Koru is a 127-metre sailing yacht currently delivered from Oceanco in the Netherlands. Reportedly commissioned for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos , the superyacht is a three-masted schooner built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The yacht is the world’s largest sailing yacht and the longest yacht built in the Netherlands. The yacht was constructed at Oceanco’s Alblasserdam facilities and later moved to Rotterdam where she waited to complete sea trials at a dock in Eemhaven.
The yacht was delivered to Mallorca in April 2023. The price of Koru has never been disclosed. She is expected to have a gross tonnage of 3300 GT. The yacht is powered by kinetic energy generated by the sails, but like most sailing yachts, she will have engine power as well.
She will join five other Oceanco yachts measuring over 100 metres and ten other superyachts built in the Netherlands measuring over 100 metres.
Koru main features
Koru has a navy hull, red bootstripe, and double-deck wooden coach house. Her profile is characterised by a long bowsprit and a classic canoe stern which will provide enhanced privacy while the yacht is in port. There is also a sizeable dip pool visible on the aft, as well as a crow’s nest on the mizzenmast.
Koru and the De Hef bridge
In 2021, the yacht was the subject of considerable controversy when it emerged that the historic Koningshaven Bridge, also known by the name De Hef, would need to be dismantled to allow the masts to pass under. However, in August 2022, one of the yacht’s masts was seen being transported along the Nieuwe Maas to be stepped elsewhere and the bridge remained untouched. The height of the mainmast is thought to be between 65 and 85 metres.
Koru's secondary yacht
Koru will be accompanied by a support vessel which is thought to be built by Damen Yachting, another Dutch yachtbuilder, which specialises in ocean-going shadow vessels and explorer yachts This yacht will be used to carry toys, tenders and additional crew.
In 2019, there were a number of rumours speculating that Lürrsen’s 136 metre Flying Fox was built for Jeff Bezos; however an Amazon spokesperson refuted the claims.

KORU under sail for the second time spotted by us!
The last days we have had the enormous luck to witness KORU on our path. For one moment we were under Collission course with the yacht with a 0.2m CPA. On tuesday16/05/2023 we just finished with a half day trip with our guest and on the wayback the Captain spots the unique 3 mast in a distance. From there on quickly checking the AIS and yes ohhhhh yes, KORU pops up. As it was blowing 17 knots we were sailing under Genoa and Jef was on the engine going a steady 9.9 kts. I had advantage as I was the vessel under sail but changed course to be able to get a better vieuw of this splendid yacht. What an opportunity! As an enthousisast sailor we did had customers with us but my enthousiams convinced them quickly to get back later then foreseen A screenshot from the AIS:
Note: The Screenshot was made after alternating and slowing speed, the 2 vessels behind KORU are the helipad yacht and a back up +- 25 ft tender belonging to Jeff.
KORU anchored
In the evening of the 16th we see the Yacht anchored in a distance in the Bay of Santa Ponca, even at night and in a distance it is an impressive boat. Unfortunatly we do not own cameras that can capture this in darkness. The bad quality picture we did make I will spare you as you only see 3 red mastlights.
KORU under sail
On thursday 18/05/2023 we get to spot Jef Bezos and his toyboat for the 3rd time in Ibiza, here we get the first ever opportunity to see them raising the sails and sail off. The picture is made with an Iphone zoomed in but still quite impressive.
KORU Features: - 3 Masts - 127 Meters - +- 500.000.000 Dollar - 2nd Longest Yacht in the world
- As high as the piramids of Gizeh - Swimming pool
The word "Koru" means "new beginning" in Māori. The yacht is a lined schooner with three tall masts and a bowsprit. The hull is sleek black and a white superstructure. Although not much is known about the yacht's interior, the deck is said to have a swimming pool and several lounges. The downside to this superyacht? No helicopter can land on the deck. And this means Bezos has had a separate yacht built aptly named Wingman. On this support vessel, Bezos can store his helicopter and other gadgets. The video below shows the first images of the yacht without sails. CONTROVERSY:
Last year Koru was transported from the shipbuilding facilities located in Alblasserdam to Rotterdam using the canal network in Holland. There was a contentious issue that emerged in Rotterdam, where locals threatened to pelt eggs en masse over rumors that Oceanco was going to dismantle a historical bridge temporarily. This move was meant to create clearance for the yacht in order to pass, since she exceeded the bridge’s maximum height of 131 feet. However, an alternative route was found and the yacht left in the dead of night to evade attention. We are not even taken about the controversy about a man owning so much wealth and mistreating the low skilled workers working as amazon drivers or warehouse organisers.
ABEONA Features: - Helipad - 279 Feet - +- 75.000.000 Dollar - 2Carry's up to 45 people
- Largest support vessel in the world
Second hand bought, was originally named YS 7512. The 279-footer is longer than many yachts and is a beautiful vessel with a grey hull and an orange stripe for a strawberry brand.
The boat that looks more like Sailing Yacht A's baby is named after the goddess of voyages and departures. Besides a helipad, it has a hangar that can carry a D14 value helicopter. It comfortably seats 45 people and can carry a host of toys, including watercraft, seabobs and even a submarine.

Jeff Bezos' yacht : 125-metre "Koru" sails!
Sören Gehlhaus
· 27.05.2023
There is no getting around Jeff Bezos' new fleet of 125-metre "Koru" and 76-metre "Abeona". YACHT's sister magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV first spotted the fleet on the pier of the Club de Mar off Palma de Mallorca and then at anchor at the Cannes Film Festival. During the passage, the sails were probably also in the wind. After the Dutch shipyard Oceanco invited project representatives on board for test runs on the North Sea, spotters always kept "Koru" under engine power. Even off Mallorca, the longest yacht ever built in the Netherlands was initially only documented on trips without sails. But then the white sheet was hoisted and the 17 metre wide steel hull finally took to the water.
From the three booms, the crew actually unfurled mainsails on gaff booms and three headsails. The furlers were supplied by Reckmann Yacht Equipment from Rellingen in Schleswig-Holstein. Two furling systems, each over two metres long and weighing 900 kilograms, sit on the jib boom, another on the foredeck. Three Reckmann engineers spent a year planning and calculating the system before it was manufactured entirely from stainless steel. With four-digit sail areas, it can be assumed that the foresails will be hauled in hydraulically and that a corresponding unit will operate below deck.

With figurehead and water cannons
Visually, there are certain parallels to the "Eos", which is managed by Barry Diller. The US media entrepreneur is a friend of Bezos, who in turn has been spotted on board the 93 metre long Lürssen sailing ship and is also said to have modelled the interior on "Eos".
In Maori, the language of New Zealand's indigenous people, "Koru" means "new beginning". This is fitting as the 59-year-old is said to have proposed to his 53-year-old partner Lauren Sánchez on board. Both are divorced and come from Albuquerque in the state of New Mexico. CNN reported that "Koru" was already cruising off the south of France at the time; paparazzi shots showed Sánchez leaning against the teak railing and in the tender of "Abeona" with an engagement ring on her hand. The figurehead of the three-masted gaff schooner also resembles the former journalist and pilot, who has her own company providing film productions with aerial shots. But final doubts remain as to whether the US billionaire has allowed himself to be carried away by such a clumsy gesture.
Apparently, the Amazon founder does not want to sail exclusively in the northern Mediterranean or the Caribbean, otherwise he would not have insisted on the installation of water cannons to ward off pirate attacks. The polished stainless steel nozzles are displayed openly, from "Koru" amidships on the main deck, on "Abeona" they are at the stern. They look like models from the Swedish engineering company Unifire, which are also used to autonomously fight fires on land and at sea - think of e-car cargo that has caught fire. The large model moves a maximum of 5,500 litres of water per minute up to 85 metres, can also be controlled by app via smartphone and can also produce festive fountains.

Reports from earlier this month suggested that Jeff Bezos was finally getting his hands on his new $500 million superyacht . But it seems the Amazon founder is going to have to wait just a little bit longer for his new toy.

During sea trials , a ship is tested to ensure that everything is working as it should be. Depending on what happens during this go-round, Koru could be sent back to the shipyard for final adjustments before making its way to Bezos, a person familiar with the boat’s travels told Bloomberg, requesting anonymity to discuss private matters. (An Amazon spokesperson didn’t respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.)
As yacht fans surely know already, Koru is a pretty big deal in the maritime world: It’s currently the largest sailing yacht afloat, and one of the biggest ever built by the Netherlands-based Oceanco . On board, among other amenities, you’ll find a large pool and more than a few outdoor lounges. One feature that’s missing, though? A helipad. Because the sails of the ship are so large (they’re the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza, for some perspective), there wasn’t room for landing a helicopter. As such, Bezos has commissioned a support boat for the task. That vessel is currently crossing the Atlantic and heading for Gibraltar, according to tracking data cited by Bloomberg.
Koru ’s size has created more than one headache for Bezos so far. Along with the helipad issue, the boat was going to cause a historic steel bridge in Rotterdam to be dismantled . The city initially acquiesced to Oceanco’s request, but there was enough public outrage over the demand that the shipbuilder ended up retracting its ask. Instead, Koru was pulled out to sea without its massive masts.

The Bezos 500 million dollar yacht returns to Palma
The founder of amazon took possession of his new vessel in mallorca last summer, one of the world’s largest super yachts went "missing" after leaving mallorca, amazon founder’s billionaire cruise which began in mallorca continues, koru is back in palma. | teresa ayuga.

Koru, the superyacht belonging to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is back in Mallorca , considered the world’s richest man, is back in Mallorca, almost a year after she sailed into the Bay of Palma .
She is the second largest private sailing yacht in the world and, in contrast to the former, it is more traditional in its exterior appearance, which is inspired by this type of traditional sailing vessel.
Valued at 500 million dollars, the Koru also has a mother ship, the 74-metre Abeona, acting as a supply ship for helicopters, auxiliary boats and water sports equipment.
Despite its dimensions, this enormous sailing boat only accommodates 18 guests served by 40 crew members and last year she spent most of the summer cruising the Mediterranean, making a number of visits to Mallorca enroute.
Koru is a luxury custom superyacht. The main peculiarity of this yacht is it moves driven by the kinetic energy generated by its huge sails. This mechanism transforms the movement of the ship into energy, but if the wind does not blow, it has a powerful motor.

Jeff bezos’ $500m yacht has a 246-foot support ship, lauren sanchez figurehead.
Much like Amazon, Jeff Bezos’ $500 million superyacht offers every bell and whistle imaginable, from A to Z.
The colossal, triple-masted Koru began its career serving the world’s third richest man this week, cruising the Mediterranean around Mallorca.
The 417-foot schooner first left Rotterdam in the Netherlands for sea trials in February. Dropping anchor in Mallorca put its jaw-dropping size on full display.
It also showed the extent of Bezos’ fleet: Not only did the Koru sail into harbor, so did its support vessel, Abeona, a mega-boat in its own right, the luxurious fast-launches used to move between the two — and aerial support in the form of his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez’s personal helicopter.
Sanchez also seemingly serves as the fleet’s mascot, with the Koru’s figurehead, a part of traditional large sailing ships, modeled after her.
The Koru is the world’s tallest sailing yacht. Its three huge 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail-power alone.
The masts are so tall that Dutch officials considered dismantling the 95-year-old Koningshaven Bridge to allow the vessel past the 131-foot span on its journey from the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam through Rotterdam to the North Sea.
That controversial plan was scrapped after local backlash, including residents being urged to toss eggs at Bezos’ “latest toy,” the New York Times reported . The superyacht, previously known as Y721, was instead towed to a shipyard in Rotterdam, downstream of the bridge, without its masts.
Bezos, 59, and the bikini-clad Sanchez, 53, appeared ready for the summer as the pair soaked up the sun aboard Koru, a Māori word for loop or coil that symbolizes new beginnings — possibly a coy reference to their relationship.
Sanchez started secretly dating the Blue Origin founder in the summer of 2018. Bezos then announced in January 2019 he and his wife Mackenzie were divorcing after 25 years , while Sanchez finalized her split from husband Patrick Whitesell later that year.
Sanchez plays a critical role in the Bezos fleet: As a helicopter pilot, she was seen landing on the Abeona. She was also at Bezos’ side when he took the wheel of the Koru.
Koru was first seen under construction in 2021 at Oceano’s yard. The company is owned by a fellow billionaire, Oman’s Mohammed Al Barwani.
As many as 18 guests can enjoy the yacht’s three outdoor decks, including one with two pools. The vessel, which has a crew of up to 36, also boasts a cinema, meeting spaces and lounges, Luxuo reported .
Every detail is designed for luxury, even down to the masts’ technology.
Bezos opted for high-tech “in-boom furlers,” which store the vast canvases at the bottom of the mast, above the deck. Each weighs nearly 2,000 pounds, but they allow his deck to be kept clear of ropes.
Clearing ropes out of the way maximizes entertaining space, and allows for a hot tub forward of the mainmast.
The yacht is also built for speed. Its three masts provide “one of the largest sail areas ever seen in yachting,” according to SuperYacht Times .
The Koru’s original designer, and the identity of its captain, remain secret. Boat International noted : “With the elegant curve of the bow and a bowsprit, the lines are certainly classic, but we still have no idea which designer drew them.”
The Cayman Islands-flagged vessel also has engine power like most sailing yachts.
And while other billionaires measure yachts by size, Bezos’ is only the 24th largest.
However, since Koru’s masts rule out a helicopter deck, the billionaire commissioned a support vessel, Abeona, named for the Roman goddess of outward journeys.
In addition to a helipad, the 246-foot Abeona features an extra two staterooms for four guests and as many as 45 crew and support staff.
It’s the largest custom-built support vessel ever manufactured by Damen Yachting. On board in Mallorca were at least four jetskis, two fast launches, and an additional dinghy. Its heavy winch is capable of lifting a small submarine, although Bezos is not believed to have one thus far.
The “classic exterior lines” of Koru, are reminiscent of another billionaire’s boat: Eos, a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller, 81, who may have inspired Bezos after hosting him on the vessel.
Favored by megastars like Katy Perry and Bradley Cooper — who were Diller’s guests during 2019’s Google Camp in Sicily — the German-built Eos can accommodate up to 16 guests and 21 crew.
It was the largest private sailing yacht in the world when it was completed in 2006. Diller, chairman of IAC and Expedia, who is worth $3.9 billion, bought it three years later. Intriguingly, its figurehead is modeled on Diller’s wife Diane von Fürstenberg, the fashion designer.
But the $200 million, 305-foot schooner is now dwarfed by Bezos’ boat.
As Koru sailed in the Balearic Sea this week off the coast of Spain, Bezos’ boat symbolically surges past several other tech billionaires’ vessels – including Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s $80 million, 240-foot Dragonfly, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s, $160 million, 288-foot Musashi.
It will cost Bezos, 59, an estimated $25 million per year to operate Koru, but the world’s third-richest man isn’t likely to need a loan with his $140.6 billion fortune, according to Forbes .
Bezos’ use of sailpower sets him apart from most billionaires, but others are seeking a hi-tech zero-carbon power source: a Japanese billionaire has reportedly commissioned the world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht.
Germany’s Lürssen Yachts announced in March that they had a hydrogen-powered superyacht in advanced construction.
It declined to identify the future owner of the unnamed superyacht, but specialist publication FuelCellsWorks reported Japanese billionaire tech Yusaku Maezawa, worth an estimated $1.7 billion, commissioned the innovative effort.
Dubbed Project Cosmos, the 374-foot superyacht is designed by Apple’s legendary Marc Newson and was first unveiled in early March at Lürssen’s facility in Rendsburg, Germany.
Once completed as soon as next year, the vessel is expected to utilize emission-free fuel cell technology to generate power lasting up to 15 days while anchored or to travel as far as 1,000 miles at slow speeds.
Three other major shipyards, including in Italy and the Netherlands, are likely to launch their own hydrogen started outfitting newly constructed vessels with hydrogen fuel cells as of March 2022, with the first models reportedly expected in 2024.
Other megayachts expected to soon join Bezos’ Koru in the water include two Lürssen models, the 475-foot Luminance and the 400-foot Jag, and Feadship 821, a 389-foot offering from the Netherlands manufacturer.
But even those won’t best the biggest megayacht in the world, the 593-foot Azzam, which launched in 2013 after being commissioned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates who died last year.
Azzam, which means determination in Arabic, reportedly cost more than $600 million and is nearly 60 feet longer than the world’s second-largest yacht, the 533-foot Eclipse, owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Those monster vessels are expected to be surpassed next year by REV, a 600-foot yacht under construction in Norway which will have space for 36 guests and 54 crewmembers, according to Boat International .
