IGY Málaga Marina

Seafarers in Spain just got a swish new place to dock their superyachts.

Island Global Yachting (IGY) opened a luxe marina in the busy port city of Málaga on July 15, as reported by the SuperYacht Times . Designed for the world’s largest superyachts, the IGY Málaga Marina offers a total of 33 berths that can each accommodate vessels measuring up to 590 feet.

Working with Ocean Capital Partners, IGY redeveloped Málaga’s existing marina and added new services and amenities, including 24-hour security, full vessel concierge, dockside parking and in-slip waste removal. Captain and crew facilities include a high-tech fitness center and a business hub. The adjacent beach also offers a host of restaurants and shops, while the nearby city is packed with interesting landmarks and museums.

IGY Málaga Marina offers 300 berths.  IGY

East of Gibraltar, Málaga is perfectly positioned to support vessels in the Mediterranean. With year-round berthing, it’s an ideal winter haven and is also a great place for yachts to prepare for transatlantic voyages. What’s more, the Málaga airport is only 20 minutes away from the marina. As an added bonus, the new marina is expected to generate $106 million (€104 million) annually and create 800 new jobs.

The new destination is IGY’s third marina in the western Mediterranean, alongside its existing outposts in Sète and Sardinia. The company claims that more than 500 clients cruised near Málaga in 2018, making it a perfect addition to its ever-expanding portfolio. The Florida-based outfit, which was founded in 2005, now helms a total of 24 marinas across 13 countries. Collectively, IGY’s 4,700 berths welcome roughly 8,000 yachtsmen every year.

Málaga San Andres Marina

The Málaga San Andres Marina is expected to open in 2024.

IGY is also part of a team of marine heavyweights working on another $60 million development in Málaga. Scheduled to open in 2024, it will comprise a new 600-berth marina (Málaga San Andres Marina) for vessels up to 196 feet and a commercial real estate area designed by renowned Spanish architect José Seguí.

It sounds like Málaga is the place to be.

One of the world's largest megayachts calls at Malaga port

The yas, with a length of 141 metres, belongs to the royal house of the united arab emirates and is moored in the security zone of the levante dock.

The last time it came to Malaga, in May 2023, the megayacht Yas was moored parallel to Muelle Uno (pier one). It is so big that it put a majority of the shops, bars and restaurants of this busy commercial and leisure area of Malaga city in the shade.

On this occasion, the floating colossus, one of the longest in the world at 141 metres, has been moored inside the safety zone of the Levante dock, given that the megayacht marina is at 100 per cent occupancy. It will therefore be difficult for yachting enthusiasts to see it.

superyachts in malaga

Although the purpose of the stopover in Malaga is unknown, and for how long, it was clear that some external work was being carried out on the exterior and communications systems by several operators, with the help of a lifting platform from the dock. Therefore, everything points to it being a technical stop.

The ship was initially built in 1978 as a frigate of the Dutch navy, the HNLMS Piet Hein. It was subsequently sold to the United Arab Emirates Navy for military use, and named Al Emirat, according to information available on various specialised nautical websites.

Between 2011 and 2015, the frigate underwent a complete refit at ADM shipyards in Abu Dhabi to become today's private superyacht Yas. Its exterior is striking not only for its size, but also for the distinctive sky-blue colour of its decks and its large glass front window. It can accommodate more than 60 passengers and 56 crew. Among its main features, it has a heliport, several swimming pools, a spa and, above all, the most advanced high-tech navigation and safety systems.

The boat belongs to Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, so it can be considered the official yacht of the Emirati crown. Known as Fazza, the 41-year-old prince is very active on social media, where he has more than 12 million followers. His snapshots give an insight into his day-to-day luxury life in Dubai.

The Málaga Marina Team

Arrival Information Details

Advanced reservations are strongly recommended at IGY Málaga Marina.  Berthing is not guaranteed without a confirmed reservation.  We ask that you provide advanced notice, when feasible, of your approximate arrival time so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience to you.

Please Note: Captains and his/her assignee must check-in/check-out with the marina office for each stay unless otherwise arranged with marina management.

1:00 pm 2:00 pm

When feasible, we request an estimated time of arrival 24hr in advance so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience.

Upon arrival, contact the marina office on VHF Channel 9 to obtain directions to the slip assignment. A skilled dock attendant will report to the slip to assist with docking, line handling, and connections. Once comfortably settled, we ask that you visit our marina office to check-in. The staff will answer any questions you have.

Upon departure, we request you contact the marina office 1-2 hours prior to departure to ensure all items are in order.  A receipt can be provided at the marina office or emailed upon request to the email address provided at the time of check-in.  If all items are in order, please hail the marina office on VHF Channel 9 if you would like assistance with disconnection and lines.

Early Check-in / Late Check-out

If a slip is occupied after 2:00 pm on the day of your scheduled departure, an additional night’s dockage will be charged to your account.

We will do our absolute best to accommodate your requests whenever possible.  In most cases, if your slip is available prior to 2:00 pm on the day of your arrival, or after 1:00 pm on the day of your departure, we will allow you to remain in the slip at no additional charge.  Prior arrangements must be made with the marina office for early arrival or delayed departure in order to avoid unnecessary charges.

Temporary Slips

In the event an early check-in and/or late check-out is unable to be accommodated in your currently slip, we will try to accommodate by making another slip available until such time your slip is available or you are ready to depart the marina.

In the event a temporary slip is made available to you, and you do not relocate the vessel, the marina reserves the right to charge you two times (2x’s) the original daily rate for each night you occupy the temporary slip.

This is necessary as at times, the marina operates at full occupancy and failure to relocate the vessel could negatively affect other guests.

Cancellation Policy

Please note: Cancellation policies are subject to change. Please refer to your reservation confirmation or contact the marina office direct for confirmation of cancellation policy. Cancellation requests must be submitted directly to the marina. Any cancellation requests received through the IGY Marinas website are not considered proper cancellation.

Customs & Immigration Information

  • Please note: We do our best to ensure this information is up-to-date, however, this is strictly for informational purposes only. We recommend reviewing the Customs and Immigration site for the destination requirements.

Clearing-in:

Boats from other EU countries need only to clear in if arriving from outside the EU. In practice, however, the authorities expect to be informed of one’s arrival even if coming from a neighbouring EU country.

In the case of non-EU boats, the captain should proceed ashore and clear Customs (Aduana) and Immigration at a port of entry. Normally officials then come to inspect the boat. Special care must be taken when filling in a marina or shipyard’s entry forms as these will be sent off to the Border Police Office and revised. Therefore, if you come from an EU port, make sure this is stated. The same applies if you come from a non-EU port.

Clearing-out:

Non-EU boats should clear with Immigration and Customs on departure from Spain. Customs will record the date of departure on the Customs permit if you have one. This permit can be used again if re-entering Spain within the period of its validity. Each arrival and departure must be noted by Customs on the permit.

  • At least one member of the crew should have a VHF radio operators certificate.
  • Watch out for Light Dues, charged at many ports for a minimum of 30 days, which can make short stays very expensive.
  • NOTE that the Spanish maritime ensign, which should be flown as a courtesy flag, differs from the Spanish national flag in that it does not have the crown in the centre.

Yachts must carry on board:

  • The original yacht registration certificate
  • All passports Proof of 3rd party insurance – in Spanish. You can probably get the appropriate certificate free of charge from your insurance provider.
  • A VHF operators license. One member of the crew must have a radio operator’s certificate of competence.
  • For EU boats, proof of VAT status is also required.
  • Although a Certificate of Competence (ICC) is not required, many Spanish Harbour Masters believe it is, so it is advisable to have one. For information on the ICC see the Noonsite European Union page.

Safety Equipment Requirements

All vessels cruising Spanish waters should have the following safety equipment on-board:

  • Functional life-vests for all passengers
  • Parachute, orange, and para-rocket flares
  • Bell and/or Whistle
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • First-aid Kit

Malaga, on the Spanish Mediterranean, is more than just the birthplace of Picasso. This charming and cosmopolitan Spanish holiday luxury yacht charter destination is the capital of the Costa del Sol and is set on a perfect spot along Andalujia Bay.

The province of Malaga is bordered by the Spanish provinces of Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla and Cadiz, and the Mediterranean Sea on its southern section. Of course, the best way for seasoned sailors to access the city of Malaga is by sailing to the region and dropping anchor at its port facility. Tourists who are spending their holiday on board luxury yacht and super yacht come from various ports in the African continent such as Melilla.

Malaga is steeped with tradition and history. For first-time visitors to this city, what is most striking about Malaga is the warm and welcoming disposition of the locals. Luxury cruises, superyachts and mega yachts in Malaga, holidays in style

Luxury yatchs

The Port of Malaga is a stopover on many luxury cruises and super yachts sailing in the Mediterranean. These cruise ships and mega-yachts, unlike mega cruise ships (as Symphony of the Seas ), do not carry thousands of passengers, so those who travel on these ships generally have a high income level.

Have you ever wondered what luxury cruises or superyachts are like? Are you planning to travel in one of those luxury cruises?

Wind Star Cruise

The Wind Star is a great 4 mast sailboat that has all the comforts that any traveller needs for a pleasant cruise in style. There is a restaurant, library, spa, fitness centre, casino and even a swimming pool with bar among its services. Other sailboats of this company are the Wind Spirit and the Wind Surf.

The WindStar sailboat will visit the port of Malaga up to 17 times during 2018. Another of the company’s ships that was already in Malaga during the year 2012, was the’Wind Surf’.

Curiosities of the cruise

Windstar has a capacity of 148 passengers and 101 crew members. The cruise ship is registered in the Bahamas.

If you want to have dinner under the starlight, you just need to reserve the space in advance.

The cruise ship has a platform from which you can enjoy water activities.

Wind Star sailboat

As a good luxury cruiser, you won’t lack anything in your cabin. There are two types of cabins inside this sailboat, the most exclusive one has 220 square meters for your enjoyment, a size that is even larger than my house.

  • Queen Size Bed
  • Flat screen with DVD player (no Blu-ray in 2018?)
  • WI-FI Payment
  • Flowers and fruits
  • Private bathroom with hairdryer

The price is between 2000€ and 5000€ per passenger.

Ocean Majesty

superyachts in malaga

It has a largest capacity of 621 passengers in 274 cabins and space for 257 crew members. There are 185 cabins with outdoor views and 16 suites. All cabins have air conditioning, shower, satellite TV, safe and mini bar.

  • The dining room does not have windows, although it does have an attractive retro look.
  • It has musical and magic shows, among others.
  • There is a small gym and a sauna.
  • The last renovation of the ship was in 2012.

Among the customers’ opinions, the great friendliness of the crew and the cleanliness of the boat stand out.

The average price is between 1500€ and 3400€ depending on the route chosen.

It is expected that during the year 2018 the cruise will visit the Port of Malaga again during the month of September.

Seadream II

Seadream II is the cruise chosen by those who want to discover the world’s most select ports in a luxurious and personal atmosphere. The crew of this ship attends in a personalized way to the 113 passengers that can accommodate the ship.

The cruise ship is registered in Oslo and has a base port in the city of Malaga.

The chef will prepare dishes with fresh products bought in the markets of each port. This is something that cannot be done on mega cruise ships with more than 2000 people on board, but it has a price.

Seadream II

The slogan of this cruise is “ sail on your own yacht “, it is intended that the passenger feels as if he were on his own boat.

This cruise ship has 4 types of cabins. The smallest one is 18 square meters while the largest one has 42 square meters and 2 private bathrooms with bathtubs. All cabins have ocean views.

Among the curiosities of this boat is a Nespresso machine in each cabin. The cabins are very luxurious with a wooden decoration.

  • There is a swimming pool, jacuzzi, bars, main restaurant and buffet-restaurant.
  • Balinese beds and hammock area for sunbathing.
  • Spa and gym.
  • Library and Internet room
  • Activities on the sea: kayaking, skiing, canoeing, etc….

The price ranges from 3000€ to 6700€ for a basic cabin.

Those who have no financial worries can book the Owner’s Suite for as little as €17,000 on a 7-day cruise. If you think it’s expensive, continue reading, it’s what a cheap super-yacht costs a day.

No doubt after watching the promotional video you want to live on the boat:

It is expected that during 2018 the Seadream II will make up to 6 stops to disembark and pick up passengers at the Port of Malaga.

If you want to show the world your purchasing power, you don’t have time to spend the money you earn monthly or the money burns in your pocket you may be interested in renting a yacht with its crew.

Rent a private yatch: Superyachts, megayachts or gigayachts?

It is quite common to see superyachts and megayachts docked at either Puerto Banus or Puerto Marina, consequently with a luxury sports car parked in front of them.

If you want to show the world your purchasing power, you don’t have time to spend the money you earn monthly or the money burns in your pocket you might want renting a superyacht.

Why share a cruise with strangers? In Puerto Banus and Puerto Marina in Benalmádena I have been able to see some of these superyachts for rent.

How much does it cost to rent a private superyacht?

The price is undoubtedly popular (among the rich people), for only 650,000€ per week (93,000€ per day) you can have at your disposal a luxury megayacht with its crew. The space available is usually between 10 and 15 guests.

Anastasia megayatch

A megayacht such as ‘Anastasia’ will have all kinds of toys such as jet skis and another small boat inside.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGMzDMMw96A

This superyacht also has a gym, a swimming pool, a party room and a private cinema. When you pay such a large sum, it’s not in the plans to get bored.

Renting a luxury megayatch

In addition other options such as the megayacht ‘Silver Fast’ for the same price include space for your vehicle or helicopter. At this economic level there are no restrictions.

  • ¿What is the difference between superyachts, megayachts and gigayachts? The size matters!

Superyachts and boats for rent on the Costa del Sol

There are more affordable options you can find docked on the Costa del Sol. For about 64000€ per week you have at your disposal a superyacht for 12 people departing from Sotogrande, also from Puerto Banus for a small extra fee of 1200€.

Falcon yatch in Estepona

If you don’t need that much space or your pocket isn’t that big there are much cheaper and less glamorous boats that include the captain on board. Renting a zodiac in Malaga can cost around 350€ per day, a sailboat around 500€ per day, a small fishing boat around 170€ per day and a small yacht between 1500 and 5000€ per day.

Chinese boat 'Junco' in Benalmadena for renting and trips

Some boats like ‘Junco Chino’ in Benalmadena offer the possibility to rent it privately for about 1000€ a day. In the case of sharing it in any of their scheduled trips along the coast the price is about 18€ per person.

Luxury cruise from Malaga?

If you are planning to board a luxury cruise ship from Malaga or the cruise ship you are travelling on makes a stop at our port, you should consider visiting the city .

The port of Malaga is very close to the old town and the main monuments. I recommend you take a look at Malaga’s main tourist attractions .

If you don’t know how to get around and have limited time you can take a look at the means of transport you can book online:

  • If you can afford a trip on one of these boats I think the best thing to suit your needs is a private vehicle with a driver at the same level. You can choose the Luxury option and opt for the top-of-the-range models.
  • If you prefer to drive yourself you can rent a car at Malaga Port .  With the booking you can pick up the car and return it at the same port before boarding back. Needless to say, you can also book a top-of-the-range car if that’s what you need.

So finally what are your thoughts? Feel like booking a luxury cruise from Malaga or maybe a mega-yacht for your holiday?

Guide to Malaga

A cultural getaway found on the Spanish Coast

Situated in southern Spain, Málaga is a beautiful port city that is loaded with history and overflowing with youthful vigour. More than just the birthplace of Picasso, Malaga has been designed for relaxation with myriad golf courses, a selection of beautiful wellness resorts and an innovative culinary scene. With nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, and several kilometres of beach to explore, it's quite easy to see why Malaga has been described as "Ciudad del Paraíso" (Paradise City).

The Spanish Coast spoils its superyacht visitors with a fascinating array of azure beauty and city-living and Málaga lives up to these high standards. As one of the oldest cities in Spain , hallmarks of its rich past are scattered across the city, the cobbled streets of the old quarter, its mountainside Roman Amphitheatre, the Moorish citadels of the Alcazaba and Gilfarbaro. Make sure you don’t miss a visit to the famous cathedral that dominates the old part of the city. Built in 1528, the Renaissance and Baroque-style cathedral is a beautiful structure enjoyed by all its visitors.

Yachting enthusiasts are attracted to this bustling city because of its cultural heritage and subtropical climate during the day. However, Málaga offers the perfect nightlife scene, inviting crowds of fashionistas and some of the most elite to party from dusk till dawn. With numerous options to suit all tastes including tapas bars, clubs on the sea, drinking in the university district and romantic walks through the streets of the old town. From rooftop bars to elite nightclubs, Málaga’s nightlife is known to be sophisticated and fashionable but also to the hand and vibrant.

In the historic city centre, just across from the cathedral, is Malaga’s main venue for live jazz. This American-style jazz club, with incredibly stylish decor and atmospheric lighting, this lavish club hosts nightly concerts which feature both local and international artists. After a lazy day cruising in the Spanish sunshine aboard your superyacht charter , enjoy an evening of classic cocktails and great music.

If you’re looking to dive into the exceptional culinary provided in the city, For dinner, head to the city’s only Michelin-starred restaurants, the eponymous José Carlos García. Select a table on the restaurant’s beautiful terrace, boasting the most spectacular sunsets, the ambience created here is impeccable. Diners have one choice, a spectacular tasting menu, which changes regularly according to local produce. Be sure to expect expertly crafted seafood made with that day’s catch, great wines and flawless service.

The Spanish Coastline offers a balmy Mediterranean retreat full of energetic cities, awe-inspiring architecture and old-town beauty, all wrapped in century old architecture. Bill Gates’ mega yacht docks in Spain’s Malaga Port

superyachts in malaga

MALAGA Port has recently become a hub for high-end maritime activities, hosting a fleet of luxury mega-yachts, including the Wayfinder, the super yacht owned by tech mogul Bill Gates.

The Wayfinder serves as Bill Gates’ support vessel, catering to the needs of his larger yacht, the Aqua, by providing fuel, supplies, spare parts, maintenance staff, and smaller recreational boats.

The Wayfinder can comfortably house a crew of 18 and up to 12 guests. The vessel also boasts a helipad doubling as a pickleball court—a sport that combines paddle, tennis, badminton, and table tennis— plus, it can transport everything from jet skis to scuba diving gear.

But the Wayfinder is not the only luxury craft mooring in Malaga’s bustling harbour at the moment. The capital’s port is also hosting two other mega-yachts formerly owned by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft – the Tatoosh and the Octopus.

These two yachts have now changed hands to a Nordic magnate and carry a combined estimated worth of approximately €325 million.

The ‘Tatoosh’ stretches over 92 metres, ranking it among the world’s 30 largest yachts. Luxury abounds on this vessel, complete with a helicopter, two smaller auxiliary boats, a cinema, a lobster tank, and a pool with a 1.8-meter depth, among other amenities.

Meanwhile, since late August, Malaga Port has also welcomed the ‘Octopus,’ currently the eighth largest yacht globally, valued at a whopping €235 million.

Luxury doesn’t end there; the Zenobia yacht, owned by Saudi billionaire Wafic Said, is another upscale vessel currently docked at Malaga Port.

Zenobia, worth around €40 million, boasts a variety of amenities, including a gym, a pool, a cinema, and a library.
