Can you rent a yacht in Vrsar – do I need a license?

Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters , gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Trogir, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies on board, so don’t forget to take them. To sail from Trogir, one of the following qualifications is necessary : ICC (International Certificate of Competence), Int. IPC (International Proficiency Certificate, USA), NauticEd SLC (International Sailing License and Credentials), RYA Day Skipper Course, valid Navigational and VHF licenses. Yacht charter in Vrsar

Vrsar is located on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. To the south of the town is the entrance to the Limski Channel, a little further south is Rovinj. On the north side Porec is not far. Besides the lively seaside resorts, the west coast offers dreamy bays, lovely islands and breathtaking sunsets. Destinations of a yacht charter from Vrsar can be Slovenia and Italy in the north and west as well as the Croatian islands in the southeast.

Due to its favorable location, the marina is easily accessible by car from German-speaking countries. It is located about 350 kilometers from Graz and a good 600 kilometers from Munich. From the Villach interchange there is the possibility to drive to Trieste via Italy or Ljubljana. From there, the highway leads in the direction of Pula. From the Medaki exit, vacationers can reach the Vrsar marina. The nearest airports are located in Pula, Portoroz

For renting a motor yacht in Istria, Vrsar is an ideal starting point, because the small town is located quite centrally on the west coast. When approaching the port, navigation must take into account some shoals in addition to the islands.

The village is terraced from the harbor. Worth seeing is the St. Martin's church with its separate bell tower, which stands at the highest point, about 54 meters above the sea. Near the church is the Casanova lookout, which allows a beautiful view of the yachts. Vrsar is the summer residence of the Bishop of Porec and still has a Romanesque town gate.

While yacht chartering in Vrsar, it is worthwhile to walk or bike along the Limski Canal. At the end of the eleven kilometer long canal are the ruins of the medieval Dvigrad. It was abandoned at the beginning of the 17th century after a malaria pandemic. The canal is under a strict protection and cannot be navigated by private boats. There are several beaches, some of which are reserved for nudists. The island of Koversada, accessible by a bridge, hosts a nudist park.

Vrsar is a beautiful place for sailing off Istria. In front of the town stretches an archipelago of 18 islands, which offer beautiful beaches and lush vegetation. The sailing area is not too demanding. In summer the prevailing wind is the Maestral. The fair weather wind blows from the northwest starting in the morning and reaches its peak around 2 pm. It provides ideal conditions for catamaran rental in Istria. The occasional bora blowing from the northwest is treacherous. The sirocco (jugo) can blow strongly from the southeast and brings rain.

The west coast offers many highlights, which are suitable as a stopover for a cruise. To the north, the more than 2,000-year-old town of Porec quickly comes into view, which to this day preserves evidence of its glorious days under the Romans. While sailing around Istria, it is worth visiting the old town, which juts into the sea as a peninsula. The Euphrasius Basilica, built in the sixth century, is worth seeing. In the hinterland near Nova Vas is the karst cave Baredine, which has beautiful stalactites. It is one of the natural beauties worth a trip if you rent a catamaran in Istria. Novigrad is a pretty little coastal town worth heading to when yacht chartering from Vrsar. The town was completely surrounded by a wall in the Middle Ages, parts of which are still standing today. The center is characterized by numerous medieval buildings, which make the former fishing village a popular destination. Worth seeing are the parish church of St. Pelagius and the neighboring bell tower as well as the Rigo Palace from the Venetian period. Beautiful photo motifs can be found at the town loggia Belvedere and the romantic streets decorated with colorful umbrellas.

Far to the north, Umag is another town with a medieval flair waiting to be discovered. A few nautical miles to the north is the Savudrija lighthouse, the oldest still active tower in Croatia. The coast in front of the cape invites for diving during motor yacht rental for Istria. In crystal clear water some sunken ships can be discovered. Those who have no problem with customs formalities can continue to Piran. The harbor is quite small and not particularly well protected, but the climb to the nearby castle is well worth it. Strolling through the alleys of the picturesque old town is also recommended.

Only a few nautical miles north of Rovinj, one of the most popular vacation resorts on the Croatian Adriatic , lies the small village of Vrsar at the entrance to the Limski Channel. In contrast to the more touristy Rovinj , Vrsar has retained the charm of a Mediterranean fishing settlement with its terraced layout up the hillside. Through narrow, winding, but nevertheless light-flooded alleys, you can always catch a glimpse of the bay as you make your way up the slope into the historic upper town. This is how you reach the highest point of the town, where the parish church of Sveti Martin is located. The building from the early 20th century received a new 54m high bell tower in the nineties. You can climb it and, in good weather, look south over Funtana to Poreč and north beyond Rovinj. The seaside resort of Poreč is also an attractive destination for your yacht charter Vrsar. The somewhat more difficult approach to the port there will be rewarded with a visit to the Episcopal Euphrasius Basilica (UNESCO World Heritage Site), relics from Roman times or a large adventure pool. Back in Vrsar, which served as a summer residence for the bishops from Poreč, you can take a long walk along the beach promenade. A wide range of restaurants, cafes and bars invite you to linger for a moment and soak up the atmosphere of the town.

On the coast in front of Vrsar there are 18 uninhabited small islands. Vrsar itself also offers several beaches. The beaches Valkanela and Orsera are particularly family-friendly. The beach Orsera offers for example an aqua park, where you can spend a lot of time climbing, jumping and romping. So even the little ones can enjoy their time on yacht charter Vrsar.

If you prefer a more sportive holiday, you can rent a paddle boat or explore the local underwater world on a dive around the two Salamun Islands.

The Limski Channel , not far from Vrsar, offers an extraordinary natural experience. For private boats this about 11km long sea arm is closed, but there are excursion steamers which sail the channel. Here is also one of the many caves and grottoes of Istria. It was used as early as the Stone Age and is located at the northern end of the river. For several years it also served as the dwelling place of a saint named Romuald. Hiking and biking trails run along the canal, and the steep limestone walls attract accomplished climbers.

Heading south from Vrsar are more usual cruising destinations with the Brijuni Islands, a nature reserve, historic Pula and sheltered Pomer with the Cape Kamenjak Nature Park. Towards the north from Vrsar, however, a no less charming coastline invites to be discovered. Via Poreč, Novigrad and Umag you can also sail to Slovenia . Or for a longer trip you can even plan a crossing to the Italian coast, for example to the lagoon city of Venice.

Marina Vrsar , situated on the west coast of Istria , is a renowned destination for sailors and boat enthusiasts located in the small town Vrsar, just between Rovin j and  Poreč . This picturesque marina offers excellent facilities and services, making it an ideal base for exploring the archipelago of various uninhabited islets located in front of Vrsar. About Vrsar

Vrsar is a popular tourist destination on Istria's west coast , situated between Rovin j and  Poreč . In Vrsar's history, a significant center was established in the 5th century , featuring an old Christian church. During the Romanesque period , Vrsar became a fortified settlement and an important center of feudal properties belonging to the bishops of Poreč.

Vrsar is also home to several historic churches, including St. Foska Church and the three-naval basilica of St. Mary of the Sea , both dating back to the 17th century. The Renaissance-Baroque-style St. Anthony's Church was also built during this period. The stone from Vrsar, known as Pietra Orsera , was used to build Venetian palaces, bridges, and churches in the region.
