Weather Toronto

Weather in Toronto changes daily. Even when rain is forecasted, it only lasts for 20+/- minutes and often doesn’t even reach our playground in the harbour. Check out our weather and other cancellation protection options

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

The one part of sailing out of our control is the weather. Toronto has a very moderate climate and foul with sub-tropical weather during the summer; rain usually is light and is only temporary (20 minutes). Unless there is lightning in the immediate area or the wind or waves are deemed unsafe, we will be sailing (it often makes the trip more exciting).

During more severe conditions, there is always a dry place on your private yacht in the cabin and covered cockpit. In the unlikely event sailing is cancelled you will be offered a rain-check to return another day for a sailing lesson and public sail. Private Yacht Charters have the option to purchase Any Reason or Weather Insurance in advance.

Is there parking in the area?

Like anywhere in the city, parking is at a premium. We have a number of paid lots along the waterfront and have linked to the Waterfront BIA parking map so that you can spend less time finding parking and more time relaxing on your private yacht with us!

The attached link shows all of the public parking lots and parking garages at on the waterfront. When you find a parking lot near to the attraction or business you are visiting, click the “directions” button to open driving directions to the parking lot on google maps. Please also consider public transit, walking or cycling to get to Toronto’s Waterfront!

Is alcohol permitted on the boats?

Alcohol consumption is subject to Ontario Regulations that are strongly enforced by the Toronto Marine Police, OPP & RCMP. Private Yachts that are not licensed by the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) are only permitted to provide BYOB service and consumption is limited to while at the dock or anchored – not while the boat is moving (most of your sail).

Great News – Our sail boats are licensed by AGCO and as such we sell both beer & wine and you are permitted to consume your beverages at all time while on your yacht charter. Our private motor yachts are subject to standard alcohol regulations above. Our sailing yachts operate the same as a bar and no outside food or alcohol is permitted on any yacht.

Do you provide Catering?

We have a special yacht – designed menu prepared fresh from our galley available for private charters and shared sails. We also work with a few outside caterers which require 7 days advance notice. Our menus are available from our website by clicking here.

Please see our Food and Beverage Policy for Private Charters on each individual boat. Our sailing yachts and luxury catamaran have in house catering only while our motor yachts permit self-catering. During Shared Sails, we do not permit outside food brought on board due to the intimacy of the close quarters and potential allergies etc. We do however, provide complimentary bottled water. Snacks and Beverages are available for purchase.

We love celebrations and welcome you to bring cupcakes ONLY. Cakes are difficult to serve on a moving boat. Home baked goods are not permitted. While we don’t charge for this service, you are encouraged to show your extra appreciation to your crew accordingly.

What if I get sea-sick?

The waters on Lake Ontario are generally light with only moderate waves during the summer. Relatively few people suffer from some sort of nausea while sailing Toronto waters.

We recommend two herbal remedies that are non-medicinal, Ginger Gravol and Motion Ease. The Ginger Gravol should be taken in advance and is found at most pharmacies. There is a Shoppers Drug Mart across the road from our dock. You can hop in there before you set out on your sailing adventures with Gone Sailing Adventures. In the unlikely event that you are not feeling well on your yacht charter, our staff will do their best to make you comfortable during your sail.

If you plan on taking any anti-nausea medication – You should do so at least 45 minutes prior to boarding your private yacht. Remember regular gravol or dramamine will cause drowsiness.

Consult your medical advisor prior to taking any medications.

How should I dress for a day or evening sail?

Sailing in Toronto is an outdoor activity!

During your sailing experience you may be exposed to sun, wind and cool breezes. Be prepared and this will make your yacht charter much more enjoyable. We recommend wearing sunscreen and a hat. Additionally, we recommend having layered clothing; a base cool layer, warmer middle layer and waterproof outer layer. The temperature can be much cooler during a breeze and when the sun goes down.

To enhance your Toronto sailing experience, all of our boats are barefoot only.

Please apply sunscreen prior to boarding. Spray-on products may damage the boat finish and are not permitted on our luxury yachts.

YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK

When considering chartering a yacht in Canada, we know you have many options. Some of these options look super exciting and at ridiculously great prices. Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water. In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

• The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either: – Limited Master under 60tonne. – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
• The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
• If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
• If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
• All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
• The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
• hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
• not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
• pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
• suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
• allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
• insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).

Yes! All prices on our website is hourly basis.

It’s clear that the yacht rental will be on an hourly basis, the food will be on a per person basis, and the decor will depend on the package chosen. This breakdown will help in customizing the experience based on individual preferences and requirements.

Guests can bring their own food and beverages for the charter. If you wish to have food prepared and delivered to the yacht, please inform us in advance and we would be happy to coordinate catering. We can even arrange for a chef to come aboard to prepare a meal during the charter.

You’re welcome to bring your own food, and the crew can assist with setup and serving. Refrigeration and a BBQ are available for use.

Shoes are not allowed on the yacht to preserve the quality of the special anti-slip flooring. Shoes will be securely stored during your time aboard.

Vaping is allowed anywhere, while cigarette smoking are restricted to the aft swim platform.

Pets are permitted on some, but not all boats. Please consult with one of our representatives to verify the specific pet policy for each boat through your event coordinator.

The pickup spot is located at the downtown harbor front. We have various docks in the downtown area for different categories of boats. Complete details will be provided once your booking is confirmed.

Depending on the length of the tour, we like to cross the harbor and take a leisurely cruise through the picturesque channels of the Toronto Islands. From there we leave the harbor, head towards Ontario Place and out into Lake Ontario. As we re-enter the harbor, you will enjoy unique views of the city skyline. If the seas are too rough, we will not subject our guest to the swells, and we’ll stay in the sheltered harbor (where there is still plenty to explore). While onboard, please consult with us  for the best options.

A professional captain, a first mate/server will be on board to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the journey and your guests.

Do bring essentials, use provided amenities and follow safety guidelines. Don’t bring red wine, high heels, or sharp objects that could damage the yacht.

Embark on a fishing charter from Toronto, and you’ll find yourself in the midst of Lake Ontario’s rich salmon waters. The lake is home to species like Chinook and Coho, and if you venture to the nearby rivers, you might even come across the elusive Atlantic Salmon.

On Toronto Island, fishing is a go-ahead activity where you’re likely to reel in a variety of fish, including northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch, and carp. It’s a fisherman’s delight, offering a rich bounty of species to catch.

We use one of the most trusted credit card processing partners to handle all credit card information. We are compliant with the strictest PCI requirements for handling payment information, so rest assured that your transaction is safe and secure.

Decorating services are available ranging from $300-$500. You can also decorate yourself; the crew will assist and allow early boarding for setup. Check our our decoration service for yacht.

Parking is available near the pickup location, including municipal street parking and paid parking lots.

Hiring a private chef ranges from $599 to $899 per session. An additional bartender is available for $199. Note that these costs cover only the service; the cost of ingredients will vary depending on the menu and the number of guests.

For those not quite ready to take the plunge into full-time boat living, there’s also the option to rent boats for longer stretches. I wish I had everyone's names who helped us. I last minute booked a Duffy boat for my friends on a Friday for a summer sunset sail. We had so much fun! Everyone was super helpful. I've always gone down to the docks in Newport and this one stood apart from the rest because it actually INCLUDED ice AND cooler, which most places do not offer. Everyone was super helpful in getting us into the boat with our stuff. We were also able to rent a JBL speaker, which was perfect. Honestly, I'd rather come to this location going forward with how friendly, happy, and helpful everyone was. Another massive perk was that the parking wasn't a million miles away. Our group (3 cars) scored parking right on the same street. We got lost on our way back as it was our first time in Huntington Harbor, but we rushed our way back as safely as possible since they had another booking after us. everything was fine and all worked out great. Every part of this experience was seamless and efficient. Big shout out to ZULLY!!! We cannot wait to come back. FYI, there's a membership that they offer here! We rented a Duffy boat with Huntington Harbor Boat rentals and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Becca was especially super nice and helpful. She saw that we were having trouble steering the Duffy boat and she gave us a quick 15 minute lesson on how to steer the boat. We really appreciate her patience, professionalism, and customer service!

Equipment was old and not taken care of. Kayak sunk due to damage, paddles are duct taped to keep pieces together. When we went back to let them know the other kayak sunk and the 2 women were hanging onto a dock, the older women asked what was she supposed to do? I suggested calling the lifeguards but she said she had to call the owner first as she didn't have their number. I then suggested taking one of their Duffy boats out to get them. Her reply was if they can't pull themselves up on a dock they couldn't get in the Duffy boat. No urgency in helping them out as a matter of fact I felt she expected us to take care of it. Again I explained this is her defective kayak and her responsibility to take care of it. I am shocked they had no back up plan for their old equipment that sank! Didn't even offer a refund after all of this!!! Go down the street to a more reputable company.

The employees are great and attentive. The kayaking routes were very nice and the advice from staff was helpful.

We had a blast and enjoyed cruising the harbor. We went on a Sunday evening and enjoyed the sunset. Zully was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to make our boat ride as smooth as possible. Ice and a cooler was provided upon request. The boat was very clean and spacious. Desmin, Alyssa, Cassey helped us throughout the onboarding and made the whole experience really peaceful/relaxing. Would definitely recommend to all our friends and will be planning another boat ride in the future.

My wife and I tried using a Groupon here a few years ago and the woman working there that day wouldn't let us since my wife can't swim. We were going to be in a double kayak and I am a good swimmer, she was going to wear a life jacket so this was frustrating...seems like a waiver could be signed. I ended up using the expired Groupon with a friend this week and we had a great time! The 2 young workers were awesome too!

I had no intention to rent from this place because I had my own paddle board. Unfortunately, I forgot one paddle. I looked up and saw this rental place and thought maybe I could convince them to let me rent just a Paddle. The lady was so kind and allowed me to use one as long as I left my license. The young man that got it for me was very nice. I was so grateful to them. I would absolutely recommend this place. It is a beautiful place to paddle board!

We had a blast, mellow cruise around the harbor, fair prices. The boat was in excellent condition, super clean windows and seats. It had a fridge and a nice table. Staff was friendly, and very helpful. We would definitely book again, and maybe try out the paddle boards or kayaks!

Global Affairs Canada said Monday it’s aware of reports that a Canadian has died after a luxury superyacht sank off Sicily during a violent storm, while Italian authorities said they continued to search for six people who remained unaccounted for.

Global Affairs spokesperson Kevin Sweet declined to confirm any details, citing privacy. He said consular officials were in contact with local authorities.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this tragic event,” the statement said.

British tech magnate Mike Lynch was among the people who remain unaccounted for after their chartered sailboat sank off Porticello, when a tornado over the water known as a waterspout struck the area overnight, said Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency.

His wife, Angela Bacares, and 14 other people survived.

One body had been recovered, and police divers were trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 metres off Porticello, near Palermo, where it had been anchored, rescue authorities said.

The British-flagged “Bayesian,” a 56-metre-long sailboat, was carrying 22 people and was anchored just off shore when it was hit by ferocious weather, the Italian coast guard said in a statement.

Eyewitnesses said the yacht vanished quickly beneath the waves shortly before dawn. Fifteen people escaped before it went down, including Ms. Bacares, who owned the boat, and a one-year-old girl.

Who is Mike Lynch, missing owner of luxury yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily?

The names of the dead and missing were not immediately released, but a person familiar with the rescue operation confirmed that Mr. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, were not accounted for.

Italian media said the dead man was the yacht’s on-board chef.

Mr. Cocina said Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, were also among the missing people.

Morgan Stanley did not immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking comment after hours. Clifford Chance did not return a request for comment.

The Italian coast guard said the missing had British, American and Canadian nationalities. Survivors said the trip had been organized by Mr. Lynch for his work colleagues.

“The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude,” a coast guard official in the Sicilian capital Palermo told Reuters.

The captain of a nearby boat told Reuters that when the winds surged, he had turned on the engine to keep control of his vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian, which had been anchored alongside him.

“We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” Karsten Borner told journalists. The other boat “went flat on the water, and then down,” he added.

He said his crew then found some of the survivors on a life raft – including a baby girl and her mother – and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

One man died and a search is underway for six people who went missing after a luxury yacht was struck by an unexpectedly violent storm and sank off the Sicilian capital Palermo, the Italian coast guard said on Aug. 19.

Mr. Lynch, 59, is one of Britain’s best-known tech entrepreneurs. He built the country’s largest software firm, Autonomy, from his groundbreaking research at Cambridge University, and became known as Britain’s Bill Gates.

He sold the firm to HP for US$11-billion in 2011, before the deal unravelled spectacularly following the acquisition, with the U.S. tech giant accusing him of fraud.

Once lauded by academics, scientists and politicians, Mr. Lynch spent much of the past decade in court defending his name. He was acquitted by a jury in San Francisco in June, after he spent more than a year living effectively under house arrest.

He said at the time that he was “elated” to be cleared in the criminal trial in which he denied any wrongdoing and blamed HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

The coast guard said divers were inspecting the wreck of the Bayesian, which was lying at a depth of 50 metres.

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what had gone wrong.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days after weeks of scorching heat, which had lifted the temperature of the Mediterranean sea to record levels, raising the risk of extreme weather conditions, experts said.

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius, which is almost three degrees more than normal. This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms,” meteorologist Luca Mercalli said.

“We can’t say that this is all due to global warming but we can say that it has an amplifying effect,” he told Reuters.

The Bayesian was built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008 and was last refitted in 2020. Its 75-metre mast is the tallest aluminum mast in the world, Perini said on its website.

The shipspotting.com website said the boat was owned by a firm called Revtom Ltd. Mr. Lynch’s wife Ms. Bacares is named as the sole shareholder of the firm on company documents.

The yacht’s name would resonate with Mr. Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.

The ship won a string of awards for its design and can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of “at anchor,” according to vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.
