Portofino Yacht Charters
Once a tiny fishing village nestled between forests of pine trees and olive groves, the scenic beauty of the idyllic Mediterranean setting of Portofino have made it one of the world’s most desirable superyacht destinations. While its crescent shaped waterfront lined with pastel hued architecture is now filled with chic bars, restaurants and cafes, the town has successfully retained its rustic Italian charm and elegant ambience.
Portofino Luxury Yacht Charter Guide From multi-coloured fishing boats bobbing on the surface to magnificent luxury motor yachts , Portofino’s harbour is full of an array of vessels. The cobbled waterfront piazza is great for shopping in the designer boutiques and people watching from the cafés and restaurants whilst the winding streets lead off to a great selection of art galleries and historic sights. Widely considered the jewel of the Italian Riviera, during peak summer season the harbour becomes a hub of activity and is particularly popular with the elite SuperyachtSet. If you want to avoid the crowds however, head out after August as the weather is usually still warm until the end of October.
Superyacht Vacations in Portofino There are a number of breath taking sights to see in Portofino, both natural and architectural. Hiking through the flora-filled hills is a popular yacht charter activity during an excursion ashore, stopping off to see local attractions such as the Church of St. Martin (Divo Martino) and the Castello Brown hilltop fortress. Northwest from the village, steep paths will lead you through vineyards and orchards to Olmi and on to San Fruttuoso, while the best sandy beach is the sparkling cove at Paraggi, 2km back towards Santa Margherita on the coast road.
Luxury Yacht Charter Itineraries in Portofino The Italian Riviera on the Ligurian Coast is a treasure trove of charter itinerary delights that are best seen from the decks of a superyacht. Portofino is no-doubt a must-see destination, as are La Spezia, Genoa and Cinque Terre – a succession of five coastal Italian villages perched on the cliffs looking over the glorious Mediterranean waters.

Board your yacht, but spend the day anchored in Portofino, a small, world famous, fishing village, laying on the Italian Riviera, filled with pastel-colored houses, luxurious boutiques, restaurants and resorts. Visit its cobbled square Piazzetta and dine at [Hotel Splendido](https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/italy/portofino/belmond-hotel-splendido/dining), overlooking the mega yacht filled harbor, or climb to Castello Brown for a scenic view of the Tigullio Gulf .
Punta Chiappa
Drop anchor in San Fruttuoso beach to visit the famous San Fruttuoso Abbey and to dive to the huge bronze statue of Christ with open arms . Later drop anchor in Punta Chippa to enjoy a swim in its clear and calm water against the dramatic backdrop of pools of rock. Finally, tender ashore to Camogli an exquisite seaside village comprised of gorgeously colored palazzi and houses.
2-Hour Cruise
Begin your cruise to the infamous Cinque Terre with its crystal waters, rugged coastline and five beautiful hillside towns. Drop anchor in Monterosso to kayak to its many coves, or tender ashore to visit its old town full of seafood restaurants and boutiques. Later sail to Vernazza and step ashore onto its tiny port surrounded by colorful houses and a charming piazza lined with restaurants and bars.

Or simply spend the day exploring Elba’s rugged cliffs with its enchanting bays and sandy beaches, romantic fishing villages and ancient castles
Saint-Florent
Begin your day cruising to Capraia , a unique rocky island created as a result of a volcanic eruption about 9 million years ago. Drop anchor at Cala Rosa Cove and spend the morning enjoying the crystalline water set against an amazing red rocky backdrop. In the afternoon sail to Saint-Florent, Corsica’s answer to St. Tropez; a bustling harbour town with a marina lined with luxury yachts and home to many bars and excellent restaurants

Portofino & Ligurian Coast Yacht Charter
For decades, luxury yacht charter groups to the Ligurian Coast - also known as the Italian Riviera - have adored the tiny and beautiful port of Portofino in Italy. As a commune of Genoa that has welcomed aristocrats, artists and celebrities over the centuries, Portofino provides a taste of the finer things in life, evolving with the times from a small fishing village on the rugged east coast and embracing its popularity while preserving its myriad charms.
Colourful buildings and quaint cobblestone streets meander away from the port that attracts sailing yachts and motor yachts alike. Cafes, boutique shops and gelatarias spill out into the harbour piazza from where you can watch the superyachts come and go, or take in the breath-taking views from on top of the hill.
The surrounding region is also a delight to culture-seekers, wine tasters, water sports fans and those looking to do nothing more than take life at their leisure and make the most of the services on board: The Cinque-Terre villages are carefully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Sites best accessed by water. Sperm whales and dolphins are regular visitors to the area that will be a magical encounter during any swim.
In Genoa, immerse yourself in the 16th Century palaces and residences of Via Garibaldi and at Forte dei Marmi guests can spoil themselves with lavish spas, Michelin-starred restaurants, high-end shops and a spectacular beach that stretches for miles.
5 quick reasons to visit Portofino & the Ligurian Coast:
Sensational UNESCO World Heritage Sites, fantastic snorkel and dive sites, delicious cuisine and wine tasting tours, golden sand beaches, incredible shopping
Portofino & the Ligurian Coast Yacht Charter Experiences
The Ligurian coastline is scenic and spectacular, combining colourful buildings with historic alleyways spilling over with vivid bougainvillea. At night, lantern-style electric lights create a romantic ambiance that makes the country of passion the perfect place to propose, have a honeymoon or celebrate an anniversary.
Sanremo or Genoa is the perfect place to begin, end or extend your luxury yacht charter due to its proximity to the French Riviera yacht charter grounds - another fantastic region to explore. In addition to Via Garibaldi, there are numerous theatres and residences to visit around Piazza Raffaele de Ferrari, including the Doge's Palace and Christopher Columbus's house.
Follow the curve of the coast to the empty beaches of Punta Chiappa on the cape, then on to Cala dell'Oro and most importantly the Portofino Marine reserve where the Christ of the Abyss statue is located: Snorkellers will be able to see the statue through the clear water, whereas Scuba divers can get up close and descend the 40m/131ft to see the marine life swimming around its base. On dry land there is also the historic abbey and museum Abbazia di San Fruttuoso, which discusses the lives of the prisoners held there and the graffiti that they left behind.
Further down the Italian coast you'll sail upon 'Cinque Terre' - A succession of five coastal villages, all with the same spectacular views of the seas. These villages are less expensive and less sophisticated than their more popular sister, Portofino, yet they are a spectacular sight from your luxury yacht and each has its own unique charms to accompany its clean and clear beaches. Hikers looking to spend extra time on land can take the famous and stunning walk along this coastal route that links the five towns.
From Cinque Terre, guests can choose whether to indulge in some contemporary delights in Forte dei Marmi and Livorno with its top quality restaurants, beach clubs and bars, or immerse yourselves further in nature at Porto Venere and Palmaria. Caparia and Elba are both situated within the Tuscany National Park and are perfect for water sports above and below the water: Octopus, starfish and a massive variety of fish can be found around the vivid sea corals, walls and caves. Further south is Civitavecchia, the gateway to Rome and her splendid architectural and historical gems.
The types of yacht charter available in Portofino & Cinque Terre Italy include all the main types such as large crewed motor yachts, sailing yachts, catamaran, sailboats, luxury yachts and off-course the ever increasing super yacht charter. Like most of the Mediterranean, the Italian yacht chartering season generally runs from April to the end of October. Just like the favourite hideaways of the rich and famous, Portofino and the Italian Riveria is enjoying ever increasing popularity and success as a destination for Western Mediterranean luxury yacht charters.
Things to Consider:
Yachting seasons & climate:.
Portofino and the Ligurian Coast in the summer has that perfect balance between summer sunshine and cool breezes, with temperatures sitting around a comfortable 24°C/75°F and winter temperatures around 9°C/48°F. October tends to be the wettest month with June through to August the driest period, and from June until September, the sea temperature sits at a warm 20°C/68°F and above.
Clothing to Pack For Your Charter
Although beachwear is acceptable along the coast, smart-casual is the usual dress code for restaurants and bars with elegant eveningwear for concerts and casinos in the larger destinations.
Light layers are perfect for the summer months and a jacket will stave off the chill in the evening. When visiting religious sites, clothing should cover shoulders and thighs.
Main Ports and Marinas:
Porto Antico (Genoa), Marina di Portofino, Porto di Portovenere, Porto Mirabello, Porto di Livorno, Portoferraio
Famous Restaurants & Clubs:
Paolo e Barbara restaurant (Sanremo), Winterose Wine Bar (Portofino), Ristorante Puny(Portofino), La Peranza (Santa Margherita), Babicio (Portovenere), La Pia (La Spezia),

Best time to go:

The charter was an amazing experience. The highlight of our trip for all 11 of us. We really enjoyed the crew immensely. The food was outstanding (the chef is Mexican as are we). The itinerary was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed each place we stopped. There was only one significant problem. We didn't have enough time!!! So as you can see, we are charterers now. We will always relish the moments on Andiamo in every way. F.O from USA chartered M/Y ANDIAMO in, Portofino, Bonifaccio, Porto Cervo, Corsica , France in August

Often called the "pearl of the Riviera," Portofino has long been fashionable to call "pompous," and today it is a very chic port to visit on a luxury yacht. Initially, it was a “gas station” for the merchant sailors of Genoa, by the beginning of the 20th century it was a quiet, albeit very beautiful fishing village. To add to this mystery, Portofino has a mythical color in its history.
Pliny the Elder claimed that the Romans founded the city, calling it Portus Dolphini, or Port of the Dolphins, due to the large number of these frolic animals in the Tigullian Bay.
Discovered by German and British tourists in the 1920s, by the 1950s, tourism had crowded out fishing boats. Thus, Portofino became a favorite for Princess Grace, Richard Burton and Liz Taylor , whose other favorite island is Ischia, also Italian. Situated in stunning natural beauty, this city today is a chic marina and offers exclusive boutiques, fine dining restaurants and coastal cliffs teeming with pastel colored villas.
“Interior” of the city
You can start a yacht strictly in the tiny “central part” of Portofino Marina, or anchor, or find a mooring ball inside the harbor, or anchor right at the entrance to the harbor of the National Park. In any case, docking requires a reservation in advance, which is reflected in the price. This, however, is the best of traditional Italian fishing villages with facades painted in all shades of earthly Tuscan color.
Take a stroll through the small streets and enjoy gorgeous shopping. Maybe have tea or sit in the garden, for example, at the Chuflay restaurant in Belmond Splendido Mare in the harbor, or have a drink on the terrace at the Belmond Spendido located high above the harbor on a hillside . Enjoy your meal in a small restaurant or simply soak up the atmosphere and life of this little piece of paradise from the stern of your yacht.
Things to do in Portofino
- Shopping : in stores selling goods from Missoni, Dior, Prada, Hermes, Salvatore Ferragamo and Louis Vuitton, hidden along main streets and small side streets, you can find a pretty chic collection of fashion clothes.
- Walking : exit the main square on the south side of the harbor along the point of land protecting the harbor from the Ligurian Sea to see the Church of St. George, “Castello Brown” and at the end - the lighthouse. A walk along this land point offers stunning views of Portofino harbor and villas located on the opposite side of the harbor, and the Ligurian Sea on the other.
- Hiking : An extensive network of trails runs through the hillsides that are part of the surrounding Portofino Regional Park. There are also many coastal paths that run along the hillsides surrounding the harbor and outside the land facing the south side of the harbor. In addition to the trails, there are also small coastal winding roads that pass fabulous villas in the surrounding hills.
- “Belmond Hotel Splendido” and “Belmond Splendido Mare” : one 5-star hotel located above Portofino harbor, considered one of the best hotels in Europe, as well as a great cocktail destination with great views before sunset or 4-course dinner. The second is a port, with a wonderful restaurant “Chuflay”, in the garden, right by the harbor, great for drinking, tea, lunch or dinner.
This pearl of the small harbor is very sheltered and hidden in the surrounding slopes. Beautiful water is surrounded by the facades of old plastered and countless Tuscan buildings. You can drop by here for a quick visit or spend a longer time, relax and enjoy the slower pace of life in this traditional fishing village, which has chic world when you rent a private yacht.

Berth Description
Marina di Portofino is the most famous harbour in the world, a symbol of beauty and exclusivity, it is nestled in the ancient fishing village charged with history. Today, Portofino is one of the chicest, trendy and romantic tourist destinations of the Italian Riviera (or Liguria).
Founded under the Roman Empire and named “Portus Delphini” after the dolphins that inhabited the coast, the small seaside town of Portofino, nestled in the heart of a natural park of the same name, is the most prized destination in the world for luxury yachting. Marina di Portofino is actually a natural harbour with spectacular scenery. From the promontory, the view of the marina and the city is exceptional. But Portofino reserves many other pleasures for its visitors, like strolls in between its houses with coloured facades, or the exploration of the crystalline depths of its marine reserve. The town is home to several luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants and trendy bars lining the famous “Piazzetta”, where it is nice to sunbathe on a terrace.
In the middle of the natural peninsula formed by the entrance to the harbour, Marina di Portofino forms a crescent moon around a quiet pool and can accommodate 220 boats and yachts, but the place is very limited. The majority of vessels that can berth in the port do not exceed 12 meters in length, although there are some posts for units up to 22 meters. Its main dock, Molo Umberto I, has 14 berths for larger units. Furthermore, it is possible for two Megayachts up to 70 meters long, to anchor in Baia Cannone. In order to properly receive more yachts, 3 anchorage zones and 2 floating jetties 0.3 nautical miles outside the harbour have been designed to comply with ISPS security standards.
