More information is expected to be released at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019.

Project Lightning
This secretive build from Lürssen has been scant on details from the start, however what is known is that 130m/427ft mega yacht PROJECT LIGHTNING is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and contains a beach club with a spa, a Jacuzzi, barbeque and foredeck and sundeck aft helipads.

Lürssen has had a busy year so far and 95m/312ft superyacht MADSUMMER was spotted recently on her maiden voyage in the Western Mediterranean . Harrison Eidsgaard and Laura Sessa Design worked on her exterior and interior styling respectively.

On board is a 12m/39ft swimming pool, a spa and Jacuzzi, plus a helipad on the bow. The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 20 guests over 10 spacious en-suite staterooms.
The final yacht on this list is another launch from 2019: Benetti flagship mega yacht IJE . At 108m/354ft there is plenty of room on board for guest amenities, including a sizable selection of tenders and water toys which include eight jet skis.

The naval architecture comes from Pierluigi Ausonio and the exteriors from RWD are furnished with a 1.5m/4.9ft fire pit on the bridge deck, a private alfresco dining area on the Owner’s deck and additional dining for the group on the main deck.
The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 22 guests and a crew of 29 will ensure that everyone on board receives first-class service.
M/Y IJE draws on 345,000 litre fuel tanks and uses a pair of MTU engines each of 2,880 kW to travel at a top speed of 18.5 knots and cover up to 6,500 nautical miles.
Her interiors were styled by Benetti and have yet to be revealed.

Visiting Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan in Russia
Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan and the 6th largest city of Russia . It officially bears the title of the “Third Capital of Russia” due to its rich cultural and historical heritage. It also serves as the Capital of Tatarstan. Furthermore, this beautiful city is on the banks of the Volga River and Kazanka River. It is noted for its centuries-old religious tolerance. So, the Cathedral of all Religions is a true example of its religious harmony. Nearly half of its residents are ethnic Tatars. So a visit allows you to experience the unique foods and traditions of Tatar culture.
How to Get To Kazan Russia
Kazan is located about 800 km east of Moscow and easily accessible by train. Although, we reached there from Novosibirsk and after visiting it went to Moscow. While Vosstanie-Passazhirskaya is the name of the train station that mainly serves Kazan city. Whereas you can book your train ticket from the Russian Railway Website .
Kazan has one international airport that operates several domestic as well as a few international flights. The airport is about 25km from the city center. Further, you can reach the city center by bus, Train or Taxi.
To go to Kazan in your own car is another way. From Moscow, you can follow the M7 route to reach Kazan in around 12 hours. Whereas from Perm, you can follow the E22 route to reach Kazan.
How to Get Around Kazan Russia
The transportation system of Kazan city composes of trains, buses, trolleybuses, and taxis. The fare of one ride is 25 Rubles.
- Most of the attractions of Kazan city can be visited on foot. Especially you can visit the most of city attreactions at the area from Kazan Kremlin to Millenium Park via Bauman street .
- Kazan subway is a more convenient way to getaround the city of Kazan into Russia. It is listed among Guinness World Records as the shortest metro system in the world. Kazan Subway has 5 stations and one can get from one end to another for 10 minutes.
- Lat but not the least, Taxis in Kazan are also affordable. Therefore, you can call a taxi by using Yandex Taxi App.
Where to Stay in KAzan Russia
You can book a dormitory bed in the city center Hostel for under $10. You can find a good hostel from a large number of hostels around Bauman Street. I have booked with People Hostel for my short stay in Kazan. Besides, it was very near to Kazan Kremlin.
Initially, we had a plan to visit Kazan as a day trip while going from Novosibirsk to Moscow on our long Trans Siberian Train Route. However, due to a change in our plan, we have to cancel our next ride to Moscow and consequently opt for air travel from Kazan. So, we decided to take a little rest while our stay in Kazan.
Places to see in KAzan Russia
I regretted that I have only one day for this fairytale city. Due to some unforeseen reasons, I have to shorter my original plan. So, I have left Kazan City in such a way that seems I never came to this city. This city has abundant sights with a rich historical background that it can offer to its tourists. I spent my day while walking from one point to another. So, I decided to start my day at Kazan Kremlin.
Kazan Kremlin
I left my luggage at my hostel and came out for my day’s tour to Kazan City. I followed the Bulak Cannel and took my way toward Kazan Kremlin. After a few minute’s walk, I passed beside the Pyramid Cheops hotel(Piramida Kheopsa). It was a beautiful Hotel with Egyptian themes. Finally, I crossed Levo Buachava Street and entered Kremlin Park. If you go slightly further toward Kazanka River then you can reach Kazan Circus.
Entrance to Kazan Kremlin
The entrance to Kremlin park is exotic. You can enter the park after passing through a three-step Heart lane. Here you can get a beautiful photo of the Kul Sharif Mosque from a unique angle. Here a large row of steps leads me to the Gigantic wall of the Kazan Kremlin. Now Starting from Preobrazhenskaya Tower, I passed to another unnamed tower and finally reached Taynitskaya tower. Not to mention there were a couple of Viewing platforms to watch the left side Panorama views of the city. Taynitskaya is one of the two entry points to Kazan Kremlin. Also, the Spasskaya Tower on the Southern side is the other point of entrance.
Entry Fee to Kazan Kremlin
Entry to Kazan Kremlin is free. However, you have to take an entrance ticket to one of the many inside museums. The ticket range is 150 to 300 Rubles for different Museums. However, you can take a day ticket for 700 Rubles and enjoy your day while visiting these museums. The list of inside museums is quite high. Although, some of them include
- History Museum of the state of Tatarstan
- Museum of The courtyard of the CAnyons
- Hermitage Kazan Center And Museum of Natural History of Tatarstan
- Manzeh Exhibition Hall
- Museum of Islamic Culture in Kul Sharif Mosque
- Histry Museum of Annunciation Cathedral
Kazan Kremlin from my Eyes
When I entered the Kremlin the first look of the Uphigh view was splendid. I was the three different shapes of building in my first view. That was Suvumbike Tower like a conical one, The palace Church resembles with a layer of rectangles and Presidency Palace. All these points were on my left side. On my right side were the Museum of the courtyard of canyons and Kazan Hermitage compounds.
Just after this view, the Cathedral of Annunciation popped up from the left and the Kul Sharif mosque from my right. These two buildings that were popping up from two different sides made a spellbound effect on me. The color combination and architecture were just fantastic. After then I went through the small garden that has the attraction of Monument to Kazan Kremlin Builders.
After visiting the Kremlin, I spent a little time on the eastern observation deck. From this deck, you can spot a large number of Kazan attractions beyond the Kazanka River. At the far end, you can spot the Kazan Arena, Farmers’ palace, Kazan Cathedral, and a few more.
Farmers’ Palace and Park
After spending a couple of Quality time, I head forward to Farmers’ Palace. I came out from Voskresenskaya tower which is at the east/North end of Kazan Kremlin. I have to come back along the outward of Kremlin. Here I have crossed the road and entered into the Farmers’ Palace and Park.
This Palace is a building that serves as the Ministry of agriculture and the food Republic of Tatarstan Russia. Although it is state-building even then It is a must-see place in Kazan. You can definitely admire the entrance that reflects the objective of the building and office. After its construction in 2008, this building has quickly become one of the city’s most famous modern landmarks.
Cathedrals of Kazan City
Now I took the Southern route and my next stop was a couple of Blue and White cathedrals. The first one was the Church of the Great Martyr that was just beside the Farmers’ palace. You have to take a left turn while going back to Kazan Kremlin Road. It is a stone church that is related to Saint Paraskeva. It is an old church that was restored and partly rebuilt in 1904.
The second one The Kazan Cathedral was even more majestic. It is as beautiful but less rated than the Kazan Cathedral of St Petersburg.
Chernoye Ozero, The Black LAke
Here I took a route to Bauman Street. On the way, I made a small detour and reached Chernoye Ozero. Chernoye means black and Ozero means lake. So, this small artificial lake is called Black Lake. There is a garden in the eastern part of this park. Its main entrance is known as the famous and romantic “lovers arch”. The park often hosts festivals and concerts here. It is also commonplace for locals to walk on the outer jogging path. You can also sit on one of the benches and read a book or just relax.
Peter and Paul Cathedral Kazan
This golden yellow cathedral painted with turquoise mosaics was a true gem in the heart of the city. We have also visited a cathedral with the same name in St Petersburg beside the Neva River. Although, its counterpart in St Petersburg is a part of the fortress. However, this one is an active prayer place and its bright colors are a feast for our eyes. Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church that was built in 1722. It was partly reconstructed in 1824-1825. While a more large-scale reconstruction took place in 1888-1890. As it was very near to Bauman Street that was my next and last stop, so, I couldn’t visit it from inside.
BAuman Street KAzan
The main pedestrian street of Kazan starts From the Kremlin and ends at the “Ploshchad Tukaya. It is a pleasant walk of about 2km. . As Kazan’s busiest pedestrian street where you’ll find the highest concentration of restaurants, cafes, monuments, and souvenir shops in the city. After visiting Peter and Paul Cathedral, I came to this historical street. You can see many fun performers in the afternoon till night. Many other prominent sub streets also make their way from BaumanStreet. One of which, the Musa Jalil street is also a famous one among foreigners. It is the best place for lodging in Kazan too. After visiting this street, I decided to go to my Hostel.
What we missed in Kazan Russia
The first and foremost thing is that we believe we missed the whole of Kazan. This city is not for one-dayers. At least it needs three days that include a full day of Kazan Kremlin. It was a shame if we couldn’t visit the Cathedral of all religions. Besides a full day to visit Sviyazhsk is also recommended. Sviyazhsk is a beautiful island about 65km from the city center and one can reach it in one hour. Last but not the least, the Museum of Socialist life is another top attraction to see Kazan History.
