Sailing yacht ELTON (ex Lunar Mist, Cinderella II) from Trident is a 31.7m/104ft sloop-rigged vessel that was built in 1992 and last refitted in 2012. Bill Tripp was the naval architect, and her hull is constructed of composite materials to reduce her draft and increase comfort and stability on board. The accommodation sleeps a total of eight guests across four en-suite cabins, with a crew of four to provide expert service on every cruise.

The cockpit aft of amidships provides a comfortable place for guests to unwind in the sunshine or under a bimini shade, and is furnished with C-shaped sofas on both sides, the port side having a large fold-out table for alfresco dining with the whole group.

Broad sunbeds are placed behind, followed by the helm controls, which also have their own canvas shelter for use in a variety of weather conditions. The stern leads down to the swim platform, where there is a swim ladder granting access to the sea. The foredeck stores the tender, and while at anchor guests can use this space for sunbathing, observation and exercise.

The lower deck hosts the guest and crew accommodation as well as the galley, with the area amidships dedicated to the lower lounge. Here, a J-shaped sofa and armchair is placed around a coffee table to port, and an L-shaped sofa and elevated table to starboard along with movable chairs. Above, there is a cosy nook to port filled with a C-shaped sofa and a table that extends outwards, perfect for coffee mornings and board games together as a family.

A pair of Kohler 27kW engines give a top speed of 12.5 knots, a cruising speed of 9 knots and a range of 1,200 nautical miles.

Yacht Charter Accommodation

While up to 12 guests can remain on board while cruising, the overnight accommodation provides for 8 guests in 4 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite and 3 double cabins. All cabins have a double bed, plenty of wardrobe space, and a skylight for plenty of natural illumination. The Master en-suite has a bathtub with bench side and shower, plus a sink and toilet. The other en-suite bathrooms have a sink, toilet and shower.

Captain - Will Lowes Growing up mostly in a Seaside town in East Kent, Will has always known what it´s like to be on a boat and to be living by the sea. After a childhood on the water and 2 years traveling Australia Will decided it was time to knuckle down and complete his courses. Will has many memorable trips but the one that always pops up first is when he ran an adventure sailing trip around the UK. With the forecast being just perfect when he arrived in Oban, W Scotland and was lucky enough to see a lot of the islands without seeing another boat but was welcomed by the incredible wildlife that congregated in that part of the world in the early summer. It´s one of his favourites to date. With a taste for adventure and the beauty of the ocean, Will can create the perfect experience for you. Deckhand - Shane Marais With a background shaped by military values and farm life, Shane is a driven Superyacht Deckhand in the making, driven by a lifelong passion for the ocean. Growing up on his family´s 1000 hectare farm in South Africa, he is no stranger to physical work. Friendly, positive and hardworking, Shane plays a pivotal role in a safe and enjoyable sailing experience Stewardess - Alissa-Christina Smith Allisa started sailing on laser picos in an after school club in Cornwall. As well as growing up sailing with her family which has given her a great sense of navigation. In her early 20s she got a job on a one of a kind 30m Italian build aluminium sloop which was captained by a very knowledgeable sailor Frank Stocker, who it transpires was influential early on in Tracy Edwards career. She was taught a lot about sailing a big boat. She has extensive sailing knowledge having travelled the world by boat and is hands on in every aspect of charter life. Chef - Sophia Kirkpatrick Sophia grew up in a food orientated family. With a mix of Indian and Sicilian heritage she has always been surrounded by diverse flavours, family recipes and food being the focal point of all occasions. She is an artistic person and after 7 years of yachting has found working in the galley an excellent way to channel that creativity in an environment she thrives in. Sophia treasures finding fresh, seasonal produce and creating both innovative and traditional dishes. After recently taking a break from yachting to work in professional kitchens ashore and to run a kitchen of her own, still always feels a calling to the sea and takes pride in being a very accomplished sailor so is always keen to pull some lines and share her wealth of knowledge there´s a spare moment in the galley.

Built by Windship Trident in 1992, with a full service in 2023 and an interior refit and new rigging in 202, at 31.7m, S/Y Elton (ex Lunar Mist, Cinderella II) offers charter guests a spacious and stylish approach to sailing.Her 2023 service included all of the yacht’s major technical components, engine, generators, bow thrusters etc, while her major refit in 2021 saw her turned into an elegant and spacious option for those seeking a luxury sailing experience.During the refit the mast was taken down and fully restored and the interior received all new upholstery, new panelling, new artwork and new linens and finishings, giving her a fresh and contemporary look. The vessel’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Tripp Design, while her timeless interior is the work of renowned superyacht designer Donald Starkey.She accommodates up to eight guests overnight with up to three crew members to ensure guests have an exquisitely comfortable and luxurious experience throughout every charter.Performance wise, a top speed of 12.5 knots and a cruising speed of 9 knots ensure relaxed sailing and excellent performance on the water, with propulsion from a diesel powered Lugger engine, with 15,000 hours to date.The aft deck serves as the perfect place for guests to unwind in the sun, with an optional Bimini when shade is required. The vessel’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Tripp Design, while her timeless interior is the work of renowned superyacht designer Donald Starkey.

The aft deck serves as the perfect place for guests to unwind in the sun, with an optional Bimini, when shade is required. There are C-shaped sofas either side and a large table for alfresco group dining.

The aft deck also features broad sun pads, which have their own canvas shelter for use in a variety of weather conditions. The stern leads down to the swim platform, where there is a swim ladder granting easy access to the ocean. The foredeck stores the tender, and whilst at anchor, guests can use this extra space for sunbathing.

The fully equipped galley and guest cabins are located below deck, with the amidships dedicated to the saloon area. The saloon features a J-shaped sofa and a comfortable armchair placed around a coffee table. The dining area consists of an L-shaped sofa, dining chairs and an elevated table, comfortably seating 8.

All cabins are en-suite and have a double bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a skylight for natural illumination. The Master en-suite has a bathtub and shower, plus a vanity and head. Four cabins accommodate as many as eight guests. She offers a master cabin with plentiful storage, closet space, and en-suite bathroom with bath tub. Additionally, she has a V.I.P. cabin and two double guest cabins, each with en-suite facilities.

Her main salon has a cozy wrap around lounge with coffee table in the middle. The dining area features L shaped lounge with high back chairs. Up on deck there are sun pads for lying out and a cockpit that offers al fresco dining with two tables and opposite facing lounges.

Lynch Yacht Sinking Off Sicily Proves as Baffling as It Is Tragic

Two months after being cleared in a bruising legal battle over fraud charges, the British tech mogul Mike Lynch celebrated his freedom with a cruise. He invited his family, friends and part of his legal team on board his luxury sailing yacht, a majestic 180-foot vessel named Bayesian after the mathematical theorem around which he had built his empire.

On Sunday night, after a tour of the Gulf of Naples, including Capri, and volcanic islands in the Eolian archipelago, the boat anchored half a mile off the Sicilian coast in Porticello, Italy. It chose a stretch of water favored by the Phoenicians thousands of years ago for its protection from the mistral wind and, in more recent times, by the yachts of tech billionaires. The boat was lit “like a Christmas tree,” local residents said, standing out against the full moon.

But about 4 a.m., calamity unfolded. A violent and fast storm hit the area with some of the strongest winds locals said they had ever felt. Fabio Cefalù, a fisherman, said he saw a flare pierce the darkness shortly after 4.

Minutes later, the yacht was underwater. Only dozens of cushions from the boat’s deck and a gigantic radar from its mast floated on the surface of the sea, fishermen said.

In all, 22 people were on board, 15 of whom were rescued. Six bodies — five passengers and the ship’s cook — had been recovered by Thursday afternoon, including that of Mr. Lynch, an Italian government official said, adding that the search was continuing for his daughter.

It was a tragic and mystifying turn of events for Mr. Lynch, 59, who had spent years seeking to clear his name and was finally inaugurating a new chapter in his life. Experts wondered how a $40 million yacht, so robust and stable could have been sunk by a storm near a port within minutes.

“It drives me insane,” said Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of the Italian Sea Group, which in 2022 bought the company, Perini, that made the Bayesian. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.”

The aura of misfortune only deepened when it emerged that Stephen Chamberlain, 52, a former vice president of finance for Mr. Lynch’s former company and a co-defendant in the fraud case, was killed two days earlier, when he was hit by a car while jogging near his house in England.

Since June, the two men had been in a jubilant mood. A jury in San Francisco had acquitted both on fraud charges that could have sent them to prison for two decades. There were hugs and tears, and they and their legal teams went for a celebratory dinner party at a restaurant in the city, said Gary S. Lincenberg, a lawyer for Mr. Chamberlain.

The sea excursion was meant as a thank-you by Mr. Lynch to those who had helped him in his legal travails. Among the guests was Christopher J. Morvillo, 59, a scion of a prominent New York family of lawyers who had represented Mr. Lynch for 12 years. He and his wife, Neda, 57, were among the missing.

So, too, was Jonathan Bloomer, 70, a veteran British insurance executive who chaired Morgan Stanley International and the insurer Hiscox.

The body of the ship’s cook, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered. All the other crew members survived. Among them was Leo Eppel, 19, of South Africa, who was on his first yacht voyage working as a deck steward, said a friend, who asked not to be identified.

Since the sinking, the recovery effort and investigation have turned the tiny port town of Porticello, a quiet enclave where older men sit bare-chested on balconies, into what feels like the set of a movie.

Helicopters have flown overhead. Ambulances have sped by with the sirens blaring. The Coast Guard has patrolled the waters off shore, within sight of a cordoned-off dock that had been turned into an emergency headquarters.

On Wednesday afternoon, a church bell tolled after the first body bag was loaded into an ambulance, a crowd watching in silence.

The survivors were sheltering in a sprawling resort near Porticello, with a view of the shipwreck spot, and had so far declined to comment.

Attilio Di Diodato, director of the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, said that the yacht had most likely been hit by a fierce “down burst” — when air generated within a thunderstorm descends rapidly — or by a waterspout , similar to a tornado over water.

He added that his agency had put out rough-sea warnings the previous evening, alerting sailors about storms and strong winds. Locals said the winds “felt like an earthquake.”

Mr. Costantino, the boat executive, said the yacht had been specifically designed for having a tall mast — the second-tallest aluminum mast in the world. He said the Bayesian was an extremely safe and secure boat that could list even to 75 degrees without capsizing.

But he said that if some of the hatches on the side and in the stern, or some of the deck doors, had been open, the boat could have taken on water and sunk. Standard procedure in such storms, he said, is to switch on the engine, lift the anchor and turn the boat into the wind, lowering the keel for extra stability, closing doors and gathering the guests in the main hall inside the deck.

12 guests occupied the yacht’s six cabins. There were also 10 crew members.

The New York Times attempted to reach the captain, James Cutfield, who had survived, for comment through social media, his brother and the management company of the yacht (which did not hire the crew), but did not make contact.

So far none of the surviving crew members have made a public statement about what happened that night.

Fabio Genco, the director of Palermo’s emergency services, who treated some of the survivors, said that the victims had recounted feeling as if the boat was being lifted, then suddenly dropped, with objects from the cabins falling on them.

The Italian Coast Guard said it had deployed a remotely operated vehicle that can prowl underwater for up to seven hours at a depth of more than 980 feet and record videos and images that they hoped would help them reconstruct the dynamics of the sinking. Such devices were used during the search and rescue operations of the Titan vessel that is believed to have imploded last summer near the wreckage of the Titanic.

After rescuers broke inside the yacht, they struggled to navigate the ropes and many pieces of furniture cluttering the vessel, said Luca Cari, a spokesman for Italy’s national firefighter corps.

Finally, as of Thursday morning, they had managed to retrieve all but one of the missing bodies, and hopes of finding the missing person alive were thin. “Can a human being be underwater for two days?” Mr. Cari asked.

What was certain was that Mr. Lynch’s death was yet another cruel twist of fate for a man who had spent years seeking to clear his name.

He earned a fortune in technology and was nicknamed Britain’s Bill Gates. But for more than a decade, he had been treated as anything but a respected tech leader.

He was accused by Hewlett-Packard, the American technological pioneer that had bought his software company, Autonomy, for $11 billion, of misleading it about his company’s worth. (Hewlett-Packard wrote down the value of the transaction by about $8.8 billion, and critics called it one of the worst deals of all time .) He had been increasingly shunned by the British establishment that he sought to break into after growing up working-class outside London.

He was extradited to San Francisco to face criminal charges, and confined to house arrest and 24-hour surveillance on his dime. In a townhouse in the Pacific Heights neighborhood — with security people he jokingly told associates were his “roommates” — he spent his mornings talking with researchers whom he funded personally on new applications for artificial intelligence. Afterward, he devoted hours to discussing legal strategy with his team.

Despite his persistent claims of innocence, even those close to Mr. Lynch had believed his odds of victory were slim. Autonomy’s chief financial officer, Sushovan Hussain, was convicted in 2018 of similar fraud charges and spent five years in prison.

During Mr. Lynch’s house arrest, his brother and mother died. His wife, Angela Bacares, frequently flew over from England, and she became a constant presence in the San Francisco courtroom during the trial.

After he was finally acquitted, Mr. Lynch had his eye on the future. “I am looking forward to returning to the U.K. and getting back to what I love most: my family and innovating in my field,” he said.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

News of the sinking left CEO of The Italian Sea Group Giovanni Costantino in ‘sadness on the one hand and disbelief on the other’.

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.

Gary King's sexual misconduct scandal risks the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
Producers failed to address the controversy, leading to potential show cancelation.

Gary King is one of the most prominent cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht , but last season's scandal might have put the hit Bravo spin-off in danger. Captain Glenn Shephard leads the crew aboard the Parsifal III, and many popular faces such as Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher, and Colin Macrae have appeared in the series. However, Gary's love triangle with Daisy and Colin is the least of his worries, given the handling of his sexual misconduct scandal.

The sexual misconduct accusations against Gary stem from an incident reported by Samantha Suarez, a makeup artist who worked on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4. According to Samantha, the incident occurred in the summer of 2022 during filming. Allegedly, Samantha escorted a heavily intoxicated Gary back to his hotel room following a confessional interview when he began behaving erratically. Samantha claimed that Gary prevented her from leaving, grabbing her from behind, which left her feeling threatened. Production should be nervous ahead of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .

Producers Should Have Spoken Out After Gary King Scandal

Their statement wasn't enough.

Producers should have spoken out after Gary's scandal with Samantha , but they didn't, adding to the controversy. While it's true that Bravo and the production team behind Below Deck issued a statement addressing the allegations , claiming that they take workplace safety seriously and that the concerns raised by Samantha were investigated, it was too little, too late.

The network failed to hold Gary accountable, especially since he was allegedly allowed to return for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, which has yet to air. The backlash against Gary has likely contributed to the slow rollout of the season , adding to the prospect of cancelation. A halfhearted statement from Bravo simply wasn't enough.

Due to of production's lack of action, the controversy surrounding Gary has put Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 in danger. Although the season was filmed, its release has been delayed, and there is speculation that it may be heavily edited to minimize Gary's presence. It's possible the entire season could get scrapped if Gary can't be edited out effectively.

Bravo Never Really Addressed The Gary Scandal

They swept it under the rug.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht producers never really addressed the Gary scandal, hoping that sweeping the accusations under the rug would make the problem go away. However, they didn't do enough damage control. Bravo producers disinvited Gary from BravoCon, adding to the probability of editing him out of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 or scrapping the season entirely.

The best thing Bravo can do now is fire Gary from the Below Deck franchise and hope to save Below Deck Sailing Yacht without him.

Gary’s future within the Below Deck franchise appears unlikely. The backlash against him has been intense, and while he has had some support from fellow cast member Daisy, it seems unlikely that he will be able to recover his reputation. His removal from BravoCon is proof that the network is distancing itself from him, but it might not be enough to save the spin-off.

This scandal has highlighted the responsibility of reality TV productions in handling misconduct. The show's production team intervened during Below Deck Down Under season 2 when a similar situation occurred, resulting in the firing of Bosun Luke Jones. Netflix's Love Is Blind 's production team has also faced accusations about the mishandling of sexual harassment, including Renee Poche's disastrous engagement to Carter Wall and Tran Dang's lawsuit.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Should Undergo a Revamp To Avoid Getting Canceled

Season 5 needs to be scrapped.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht needs a revamp if the network doesn't want the show to get canceled. If it's true that the season was filmed, production would be better off scrapping the season and starting new without Gary. While that's undoubtedly a huge loss for the network, Gary shouldn't be a featured cast member anymore . His sexual misconduct was inexcusable, and he's had issues in the past with professionalism, harassment, and alcohol abuse. Gary has been given too many chances.

If the network is unwilling to scrap Below Deck Sailing Yach t season 5 and start over, it might be time to scrap the spin-off. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are already incredibly successful, and a popular cast member like Daisy could find a home in one of the other franchises. If Bravo had come out ahead of Gary's scandal, production could have saved the Parsifal III and Captain Glenn. However, they didn't do enough to mitigate it, leading to a possible cancellation. Gary is certainly to blame.

Italian authorities say the bodies of all seven people who died after a sailing yacht sank on Monday have now been recovered. The final discovery was announced on Friday; the other six bodies had been found after the calamity.

Tech mogul Mike Lynch is among the people whose bodies were recovered from the sailing yacht, called Bayesian. The massive yacht sank in a violent storm along the shore of Sicily early on Monday.

Italian divers on Friday recovered the body of Lynch’s daughter Hannah, 18, who was the last person unaccounted for.

Lynch’s body was identified on Thursday, according to The Associated Press and other news outlets, citing the Italian coast guard. The agency did not immediately respond to messages from NPR.

The sea rescue operation included 123 dives, according to the Italian fire brigade . Robotic craft have also been used in the search.

Local newspaper Giornale di Sicilia reports that Lynch’s daughter, Hannah, 18, is believed to be the only remaining missing person from the calamity.

15 people survived the catastrophe

Bayesian, with a length of more than 180 feet, had 22 passengers and crew aboard when it sank in the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning. Eyewitness accounts cited a waterspout — a highly localized spiraling storm that’s essentially a marine tornado. One body was found, and 15 survivors made it to safety. That left six people unaccounted for.

Since then, the Italian Coast Guard has been working to find survivors -- and as time passed, what started as a rescue effort became a recovery operation to retrieve bodies from inside the sunken ship.

The Palermo Coast Guard told NPR that the operation has been complicated by the depth and position of the hull, which lies on the seabed at a depth of around 50 meters, about a half-mile from the port in Porticello, Sicily.

Who were the missing people?

The six passengers who had been unaccounted for include Lynch and his daughter, along with Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife. Judy. A lawyer for Lynch named Chris Morvillo, and his wife, Neda, were also missing in the days after the yacht sank.

One member of the crew -- Recaldo Thomas, the yacht’s chef -- also went missing. Local news reports have suggested it was Thomas’ body that was found soon after the ship sank.

Who survived the sinking?

Survivors include Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, along with Charlotte Golunski, who works at Invoke Capital, Lynch’s venture capital firm. Golunski was on the ship with her daughter, Sofia, who had just celebrated her first birthday.

In an interview with La Repubblica , Golunski said that as the ship sank, she used all her strength to hold her arms above water and prevent Sofia from drowning. Sofia’s father was also onboard and survived.

Ayla Ronald, a lawyer who worked on Lynch’s fraud case, and her partner also escaped the wreck. Other survivors include several crew members, including two women in their early 20s who were part of the ship’s staff.

Who was Mike Lynch?

Lynch, 59, was the founder of Autonomy, a search engine and software company. Hewlett-Packard bought Autonomy for $11 billion in 2011, but Lynch then faced accusations — and then federal fraud charges — that he had misrepresented his company’s financial health and prospects. Lynch denied the claims, saying HP was blaming him for its own problems.

This past June, a lengthy trial in San Francisco ended with Lynch’s acquittal of all charges against him , after he testified on his own behalf. The sailing voyage along the coast of Sicily has been portrayed as a celebration of the end of the court case.
