Taking into account 600lbs of the tongue capacity, this trailer dolly can handle up to 4 times greater load and still perform impeccably. What is more, depending on the weight of the load, you can regulate the tire pressure and ensure the best performance of your trailer dolly.
Grass, dirt, or gravel – the MaxxHaul trailer dolly performs equally well in any type of surface and terrain and overcomes obstacles effortlessly. You can install standard aftermarket hitch balls or big couplers as this unit comes with the 1-7/8 ball receiver.
The MaxxHaul heavy-duty steel frame dolly comes with 12-inch tires and a 40-inch handle that offers you more room for maneuver. Another feature that makes this unit comfortable to use is the ¾ shank with rubber handles that prevent hand blisters.
Simple but reliable, this unit might be the product you’ve been looking for a dolly that gets the job done but won’t break the bank and lasts for a while.
You can get these wide tires (3-1/2 inch) across almost any surface – especially sand and gravel. Made of anodized stainless steel, the frame of the TMS dolly is sturdy and coated with an anti-rust protective layer that ensures the durability of the unit. The 13-inch nylon straps connect the cradle arms and prevent the cradle from opening wide.
This unit is a breeze to mount, as all you have to do is to attach the wheels and you are good to go. If you need a trailer dolly that’s easy to take with you, well-built, and perform great with lighter vessels, make sure to take this one into account.
The fact it is equipped with the adjustable hitch ball (16.5-inch to 25.5-inch) makes this trailer dolly easy-peasy to maneuver. Don’t worry about tight spaces – this product will help you handle weight in the narrow areas as well.
Tow Tuff packed their 12-inch tires with expanding foam so you can maneuver the thing on almost any kind of surface – gravel, sand, and grass. The wheelbase is 30-inch wide, which adds on stability and safety, especially when turning the dolly.
As a cherry to the top, the Tow Tuff trailer dolly comes with large handles that reduce stress on your hands and back, even when towing heavy weights. Sturdy, durable, adjustable, featuring a great weight capacity – this unit could be a good buy.
Equipped with 12-inch tires that are strengthened with solid steel rims, this dolly is durable and strong but also does great in challenging surfaces – sand, dirt, gravel, and soft ground.
MaxxHaul rated this unit’s tongue weight capacity to 600lbs, but, if you had experience with such units – then you already know their real capacity goes way higher.
Although the hitch ball is not adjustable, at least you can use both aftermarket and bigger couplers with it. Another great feature is that the MaxxHaul 70881 trailer dolly comes with foldable handles and kickstand.
This practical dolly boasts lightweight but still sturdy aluminum construction and a solid 165lbs load capacity to handle your vessel effortlessly. What is more, it can handle 2 vessels at the same time if you are planning to have an active day on the water.
It comes with 3-inch wide tires that do great on a lot of surfaces – sand and gravel in the first place and don’t sink that much. The BonnIo dolly comes with bungee cords and straps that will help you with securing the hull to the dolly.
There’s a spring-loaded stand that makes it easy to load your vessel to the dolly when getting out of the water. Overall, this unit is a bang for the buck considering all the qualities it offers.
Although it seems too small at first glance, the Lift Jack dolly is a heavy-duty trailer with 500lbs of tongue capacity that allows you to tow boats up to 5000lbs. How come this unit features that much of capacity?
Well, the key is in the patented gear mechanism that does the job effortlessly. You can even adjust the gear to low or high. The Lift Jack dolly is packed with another awesome and helpful feature – a cranking system that makes it ideal for maneuvering in narrow spaces.
A great choice for short-distance use, this device works wonders with most boats and other marine applications while you can use it with camper vehicles too.
The key factor of this type of performance is in the construction materials. Made of high—quality iron, the Giantex trailer dolly is almost impossible to destroy. Yet, the seller involved some wooden parts to this unit as well that enhance its durability even more.
The assembly process is easy and straightforward and requires little to no maintenance. The Giantex trailer dolly might be a great option if you have a jet ski or a boat but need a unit to move some cargo as well.
It is quite small and compact itself, but don’t let its size fool you. The Aquacarts dolly is packed with numerous useful features. It is made of aircraft quality aluminum that’s well-known as a lightweight and quality materials, comes with a fully welded 2-inch tube, and a 1-7/8-inch universal ball, and large, removable tires.
This unit works well with most groundwork, including gravel, cement, and sand. The Aquacarts trailer is made in the USA, which is good to know if you want to avoid products made in China.
1. hand trailer dolly.
There are numerous electric-powered pieces of marine equipment – deep cycle marine battery or the models in our trolling motor reviews, etc. Electric trailer dollies offer an almost hands-free experience. This type is more convenient and comfortable to use, especially in tight spaces. If you want to avoid lifting (especially if you have lower back issues), an electric trailer dolly operated by a battery would be a better choice.
Although you would have to spend some extra to get it, an electric trailer dolly will provide more value and pay off in the long run.
The choice of the unit will largely determine whether you see the difference with a dolly. If you are not careful about the most important factors to consider when making a buying decision, there is a great chance you won’t find what you are looking for.
That is why we compiled all of the important checks you have to make beforehand the purchase. Here they are:
Each dolly has a different weight capacity. This device supports the weight on your trailer tongue. In other words – a certain amount of weight placed on your boat trailer is transferred to the ball hitch.
Even the most lightweight boats are tricky to move without someone’s help. Have you ever tried to attach your trailer to your car? Then you know what we are talking about. That’s exactly why you need a dolly that can support the weight of your boat.
Double-check the weight rating of the dolly you are planning to buy. Also, make a difference between the tongue capacity and the overall weight capacity of the unit.
If you get a trailer dolly that comes with a non-adjustable hitch height, there is a great chance it might be too low for you, especially if you are a tall person. A too low hitch ball won’t make maneuverability easier but much harder.
Again, everything about a trailer dolly should provide you with more ease and comfort when moving your boat trailer and your boat. Besides the fact it would be best to find a unit with the adjustable hitch ball, we highly recommend you to find a unit that can accommodate different ball sizes as well. This way, you will ensure you can use your dolly for a wider choice of applications, not only for your boat but for a camper, too.
Boat trailer dollies come with inflatable and solid rubber tires that also come in different sizes. These are as important as your trailer tires are. You can also see our boat trailer tires reviews .
The pattern and the size of the tires are of great importance when moving the unit across different surfaces. As a boat owner, you will use the dolly on sandy and gritty surfaces so make sure your dolly’s tires can perform well in these areas.
Also, make sure to find a dolly with tires wide enough to support the size of your boat. Otherwise – you are putting them to a risk of exploding due to overloading.
Who wants to spend hours assembling their dolly? Exactly – no one. Some boat trailers come with easily removable wheels and these types are mostly foldable as well so you can take them with you on your boat.
However, others that are not foldable might take more time to assembly. Check on the manufacturer’s instructions, if possible, before making a final buying decision. There, you will see how clear the assembly instructions are.
We’ve already listed the two types of trailer dollies – hand-operated and electric. The choice between these two is a matter of personal preference. If you still feel young and have no back pain, a manual unit will do. On the other hand, if you don’t want to pose yourself to any, not even the slightest risk of an injury – an electric dolly would be a better option.
1. maintenance.
Trailer dollies are easy to use and even easier to maintain. If you pay attention to a couple of details, you will ensure your unit serves you for a while. For instance, you should place it in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
If your dolly comes with foam-filled tires, UV rays can make the foam to go hard and cause rubber deterioration with solid rubber tires .
Also, be aware of the fact even powder-coated dollies will start wearing out after a couple of years. If you know how to do this, it would be great to repeat the powder coating and extend the unit’s quality even more.
1. how does a trailer dolly work.
It transfers the weight from the boat trailer. Once attached to the trailer, you can use the trailer dolly to move your boat around – within narrow spaces, between objects, etc. This unit reduces the pressure to your back and legs as the dolly takes on the weight and makes it easier for you to maneuver it.
If you have a trailer dolly but you are unsure about its weight, it’s easy to measure it on your own. You will need an improvised scaffolding and a bathroom scale. Lay the coupler of your dolly on the scale. If the scale can handle the weight of the
unit’s tongue, it will display the tongue weight – whether it be 150lbs, 600lbs, or another measure.
Take into account the dolly tongue weight doesn’t indicate the overall weight capacity of the unit. For instance, 600lbs of tongue weight capacity indicates that your unit can withstand weights up to 4000lbs. With some units, capacity goes up to 5000lbs.
If you have a dolly that comes with a built-in connection for the battery, you can easily turn the manual unit to a motorized one. Yet, make sure the dolly supports the voltage of the battery you want to connect to it.
You have struggled enough with moving your trailer and your boat by hand. Now you know there is a unit that can make your life easier and save your back and legs – the best boat trailer dolly . Easy to maneuver and portable, you’ll experience numerous benefits dolly offers with time.
We hope you could spot the best unit for your needs among our boat trailer dolly reviews so you can fully enjoy your marine adventures. If you ask us, a boat trailer dolly is a must for sailors and the ones yet-to-become. Yet, this is just a tiny piece of equipment you need. Here are the most well-established products on the market that will undoubtedly offer you the best value for your money. Along with traditional trailer dollies, you will find some smart alternatives for canoe/kayaks, as well as lift jacks that will make hitching your trailer a breeze.
The dolly tongue weight capacity is rated at 600 lbs so it can easily handle three to four times greater overall load. The 1 7/8″ ball receiver can accommodate bigger couplers, but can also be easily replaced with any standard aftermarket hitch ball.
The 12″ rubber tires allow the dolly to quickly overcome obstacles and perform well on various surfaces like dirt, gravel or grass. You can also regulate the tire pressure to better handle lighter or heavier loads or to provide more surface area in contact with the ground. Keep in mind that overloading the dolly or too high of tire pressure can leave you with a flat and you would need to replace the whole wheel.
The long 40″ handle provides great leverage, and the 3/4″ in diameter shank is comfortable enough and comes with rubber handles that might feel a bit loose, but do the job.
The tongue max. weight is rated at 800 lbs, meaning the dolly can easily handle even tandem trailers weighing 3000-4000 lbs. The hitch ball height is adjustable from 16.5” to 25.5” and can accommodate 1 7/8” couplers or larger. The 12″ flat-free tires are filled with expanding foam, hold up well and perform equally good on gravel, dirt, grass and sandy surfaces. Keep in mind, that despite being flat-free, the foam tire can collapse when overloaded, but worry not as the wheels are covered by the 1-year limited warranty from the manufacturer.
The wider 30” wheelbase provides much appreciated additional stability and safety when turning. The leverage of the 40” handle makes moving trailers much easier and significantly reduces the stress on the lower back. The hammer tone powder coat finish offers excellent protection against rust and corrosion.
The super-lightweight full aluminum construction weighs only 8.8 lbs and has a generous load capacity of 165 lb. It will easily carry any canoe, paddleboard or even a tandem 12 ft kayak to the water. And once you get to the water? Then you simply take off the wheels, store them in the kayak, fold the trolley and strap it on to the hull (with the included tie-down straps). Brilliant!
On the sand, the 3″ wide, full solid rubber tires provide a lot of surface area and won’t sink in as much. Full solid rubber tires on the other hand genuinely mean no-flat tires. Ever.
Four foam bumpers protect the hull from scratches, and the spring-loaded stand keeps the dolly cart propped up for easy loading.
What you should watch out for is appropriately securing the hull to the dolly with the included straps and bungee cords. Otherwise, you risk the canoe/kayak slipping away and damaging the hull.
Attaching the trailer valet takes only a couple of minutes. Then you crank it up and steer toward the hitch ball. Simple as that! You can even store it in place, so you don’t have to attach it again once you’re back.
Tanks to the heavy-duty construction this small little helper has a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs and can effortlessly move 5000 lbs boat trailers around. Effortlessly because the patented gear mechanism does the heavy lifting for you. It even offers high and low gears and an automatic brake system if you lose grip. The unique cranking system allows maneuvering even in the tightest space with up to 90° turning angle.
Keep in mind that such units are not meant to move your trailer over great distances, as you’ll be bending forward to be operating the gears. Furthermore, for the trailer valet to do its job, the weight needs to be falling on the tires for traction. Working it uphill could be challenging or impossible.
The hitch ball height is adjustable from 21” to 33” and works with 2” couplers or higher, allowing you to accommodate a wide variety of trailers. It features the same solid steel frame with 30” wheelbase and powder coating to provide the great overall usability and long-lasting durability. The 40″ handle provides excellent leverage, but bear in mind that when working with heavier trailers, the weight on the hitch ball can flip you forward. Like its smaller brother, Tow Tuff’s heavy-duty dolly comes with a 1-year limited warranty.
The tongue weight capacity is rated at 600 lbs, and the long 43” handle provides excellent leverage. It features a handy 3-stage kickstand that can be fully folded when not used. The handles are also foldable and provide a greater turning radius. It comes with a 1-7/8″ hitch ball that fits bigger couplers too, but can also be replaced with an aftermarket one.
The sturdy, anodized stainless steel construction has top-grade anti-rust protection and will hold up to 150 lbs. It features a spring-loaded double-legged kickstand and thick foam bumpers to make loading your canoe or kayak a breeze. To make it even more comfortable, nylon straps prevent the cradle from opening too far. It also comes with a 12 ft long strap so that you can tie down the dolly on the hull and take it with you after removing and storing the wheels.
The long trailer dolly handle provides excellent leverage and a much more favorable position for moving or maneuvering your trailer.
You probably know how difficult it could be to get your trailer exactly where you need it. A dolly would allow more precise maneuvers at various angles.
Thanks to dolly’s simple design, a sturdy and reliable one can be acquired without having to spend hundreds of dollars, and it will serve you well for the years to come.
However, all these benefits come along with the right dolly choice. If you underestimate factors like wheel type, load capacity or even the surface you’d be working with, you are quite likely to end up with a big paperweight in your garage. To make sure this doesn’t happen, we considered all aspects of a dolly purchase in this neat and useful buying guide.
Before getting started, you can also check out our reviews of the best boat covers that will make sure your boat is indeed adequately stored.
Let’s first have a look at what different options we have when it comes down to moving your boat trailer or canoe/kayak.
This is the most bare-bone basic type of dollies consisting of a metal frame, two tires, and a hitch ball. They are great for lesser weights and provide outstanding value for money.
This is a variation of the two-wheeled dolly that comes with a wheel caster. It dramatically improved maneuverability and allows angled approaches while moving the trailer and simultaneously serves as a kickstand to provide more stability.
These are technically a set of wheels for your canoe/kayak. Typically very lightweight and compact, they allow you to easily “slide” the canoe/kayak across the sand and can even be quickly disassembled to be taken into the water.
This is your best friend if you are having trouble hitching your trailer to your truck. It serves as a guiding unit that helps you precisely navigate and hitch the boat trailer coupler to your vehicle. All by yourself and at the first attempt.
It is probably the first thing that comes to mind when considering a dolly purchase and indeed is one of the most crucial aspects. However, as simple as it seems there is still a great deal of misconception surrounding it.
Here is how trailer dolly load capacity is measured and how to calculate how much capacity you would actually need.
This is how the dolly’s maximum load capacity is rated and should not be confused with Gross Trailer Weight . It specifies the maximum amount of weight the dolly’s tongue can take before the construction collapsing. Technically, this is the part of the trailer’s weight that is directly put on the dolly’s hitch ball.
Experts agree that trailer tongue weight should be somewhere between 9-15% of the Gross Trailer Weight, but this number may vary based on the weight distribution of your trailer. If you wonder about your tongue weight and how to measure it , there’s a simple way to do it without a special scale.
All you would need is a bathroom scale and an improvised scaffolding to get the range at the height of the dolly’s hitch ball. Once you are ready, simply lay the trailer coupler on the bathroom scale. If the weight is off the chart and you still can’t decide, you should consider that for example, a 600lbs dolly can handle trailers of about 3000 to 4000 lbs without any problems.
Build materials are crucial for a solid and robust Dolley. If long-term reliability is priority number one for you, then you should definitely consider an all steel construction. Combined with anti-rust powder coating, you would have a dolly that will serve you well for a long time. Just keep in mind that powder coating, despite being the most practical option, is prompt to scratches.
The first thing that comes to mind should be “leverage.” The longer the handle, the higher the leverage would be and the easier it would be for you every time you hitch and move your trailer.
Another vital thing to consider is the handle grip. You can of course always use gloves, but well-fitting solid rubber grips are to be preferred as they would spare you the calloused hands.
Larger diameter wheels would generally overcome obstacles easier but would make it harder when pulling uphill. Larger width, on the other hand, would provide more surface in contact with the ground and more equal weight distribution, so the wheels don’t sink as much on softer surfaces. However, wider wheels also mean more friction on normal surfaces and would require more effort to move around.
Therefore, if you are about to deal with grass or muddy/sandy ground you should definitely be looking for wider more “off-road” wheels. If you’ll be only maneuvering your boat trailer on the tarmac, standard width tires would be the better options.
When talking about tires, we must speak about pneumatic and flat-free tires. You might think, flat-free is always better, but not necessarily as you are about to find out.
These are like the typical bicycle-like tires and have an inner casing and air valves, and non-inflatable tires. The significant advantage of having air valves is that you can regulate the pressure for larger or smaller loads. In both cases, a flat tire is always a risk, especially if you overload the trolley. The good thing is that hardware stores often have spares.
Instead of with air, these tires are filled with expanding foam or solid rubber. You should keep in mind that foam-filled tires, unlike solid rubber ones, can still collapse if overloaded. Therefore, if going for foam tires, make sure they are covered by the dolly’s warranty.
Your invaluable friend when dealing with tight spaces and angled approaches. A caster wheel makes maneuvering tremendously easier and provides additional stability to the dolly. With the third wheel in place, it’s quite unlikely that the handle would lash back in your face under the load of the trailer.
Another good thing to keep in mind is that the trailer tires also make an enormous difference. With a wide array of options out there, we shortlisted only the top ones in our best boat trailer tire reviews for you to check out.
Another thing not to be overlooked is the hitch ball height and size. Dollies with adjustable ball height would allow you to accommodate a wider variety of trailers, but the hitch ball cannot be replaced. Nonetheless, a dolly with a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, for instance, can still accommodate bigger couplers.
Fixed balls, on the other hand, can easily be replaced with any standard hitch from the hardware store. Just make sure the fixed ball height is okay for you.
There are towable trailer dollies with a clevis connection that allows switching between towing and manual operation. This is an excellent alternative to motorized trailer dollies. This feature dramatically improves the overall practicality and usability of the dolly especially if you have an ATV or a small tractor. It’s a perfect option if you’ve got to deal with dirt, grass or uphill situations.
A dolly can pose many hazards, and when not used accordingly it can even lead to a back injury instead of protecting you from one. So, to make sure that your dolly would make your life easier and not the other way around here are the top safety measures you should always stick to.
One of the great things about having a trailer dolly is that it requires little to no maintenance. Just make sure you store it away from direct sunlight to avoid rubber deterioration or hardening of the foam in foam-filled tires.
Another thing to watch out for is wear of the powder-coating. No matter how durable it is, over time it will start wearing off making the dolly susceptible to rusting. So, if you want it to serve you well for a really long time, repeating the powder coating once a few years is a good practice.
The information above will most certainly help you pick the best boat trailer dolly for your needs.
However, there is one thing you should not forget. No matter the dolly, the laws of physics still apply. Moving a 4000 lbs trailer around manually would also require significant efforts. Uphill elevation would naturally make it even more difficult. Grass or soft ground would further add to the challenge. These rules are universal, and you should be perfectly clear with them when making your decision. Therefore, when going through our boat trailer dolly reviews , keep that in mind.
Where to start? We suggest you first answering the question of how much weight do you actually want to move around. Leaving a good 20-30% unutilized load capacity of what you are planning is always a wise move. If you’ll be using it regularly, a solid steel frame is your safest bet. Reconsider the surfaces and spaces you are going to be working with and pick the right set of wheels. This lightweight, easy-to-handle Laser Dolly is made from aluminum with stainless steel screws. It is well-engineered to the point where it can easily be taken apart to fit in the back of a car for transporting elsewhere. When broken down, there are only five primary parts - two wheels, the axel-strap assembly, and two strut assemblies. Simple, yet strong and effective.
Made with a powder-coated steel frame, this lightweight dolly and trailer combo works with various small sailboats including Laser, Sunfish, and RS Feva. It comes complete with soft springs that absorb vibration during transportation. The design uses a fold-up locking tongue stand. The load capacity is set at 300 pounds.
The welded, all-metal frame of this dolly is made from single-tube aluminum with stainless steel screws. It also comes with a heavy-duty 3-inch non-stretch polyester sling for boat support. It can be easily assembled and disassembled, depending on your specific needs. The lightweight, sturdy unit weighs just 20 pounds when the wheels have been removed.
Although this launching dolly isn’t designed specifically for Lasers, and the quality may not be as good as some other dollies, Lasers still fit so this may work well for you. Made from stainless steel, this dolly has 16-inch wheels and can hold a maximum weight of 160 kilograms and boats up to 14 feet long. It is designed to be handled effectively by a single person.
Need a new dolly wheel or 2? This is the perfect replacement for several types of dollies used to carry Optimist and Laser class sailboats. The standard pneumatic dolly wheel measures 12 inches in diameter. With a load capacity of 500 pounds, this dolly wheel package is a perfect upgrade.
A Laser dolly is a specialized piece of equipment designed to help transport, launch, and retrieve small sailboats. They are also called boat or dinghy dollies as they can carry more than just Laser class sailboats. Made from aluminum or stainless steel, these sturdy dollies are also lightweight. The design is quite simple, there is a frame and wheels with supports to hold a dinghy. The design permits a single person to easily move a loaded dinghy from storage or off the trailer to the edge of a body of water without requiring a large boat trailer.
Here is a closer look at the parts of a Laser dolly:
There are several advantages to using a Laser dolly. They include:
Trailers are different from dollies. A dolly can be moved manually by a single person whereas a trailer is much heavier and requires a vehicle to tow it from location to location. Plus, dollies are not designed to be towed but boat trailers are.
There are two main types of trailers for hauling boats. They are as follows:
There are several different parts to a boat trailer. Here is a breakdown of what they are:
The task of loading or unloading a Laser dinghy requires a few simple steps. Here is a step-by-step description of the process:
If the trailer you have can accommodate both a dolly and boat, you can easily load the entire combo of dinghy and dolly onto the trailer, and then strap it down securely to avoid movement while in transit.
To keep your dolly or trailer in good working order and lasting longer, it is vital to perform essential maintenance and care. Here are a few tips to assist with that:
There may be a time each year that you will be faced with storing your dolly or trailer until the sailing season begins again. Here are two considerations to keep in mind:
As is the case with anything, the better you take care of something, the longer it will last and provide service to you. Dollies and trailers are no different. Here are two ways to keep your dolly or trailer in top shape:

Maneuvering a boat trailer without the aid of any tool is backbreaking, not to mention foolhardy. If you find yourself literally bending over backward when trying to move your trailer, then we can help. Dollies can come in handy and save the day.
And no, I’m not talking about dollies from the toy store but a trailer dolly to help you stay out of the emergency room from throwing out your back.
If you’ve bought your first boat, you most likely know that it can take some hard work, sweat, and maybe even some tears to get it all set for the summer months. As you are sweating and almost in tears from trying to figure out how the heck you are going to get the boat ready, this is where trailer dollies swoop in.
While you are getting your boat organized with its trailer in the garage, it wouldn’t take you even a minute before you realize that you’d need a boat trailer mover.
In addition to protecting your back when moving heavy equipment, a boat trailer dolly is also easy to maneuver. A high-quality trailer dolly can help you maneuver even in the tightest of spaces so you can properly position the trailer where you need to.
Additionally, boat trailer dollies are also affordable. Due to their simple design, they don’t cost a lot to manufacture. So, you can easily find one that is well-made and built to be durable and reliable without having to break the bank to do so. A high-quality trailer dolly will also last you for several years to come, making it even more of a worthy investment.
Before purchasing your new boat trailer dolly, read on to learn more about the key features you want to look for as you begin narrowing down your choices.
This is, by far, one of the more important factors to consider before purchasing a boat trailer dolly. How much weight are you going to have to lug around? Choose a dolly that can hold even more weight than you think you need.
Trailers are heavy, which can make them even more difficult to move and maneuver. So, having an adjustable trailer dolly may be in your best interests. You can adjust the hitch without having to push the handle all the way in. This will be helpful if you are on uneven ground or need to reposition.
Trailer dollies are also made to be durable and reliable, and they are designed to last for years. An all heavy-duty steel-constructed dolly is good to have. Others may also feature a powder coating, making it resistant to rust and corrosion.
The dolly handle provides us with the leverage we need. So, the longer the handle, the more leverage we are afforded. More leverage means it is easier to move the trailer. You should also find a handle that offers a more solid and slip-resistant grip. Solid rubber grips are ideal.
Finally, the wheels are also an important consideration as well. Some have flat-free tires, and some have inflatable wheels. When looking for something compatible with your trailer, take notice of the wheels and the hitch ball size.
Tow tuff heavy duty trailer mover.
Trailer dollies are a revolutionary boat accessory that will help you navigate your trailer around the boatyard and to its storage area painlessly and with ease. Steering around tight corners without a scratch will finally cease all of the times you swore you wanted to just get rid of your boat due to the frustration of moving the trailer.
Now, this won’t be the case. With the best boat trailer dolly, you can stop holding your breath every time you try to move your boat. Both your boat and the boat trailer pose a challenge to your garage’s dimensions. Dollies are the best solution to this math problem. With the perfect trailer hand dolly, you will be able to keep your garage in perfect order and your wits intact and stop the cursing all at once.
Take a look at five of the best boat trailer dollies that we have lined up for you.
Tow Tuff’s TMD-800C adjustable boat trailer dolly is rated for heavier loads than the below-mentioned units – a good 800-lb max weight capacity. Its third wheel makes it more stable, stronger, and easier to maneuver compared to other trailer dollies, no doubt about that.
This heavy-duty boat dolly is built with a solid steel frame and 12-inch flat-free pneumatic tires; this boat trailer dolly has many features that will allow you to use it with various trailers. It is a versatile boat trailer dolly that will ease your frustration. With this design, there is no reason to fuss about an unstable trailer dolly anymore.
Would you like to hear a simple hack to fix that problem?
Remove the handgrips and apply some adhesive on the insides. Then slip them back onto the handlebar. Allow the adhesive to dry before using the dolly. This can help prevent this issue from occurring and reoccurring in the near future. This way you can feel safe and sound that this trailer wasn’t a total fluke. Outsmarting the only flaw of the Tow Tuff’s TMD-800C…two can play at that game!
It’s pretty obvious: If you need to move a variety of trailers and only have the budget for one boat trailer dolly, then Tow Tuff’s adjustable 3-wheeled boat dolly wins hands down. It offers the durability that you look for in trailer dollies, the desired price point, and is one of the more versatile trailer movers on the market. It moves with ease and grace, almost comparable to a ballerina (yes really). With the convenience and stability of the 3-wheeled stability feature, it is one safe and innovative choice. We rest our case!
Give your back a break and see what MaxxHaul 70225 can do for you. There will be no reason for throwing out your back and cursing away at an inanimate object. This dolly offers two wide wheels for stability and just under a 40″ handle for the perfect leverage every time.
The MaxxHaul can help ease your foul language and curb your frustration. With its heavy-duty and solid steel frame build and 12-inch pneumatic tires, it’s easily your next all-around best. It works not only for your boat or jet ski trailer but also for utility trailers within the 600-lb weight capacity that it’s rated for. It puts up a great fight for the heavyweight 600 lb champion title.
If you buy this boat caddy, you can start looking forward to years of superb performance and minimal disappointment. Compared to other trailer dollies, the MaxxHaul offers generous stability with its wide 12.5 inch wheels. The MaxxHaul 70225 can offer little frustration and maximum convenience when you decide to put your money into a higher-quality trailer mover.
That’s sound spending to us.
Our take is that the benefits clearly outweigh the lone drawback. Additionally, we love the fact that this heavy-duty boat trailer can withstand just about any terrain you’ll be put up against. The wheels are perfect for grass, gravel, and sand making it one of the easier trailer dollies for you to use. Instead of being left behind in the dust, you will be cruising right through the sand.
Lastly, we almost forgot to mention that this boat trolley is very affordable – you wouldn’t even dig deep into your pocket.
The unit delivers what it says it will – that’s all-important. As to the minor issue, there’s a way to go around it – place the dolly inside the boat when you hit the road, not in your car trunk where it wrestles with your ice chest.
Now, isn’t that cool – I like this boat trailer moving dolly!
It conveniently makes rolling on the unleveled ground a lot easier! You’d know that this is made for higher weight capacity by its hitch ball size of 2” and height compatibility range of 21”-33”.
It’s always safer to choose boat trailer dollies with a rated capacity that’s around twice the tongue weight capacity of your loaded trailer. So for a little bit more in cost, this is one of those trailer dollies that will allow you to use it on a variety of trailers and still be on the safe side.
There’s one thing to keep in mind: the hitch ball attaches to couplers 2” in diameter or larger . So if you have trailers with couplers of 1-7/8”, then the TMD-800C would be a better fit.
If you are looking for a dolly with a much greater weight capacity, then this Giantex Heavy Duty Trailer Dolly is just what you need. It can sustain up to 660 pounds and can do various heights. It is made from a high-quality iron wire connecting procedure, making this dolly much stronger and more durable. The heavy-duty wood included in its construction also lends to its solidity.
This boat trailer dolly is ideal for moving smaller boat trailers, and it has an extra-long handle providing you with much more leverage when you need to move and maneuver the trailer around more effortlessly.
It also features two pneumatic tires (10.5″ x 3.5″) for smoother movements on a variety of different terrain. They also maintain good pressure for increased safety.
Assembly is easy and straightforward. Everything you need to put this dolly together is included in the instructions and illustrations provided with your purchase.
THE TAKEAWAY ON THIS TOWAbLE TRAILER DOLLY
If you are looking for an affordable boat trailer dolly that can hold more weight, this is definitely an option. It is ideal for smaller boat trailers, has an extra-long handle for additional leverage, and features all-terrain pneumatic tires offering good pressure. The high strength and durable build are great for the money you will spend. And the assembly is quick and easy, with clear directions included with the purchase.
We’ve started the list with a 600-lb capable dolly, so why not end it with a competitive opponent, such as Tow Tuff’s TMD-600AFF? The MaxxHaul is a heavy-duty fighter and challenges other trailer dollies for the crown title. In terms of comparability, the MaxxHaul truly puts others to the test and has an edge over other models with similar spec prices.
However, in case you’re wondering, could this adjustable trailer dolly possibly win over MaxxHaul if not for the yawning price gap? Let’s take a quick look and see what this strong competitor is all about.
They’re generally on equal footing when it comes to max tongue weight capacity, hefty steel frame construction, number of wheels, and 1-7/8” diameter hitch ball.
The price factor, where MaxxHaul is the hands-down one of the best boat trailer choices, is nothing to sneeze at. However, if your situation demands the flexibility of the TMD-600AFF solid steel trailer dolly in terms of hitch ball height, then think no more about it.
The hitch ball’s added height is an absolute bonus if you can afford it and need it. This would be the case to stretch for that extra much-needed benefit rather than regret not getting a higher hitch ball in the end.
It is much more important to be safe than sorry if you think you could really use the extra length to levy the tongue weight capacity. You shouldn’t compromise usefulness in this case, it could end up biting you in the butt at the end of the day when your trailer dolly can handle the weight capacity.
The boat trailer dollies we’ve featured and ranked have several different strengths and weaknesses. It is important to carefully examine each dolly to figure out which one might be best for you and your specific needs, whether that be weight capacity, solid rubber wheels, a long handle, or easy steering.
Always choose a dolly based on its strength that responds to what you need, and not solely on specs. Simply put, don’t buy an expensive dolly simply because it’s huge or rated with high capacity.
Ensure you have a specific feature in mind, like easy steering for maneuvering tight spaces or a long handle for some extra needed length. Buying a dolly that has just way too many tips and tricks up its sleeve can leave you confused and your wallet empty.
Sometimes the simple dollies do best in certain situations, and they can save you money in the long run. However, if there are specific qualities that you can’t imagine compromising on, spending a bit extra on the best boat trailer dolly could be the perfect way to save you the headache, frustration, and regret in the long run. Sometimes splurging a bit can be the best bet for your ideal trailer dolly.
Don’t forget to measure your trailer’s coupler height, determine its maximum loaded weight capacity, and find out other such details. These details can help you swiftly understand which trailer mover will compliment you and your needs the best.
Determine the tongue weight capacity of your loaded trailer (9%-15% of gross weight) and choose a trailer dolly with around twice this figure. In other words, don’t pay for impressive numbers if you don’t need them.

Still have questions? Read on below for answers to some of the more commonly asked questions.
Why do you need a boat trailer dolly?
You will find that a boat trailer dolly makes it much easier to move and maneuver your boat trailer with much less effort. It saves your back from dealing with the trailer weight while allowing you more precision when moving your trailer. It helps even if you are working within a tight space.
What is the difference between an electric trailer dolly and a hand trailer dolly?
When you want to do the moving yourself, you will choose a hand trailer dolly. You attach your trailer to the dolly and then pull and push on the handle to move the trailer. When you have an electric trailer dolly, there is a motor that powers the wheels of the dolly.
The controls are typically on the handle, allowing you to move the dolly back and forth. It is powered by a battery and is connected to the wheel axle and the chain. It allows for much easier steering and movement.
A motorized trailer dolly is ideal for people who don’t want to perform any lifting of any kind but still want effortless maneuverability. It makes moving the trailer easier to handle without any lifting on your part.
Is the ball height adjustable on a boat trailer dolly?
The level of adjustment you have all depends on the brand you choose to purchase. You can’t always adjust the ball height on each trailer dolly. If you choose a dolly without the ball adjustment feature, then the height of the trailer can be adjusted. The ball size can also be bigger or smaller, so if it can’t be adjusted, you can still adjust the other components.

This unique trailer design makes hauling your Laser Pico a breeze! Simply roll on, secure, and go. It is easily managed by one person. The trailer can fit both Seitech and Dynamic dolly brands
***Trailers are shipped broken down and require assembly***

Received product. Assembly required, directions don’t have good illustrations, does the job but could show better illustrations and detailed instructions. Trailer and quality appears to be very good. First issue is that product says it is compatible with dynamic trailers. This is not accurate, or misleading, it fits a specific dynamic trailer only. I bought trailer for my Melges 14, (4.267 meters / Laser is 4.2 meters) Melges 14 very similar to dimensions of a laser. I have a dynamic trailer for Melges 14, however it is a different model than the laser dolly. When assembled I put my Melges 14 on trailer with Dynamic trailer the Melges uses. Does not fit and can it be used. Assembling the laser specific Dynamic trailer that came with purchase and will put Melges 14 on that dolly and hopefully Melges will work with the shorter dolly (about 5 inches) and be safe and trailerable. Will update once completed. Just be aware that you need a specific Dynamic trailer , and can only be used with that one.
