SeaDream Yacht Club unveils 2027 Caribbean voyages

Program release comes as guests booking earlier and earlier in advance.

Go back to the e-newsletter

SeaDream Yacht Club has unveiled its spring 2027 voyages – a collection of “Best of the Best” small-ship Caribbean luxury cruises. The new 2027 voyages feature a collection of SeaDream’s most exclusive, sought-after yachting experiences in the region.

“We have listened to our guests, and will give them more of what they want, and more of what they love. This is simply put the best of the best of Caribbean yachting,” said Andreas Brynestad of SeaDream Yacht Club .

Both SeaDream’s twin yachts will sail in the Caribbean for the 2026/27 season. The 28 new voyages between January and April include 7-day voyages exploring the beauty of the US and British Virgin Islands, white-sand paradise beaches of Anguilla, and deep-blue waters and vibrant culture of French West Indies. A handful of voyages will explore Islands farther south, including Guadeloupe, Grenadines, St. Lucia and Barbados.

All the new voyages include at least one overnight stay – most of them in the Caribbean playground of St. Barths. Each departure also includes SeaDream’s signature Champagne & Caviar Splash® beach party where guests can embrace the yachting lifestyle with an opulent barbeque on a white sandy beach.

“We see a consistent and strong demand across markets for our unique yachting experiences,” said Brynestad.

“We also see that guests want to book their voyages earlier than before. This drives our decision of offering our 2027 voyages almost three years in advance.”

“It gives both our new and loyal guests an opportunity to plan ahead, and choose the exact voyage and experience they desire.”

Most of SeaDream’s spring 2027 Caribbean voyages will be round trips, offered from either San Juan, Puerto Rico, or St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. The yachts will also offer selected departures from St. Martin and Barbados.

“This provides our guests with easier and more convenient access to paradise than ever before, no matter where in the world you start your travels,” added Brynestad.

SeaDream says that by optimising its yachting itineraries at lower speed, and less fuel consumption, it will reduce burn and emissions by an estimated 15% in 2027, compared to the level in 2o25.

Last week, SeaDream announced the appointment of Jarrod Zurvas as the company’s new Director of Sales for Asia-Pacific, reflecting the boutique small ship operator’s focus on catering for growth out of this market.

SeaDream cancels order for new ship

SeaDream Innovation, SeaDream Yacht Club

The small-ship luxury cruise line SeaDream Yacht Club has cancelled plans to build its new ship, SeaDream Innovation .

The latest addition to the SeaDream Yacht Club fleet, the luxury ship was scheduled to be delivered in September 2021, built at Damen shipyards in the Netherlands.

“The response from our past guests and the market in general has been overwhelming, despite the ship not being scheduled for delivery for almost two years,” commented executive vice president Andreas Brynestad.

“Since the ship will not be delivered, all booked guests will be contacted and issued full refunds in the coming days.”

PC6 Polar Class and housing 110 staterooms,  SeaDream Innovation was set to be the third addition to SeaDream Yacht Club’s luxurious fleet. It was set to have three marinas, nine decks and a one-to-one guest to crew ratio.

The ship was set to outrank SeaDream I and SeaDream II – the cruise line’s existing, identical 95-passenger vessels – in both size and capacity.

Despite the termination of  SeaDream Innovation , SeaDream owner and chairman Atle Brynestad is said to be actively pursuing other newbuild opportunities.

“The company has been debt-free for several years and has the equity needed to expand the fleet. We hope to announce a new ship in 2020,” he said.

The line recently announced that the suites on SeaDream I  and  SeaDream II will both undergo refurbishment, with SeaDream II starting in spring 2020.

Review of SeaDream Yacht Club

SeaDream Yacht Club (seadream.com) is a privately-owned cruise line company headquartered in Norway (Oslo) . It was established in 2002 by Larry Pimentel and Atle Brynestad. Atle is a Norwegian industrialist and also the founder of the top-luxury brand  Seabourn .

SeaDream's Owner, CEO and Chairman is Atle Brynestad. The company's managing team is led by Bob Lepisto (President) and Andreas Brynestad (Executive VP). In September 2023, as Senior VP of Communications was appointed Rune Thomas Ege (previously employed by Hurtigruten /Group and Expeditions). In January 2024, Walter Littlejohn III was appointed CSO/Chief Sales Officer.

The company's Founder, Owner and Chairman Atle Brynestad (1953-born Norwegian) founded SeaDream Yacht Club and Seabourn Cruise Line as well as the Norwegian retail chain Smart Club AS (1995-founded/2008-acquired by Coop Norge SA) via his company CG Holding (Oslo-based holding company) specializing in investments in the retail trade and renewable energy services. CG Holding's assets include the Porsgrund Porcelain Factory (producing flatware) which is currently the only one in Norway still in operation.

One of the industry's small cruise lines , SeaDream delivers a luxurious, yet unpretentious "yacht cruise" experience in destinations, such as the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Northern Europe. Itineraries are quite flexible and allow the captain to linger in a port of call if passengers wish so, or to depart early in case rain spoils plans. Following the purchase of two luxury cruise ships (operated before that by Cunard ), the new all-inclusive line promoted its innovative style of cruising as "yacht-like". Since its first day of operation, formal wear code is not required as the onboard dress code is officially "resort-casual".

In 2022, the company celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a USD 10 million (EUR 8,8M) drydock refurbishment project for both yachts, conducted at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport Bahamas .

Highlights of the luxury brand's sea travel experience are the delicious cuisine, outstanding service, 5-star luxury hotel amenities, sophisticated enrichment program, and exotic itineraries to remote bays and harbors where other cruisers can be rarely seen.

SeaDream Yacht Club is one of the industry's most all-inclusive cruise lines. Its deals are inclusive of gratuities, all beverages (including alcohol and cocktails), all shore excursions and tours, also the equipment at the watersports marina platform, However, passengers have to pay extra for Spa treatments and the ultra-premium liquor brands at the onboard bars/lounges.

SeaDream yacht cruise ship

The following YouTube video is an official SeaDream release about its "top luxury yachting" experience. It shows all the yachts' best features, including suites as configurations/furniture and cabin amenities, all the sophisticated relaxation, entertainment and dining options on the ship, along with the onboard facilities and activities.

SeaDream cruise passengers are sophisticated, laid-back, well-heeled and well-traveled. Ages range largely, starting from guests in their 30s. Solo travelers and occasional large groups of family and friends are not uncommon, though couples predominate.

SeaDream fleet

SeaDream's current fleet includes the yachts  SeaDream 1 (1984-built as "Sea Goddess I"),  SeaDream 2 (1985-built as "Sea Goddess II") and  SeaDream Innovation (2021 September, newbuild on order ). However, in December 2019, the company canceled the SeaDream Innovation shipbuilding project and announced that a second-hand vessel will be eventually purchased in 2020.

All shipboard meals are open-seating, with many 2-seat tables available, making the brand a great choice for romantically inclined travelers. Weather permitting, dining is available on the yacht's open deck. Expensive Champagnes are poured generously. There is a weekly Champagne Splash party with caviar. Another unique offer on the yachts is the "sleeping under the stars" experience. It includes either an 8-person bed (on ship's open deck forward) or a double Balinese lounger facing the sea (aft of the "Top of the Yacht Bar").

In 2023, SeaDream announced plans to upgrade its yachts with shore power connectivity . SeaDream 2 was upgraded in 2023, while SeaDream 1 in 2024.

(Coronavirus crisis) Passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, SeaDream yachts suspended passenger shipping operations in the period March 18, 2020, through July 2021 .

Operations were planned to resume on September 7, 2020, but SeaDream started a mini-cruise program in Norway (June-September 2020) with 12-day Norwegian coastal itineraries between Oslo and Tromso on the superyacht SeaDream 1. SeaDream 1 restarted on June 26 (Mediterranean from Seville). SeaDream 2 restarted on June 26 (Greek Islands from Athens).

In early-November 2020, following a COVID outbreak on SeaDream 1, the company canceled the Caribbean 2020 winter program. All affected bookings received full refunds transferred as FCC (future cruise credit) with rebooking.

In August 2020, SeaDream introduced the "Ultimate Booking Assurance". The new policy guarantees a full monetary refund or 120% FCC for all bookings on voyages departing between July 22, 2020, and June 30, 2021, in case that the cruise is affected by travel restrictions from the customer's country of origin. Rebooking SeaDream cruises with rescheduling the initial booking is allowed even for not affected by travel restrictions voyages.

Itinerary of SeaDream Yacht Club

Currently, the company owns and operates two superyachts/sisterships - SeaDream I (1984-built) and SeaDream II (1985-built). SeaDream Innovation was a newbuild on order , planned for delivery and inauguration in September 2021. However, in December 2019, the company canceled the shipbuilding project and announced its intentions to instead acquire a second-hand vessel.

Cruises 2024-2025-2026

This 14-night voyage seamlessly combines two new Yachting the Greek Isles itineraries, presenting guests with the opportunity to explore 13 Greek ports aboard SeaDream I.

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the itinerary blends iconic Greek landmarks, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and picturesque yachting harbors. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a harmonious blend of cultural discovery and scenic marvels, while also indulging in activities like hiking, beachcombing, and exploring charming local villages.

The newly introduced 7-day Yachting the Greek Isles voyages in June and July 2025 promise unparalleled exploration of classic Greek locales, including several ports not previously visited by SeaDream.

These voyages offer signature SeaDream experiences such as overnight stays in  Mykonos  and late-night departures from  Santorini , allowing guests to savor the allure of these iconic destinations free from the crowds typically associated with cruise ships and day-trippers.

In addition to the 2025 offerings, SeaDream I and  SeaDream II continue to explore the Greek Isles in 2024 and beyond, reaffirming SeaDream Yacht Club's commitment to delivering exceptional yachting experiences in this captivating region.

Looking ahead to 2026, SeaDream Yacht Club plans to return to the Greek Isles with an array of new ports of call and the introduction of 14-day in-depth slow travel voyages, promising even more immersive experiences for discerning travelers.

SeaDream Yacht Club Upgrades Fleet with Shore Power Connectivity

  • December 12, 2023

Two SeaDream Ships

SeaDream Yacht Club will upgrade its entire fleet with shore power connectivity, the company said in a press release.

Being able to connect to shoreside power enables the yachts to turn off their engines and reduce emissions to zero in ports that offer shore power facilities, SeaDream noted.

“This is a significant milestone and an important step in our journey to more sustainable cruising,” said Andreas Brynestad of SeaDream Yacht Club.

The SeaDream II successfully underwent the upgrade during a recent drydock at Naval Rocha Yard in Lisbon, Portugal, while the SeaDream I will be upgraded during her planned yard stay in April 2024.

According to the company, the upgrades make SeaDream Yacht Club the first luxury cruise line to retrofit its entire fleet with shore power connectivity.

“Visiting some of the most beautiful and spectacular destinations on the planet comes with a responsibility. We are committed to having a positive impact in the communities and destinations we visit. Our employees, our guests, and our partners are all an important part of our ambition to inspire more sustainable travel,” said Brynestad.

The recent upgrade of shore power capabilities marks the latest in a decades-long commitment to sustainability in luxury travel, SeaDream said.

The company’s yachting itineraries are said to be optimized for slower speed and lower fuel consumption, the company added, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to traditional cruises.

SeaDream also said it was the first luxury cruise line to ban the use of cheap, polluting heavy fuel oil (HFO) in 2013. Since then, the company has powered its yachts with lighter, less polluting fuel, significantly reducing emissions.

Other green initiatives adopted by SeaDream include the introduction of a full plant-based menu, the addition of late-night departures and the removal of unnecessary single-use plastic.

All guests sailing with the company receive a personalized glass bottle, which can be refilled at water stations across the yachts, significantly reducing the number of plastic water bottles, the company explained.

In addition, biodegradable, organic bath amenities from Elm Organics Norway are available in all staterooms and suites.

  • Windstar Star Legend Review: My Small-Ship Cruising Experience

Picture of Theresa Russell

Theresa Russell

  • August 22, 2024

The Windstar Star Legend is part of the 180° From Ordinary experience. That’s the focus of Windstar, and my sailing on the Windstar Star Legend was an extraordinary experience.

A large white cruise ship named Star Legend, part of the Windstar fleet, docked at a port, with two individuals in safety vests walking on the adjacent pier.

My Windstar Star Legend Review

Two people stand on the platform of the docked Windstar yacht, overlooking the water. The yacht's stern is prominently visible, with a flag flying above.

Windstar Star Legend, previously Seabourn Pride , underwent a refurbishment in 2021. As part of the $250 Million Star Plus Initiative, Star Legend was stretched by 84 feet. This all-suite ship added 50 new suites ship.

Due to its size, the Star Legend stops at many smaller ports that larger ships cannot visit. My trip circumnavigated the British Isles, visiting Dublin and Belfast. The ship sailed from Edinburgh and finished in London, right at the London Tower Bridge.

Our ports included:

  • Dun Laoghaire
  • Isles of Scilly

Arriving in Leith a day early, we hopped on a double-decker tour bus to explore Edinburgh before starting our cruise.

With just six passenger decks, Star Legend is simple to navigate, with no distance being far. It’s simple to get between venues without getting lost or spending time trying to figure out where you are. There are elevators at both ends of the ship, but it must be noted that all don’t go to the ship’s upper decks.

A well-lit hotel room with a queen-sized bed, a white sofa, two armchairs, a small coffee table, and a framed photograph on the wall. Glass doors with curtains lead to a balcony—a cozy space perfect for reading your Windstar Review or planning your next voyage on the Star Legend.

I sailed with my husband, and our cabin, Star Ocean View Suite 444, was ideal for our 10-night cruise on the Atlantic Archipelago Adventures voyage.

Upon entering our stateroom, I confirmed that we had made a good choice by sailing Windstar, as this brand was a new experience for us. The room’s layout brought back memories of a long-ago cruise on Seabourn Pride .

Both of us remarked about the size and comfort of the stateroom. I wondered if I would have preferred the bed near the entry, but after getting accustomed to the room, I knew this was the best arrangement. I recalled a ship designer’s comment that you don’t go directly into the bedroom when you enter a home.

My concern that I wouldn’t be able to see out the window from the living area quickly dissolved. If the bed had been closer to the front door, we wouldn’t have had to squeeze past the foot of the bed to see the view or enjoy the comforts of the living room.

This stateroom cannot be converted to a two-twin configuration in the SS1 category. However, it worked for us, and we found the layout conducive to our traveling style.

A modern lounge with multiple sofas, armchairs, a central coffee table, and a chandelier. A large TV adorns the back wall, while a desk area sits in the rear of the room. This stylish space is reminiscent of a Star Legend suite—an ideal setting for an in-depth Windstar review.

With plenty of outlets in the bedroom area and USB ports, we appreciated the thought that went into the design of this cabin.

Across from the bed, the long vanity/table contained European and North American outlets and USB ports. At the vanity end of the space, there were large drawers. Toward the desk end of the counter, there was a fabric bench that fit under the desk. It was nice to have ample space to recharge electronics. A television hung above the vanity area of the counter.

Separating the living area from the bedroom, a solid drape was pulled out to divide the large suite into two private areas if desired. We had an inviting sofa with a coffee table in the suite’s living area. With such a configuration, we didn’t hesitate to order room service meals on several occasions. Opposite the couch, two additional upholstered chairs provided a comfortable seating alternative.

In the living area, where carafes of fresh water were provided daily, there was also a minibar equipped with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments.

Near the main entry to the cabin, a walk-in closet provides plenty of space for hanging clothes.

Modern hotel bar area with marble flooring, tall leather bar stools, overhead lighting, and potted plants, reminiscent of a scene from a Star Legend review.

A small stand has drawers for extra storage. One of the drawers hides a safe. Triangular-shaped shelfs work for additional storage. In the cabin are life preservers, waffle cloth bathrobes, and slippers.

The bathroom is right next to the closet. To navigate this modern and updated bathroom, one must step up into the toilet, which is typical of most ship bathrooms. Nobody needs a horn.

Two sinks make sharing the space easy, but there isn’t upper shelf space for the sink near the shower. A long shelf stretches below the sink the entire length of the vanity. Toiletries include L’Occitane products, and it is certainly nice to have various options.

Having one toiletry for each function instead of one pump liquid dispensing a product that works as body wash, hair wash, and who-knows-what-else is a real luxury.

The long shower has grab bars, a rain shower, and a handheld shower. The fluffy white shower rug gave the bathroom a homey feel and a soft landing for my feet.

A woman in a yellow shirt accepts a plate of food from an unseen person while sitting at a dining table with others. Several glasses of wine and plates of food are on the table, reminiscent of the fine dining reviews you might read about on a Windstar cruise like the Star Legend.

Star Legend offers a surprising number of dining options for a small ship. The choices of casual, grill, fine dining, and experimental will please the pickiest of guests.

The Yacht Club is a library-like gathering place with beverages and takeaway choices. Grabbing something and enjoying the view from the wall of windows is the perfect way to start the day.

This is the buffet offering that opens for lunch and breakfast. There is no dinner buffet on Star Legend. I’m not a fan of buffets, but I tried this option for breakfast and lunch. It’s possible to get eggs to order along with other traditional breakfast offerings. Food is scattered throughout the space, including in areas that require climbing down stairs.

For lunch, in addition to choosing from the many buffet choices, you can also get the cooked-to-order dish of the day or a burger or hotdog from Star Grill. You can order these from Veranda, or you can sit out at Star Grill and enjoy these and other dishes at this outdoor venue.

Star Grill

Outdoor dining area on a deck with wooden tables, glassware, and striped placemats. Cushioned chairs and glass panels enhance the candlelit ambiance overlooking the ocean under a canopy—a setting truly deserving of a glowing review aboard the Star Legend by Windstar.

Head to this casual outdoor space if you are looking for traditional grilled and BBQ foods under the guise of Steven Raichlen. There’s an excellent selection of international foods as well.

Elegantly set tables with white tablecloths, folded napkins, red roses, and wine glasses adorn the sophisticated dining area. A wine rack is seen in the background, reminiscent of a Star Legend review highlight.

This is a traditional main dining room in an elegant setting. Dinner is the only meal served at this open-seating venue. The menu changed daily, and there were vegetarian options. Classics like fish, chicken, and beef are always on the menu.

Veranda transforms into a more intimate space in the evening, becoming a unique dining experience. While dining outside in warm weather is possible, we found it a tad chilly to enjoy the outdoor area. We opted to sit in more intimate side areas of the space and enjoyed the low lighting and quiet atmosphere. Be sure to explore the gourmet salts that come with your meal.

A modern restaurant with neatly set tables, red and white chairs, warm lighting, colorful artwork, and a visible kitchen area that could easily be featured in a Star Legend review.

A specialty restaurant included in the fare, this restaurant by Anthony Sasso ranks as my favorite. Cuadro 44 describes itself as an eclectic Spanish restaurant. Tapas-style foods are meant for sharing. The tomato bread offered as an appetizer tantalizes the taste buds. Although a seemingly simple appetizer, the complex flavors made me return for more.

The tapas menu includes pork legs raised on acorns, anchovies, paella croquettes, and octopus. Main dishes include cod, chicken, lamb chops, and more. The menu designates the dishes’ origin in Spain.

The open kitchen allows for watching the chefs in action. Several seats are available facing the cooking area. The chefs’ orchestrated roles, primarily done in silence, added to the enjoyment of our meal.

With only 36 seats, Cuadro 44 requires reservations, as does Candles.

Officially, guests may only dine here and at Candles once, but especially if the ship isn’t full, it’s worth checking to see if space might be available.

Room service is always available with its menu. Moreover, anything offered on the Amphora menu could also be ordered through room service.

Entertainment

A group of people dancing on a wooden deck at night, illuminated by colorful lights, sets the perfect scene for an unforgettable Windstar experience.

Entertainment on Star Legend is primarily self-directed. Small groups sing or play for evening entertainment. During the day, trivia and cooking demonstrations gather guests together.

The ship has an open bridge policy, and it is worth a trip up top to see how it works.  All Windstar ships now have  Starlink high-speed internet if you need to stay connected .

Public Areas and Watering Holes

People relax on lounge chairs on a Windstar cruise ship deck under clear skies. The nearest person holds a red book, and the ocean is visible in the background.

In  Star Legend , most public areas also have  watering holes. Yacht Club on the upper deck offers a relaxing space for a snack, reading, or enjoying the view.

Outside at the Star Grill are sofas and chairs to enjoy conversation while enjoying a drink from the bar.

Back inside the ship, Compass Rose serves drinks while guests enjoy pre-dinner music. Demonstrations and other larger gatherings take place in the spacious lounge.

Fitness Center and Spa

The spa and fitness center prioritize wellness and fitness. Guests pay no additional fee for access to the sauna and thermal loungers. The fitness center may be smaller, but it offers everything guests need for a satisfying workout, including a pool and hot tub for post-workout relaxation.

While the sports deck has water toys, it was not open during our sailing. But in warmer weather, it’s something worthy of exploration.

Closing Thoughts

A man and a woman sit at a table on the Star Legend's deck, smiling and enjoying drinks under a clear blue sky with an ocean view.

Sailing on a new brand creates excellent expectations, excitement, and trepidation. How closely do the brochure and marketing reflect the experience? Could I survive for ten nights? Being on a ship and sailing guarantees my survival, but would it be an enjoyable experience?

From the minute I set foot on Star Legend , I knew I would be pretty happy to relax in these surroundings for the entire cruise. The space, the service, the food, and the serenity of Star Legend provide the perfect experience for those seeking a leisure trip. But, I immediately recognized this as an excellent opportunity for anybody working remotely.

Then again, the ports are so attractive that they could distract those working on the road. And while this would be a case where I sail for the ship, the ports of call are quite the draw—new ports interspersed with familiar favorites added intrigue to the itinerary.

Great food, like-minded cruisers, and comfortable surroundings made our Windstar yacht experience 180° from ordinary! I can’t wait to try their sailing ships.

Be sure to check the Windstar sailings . Searching may yield a luxury sailing at a competitive price.

Windstar cruises unveils first look at new star seeker ship.

The luxury cruise line’s newest ship will make its maiden voyage from Miami in January 2026.

eCard

Windstar Cruises is set to launch its latest ship in January 2026, marking the seventh addition to its fleet of luxury vessels.

This 224-guest ship will feature 112 spacious suites, most of which offer private verandas or floor-to-ceiling infinity windows. It will also have five included dining options, a full-service spa,  fitness facility, and a Watersports Platform allowing direct sea access.

Guests can expect minimalistic, neutral interiors inspired by the sea and sky, with suites finished by light wood and calming colours. Passengers travelling in larger groups can book into one of the two Horizon Owner’s Suites, which boast expansive wrap-around balconies and are located on the seventh deck.

Star Seeker

There will be 12 other accommodation categories, including ten ocean-view suites with convertible queen beds and spacious mosaic glass showers. In keeping with other Windstar ships, the Star Seeker will not have any interior cabins to ensure guests can make the most of the marine scenery.

Currently under construction in Portugal, the ship will embark on its maiden voyage in January 2026, sailing from Malaga to Miami.

After a naming ceremony in Miami, the Star Seeker will operate Caribbean cruises before traveling up the West Coast of America for a summer season in Alaska. It will then continue to Japan and south-east Asia, where it will reintroduce Windstar’s popular Japan itineraries.

Details of these itineraries will first be shared with Yacht Club members and travel advisors first, with public bookings set to open early this September.

Multiple People Have Tested Positive For COVID-19 On A Cruise Ship In The Caribbean

It's the first voyage in the region since the pandemic shut down the cruise industry.

Multiple people have tested positive for the coronavirus on a cruise ship near Barbados during the first voyage in the Caribbean since the pandemic shut down the industry.

The captain of SeaDream Yacht Club’s SeaDream 1 announced Thursday that the testing of close contacts of a passenger who originally tested positive on Wednesday revealed a total of five COVID-19 cases in the individual's party, according to travel reporter Gene Sloan , who is also a passenger.

Sloan and representatives for SeaDream did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' requests for comment.

The cruise line company said in a statement earlier on Thursday that the vessel had returned to Barbados "after guests' tests for Covid-19 returned assumptive positive results," although the total number was not given.

The company said all crew members have since tested negative and that it was currently retesting all passengers aboard the vessel. All guests and nonessential crew members are currently in quarantine.

“We are working closely with local health and government authorities to resolve this situation in the best possible way," SeaDream’s Andreas Brynestad said in a statement. "Our main priority is the health and safety of our crew, guests, and the communities we visit.”

Guests were tested twice for the coronavirus before setting out to sea on Saturday, according to Brynestad.

The cruise line resumed sailing over the summer in Norway. In August, a SeaDream voyage on the same ship was paused for one day after a guest tested positive for COVID-19. The cruise line said it determined the result was a false positive after a second test came back negative.

According to Sloan, who has been documenting the Caribbean voyage for the Points Guy, an American travel website and blog, there are 53 guests and 66 crew members on board the SeaDream 1 .

Sloan said that before the positive test results, life on the ship felt relatively normal, adding that passengers were only required to wear masks while moving around the yacht as of Monday.

"Initially, as the cruise began, SeaDream didn’t require passengers to wear masks, and not a single one of the 53 passengers on board chose to do so," he wrote. "The consensus among passengers on board was that the COVID testing regime was so rigorous that mask-wearing was redundant."

When the coronavirus outbreak began spiraling out of control earlier this year, cruise ships emerged as hot spots for the virus due to poor onboard ventilation and what experts said were botched quarantines. An outbreak on the Diamond Princess ship in Japan infected more than 700 people and led to nine deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Seventy-eight people tested positive for COVID-19 in another outbreak on the Grand Princess off the coast of California.

The outbreaks prompted the CDC to issue no-sail orders for the cruise ship industry. On Oct. 30, the agency issued a new framework to allow a phased approach to resume sailing in US waters.

SeaDream's voyages aren't covered by the CDC order because their itineraries do not pass through US waters, according to Sloan.

The positive test results on the SeaDream 1 yacht come as cases of the coronavirus surge in the US and other countries. Earlier this week, the US passed the grim milestone of 10 million coronavirus cases ; on Thursday, California became the second state, after Texas, to record more than 1 million cases.

Mayor claims drone intercepted near Moscow

Russian air defense units allegedly intercepted a drone over the city of Elektrostal in Moscow Oblast, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported in a Telegram post on Nov. 19.

Sobyanin claims the drone was heading towards central Moscow.

The Mayor also said emergency services were at work at the crash site but no casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the reports.

Since the launch of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian military, logistics, and infrastructure sites in the occupied territories and within Russia.

Today's drone report comes just hours after Ukraine's alleged drone attack was intercepted over the Bogorodskoye municipal district in Moscow Oblast.

While claims of Ukrainian attacks within Russian territory have increased since summer 2023, Kyiv rarely comments on these reports.
