Tuscaloosa council set to consider north river condo development, the tuscaloosa city council is set to vote tuesday night on a proposed north river marina condominiums at the north river yacht club..

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa City Council is set to hear a presentation Tuesday night on a proposed condominium development at the North River Yacht Club.

Positioned on Mountbatten Road Northeast on the North River Yacht Club property, the proposed project would feature 34 residential condominiums units, consisting of 22 two-bedroom units, 16 three-bedroom units, and four one-bedroom units.

The City of Tuscaloosa's Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the development earlier this month and recommended it to the full City Council for approval.

The development will also include 106 parking spaces and an outdoor amenity area that will feature a private pool with a view of Lake Tuscaloosa. If approved, condominium owners will be required to maintain a membership at North River Yacht Club.

According to the developer — NRYC Holdings, LLC — the project calls for a parking deck behind the building, which will not be visible from the lake, public streets or adjacent private properties

What's more, NRYC Holdings has expressed plans to city officials to renovate the existing restaurant at the location, while also adding a new 1,500-square-foot marina store building adjacent to the existing marina areas that will offer fuel and "miscellaneous items."

As part of these plans, NRYC Holdings says it hopes to renovate the marina area by removing all existing wood docks to then be replaced with new flotation system aluminum docks. The firm also plans to apply for a commercial pier permit for additional boat slips to include lifts.

The Tuscaloosa City Council's next regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Tuscaloosa City Council OKs 34-Unit Northriver Condo Development

The City of Tuscaloosa approved a developer's plans to bring 34 condominium units, a new restaurant and a marina with a mercantile store to the Northriver Yacht Club at their meeting Tuesday night.

The developer, NRYC Holding, LLC, is seeking to build the condo complex on the banks of Lake Tuscaloosa next to the existing Northriver Marina off Mountbatten Road.

The resolution the council approved Tuesday night approves 34 units including 20 two-bedroom units, 10 three-bedroom units and four single-bedroom units.

The plans also include "an outdoor amenity area, including a private pool with a view of the lake."

Renderings provided to the Thread by the city of Tuscaloosa show the condo building would be faithful to the Yacht Club's existing architecture, which itself is an homage to the Japanese pagoda.

The plans also include structured parking with 106 spaces, according to the resolution approved Tuesday.

The developer also plans to renovate the existing onsite restaurant building and add a new 1,500-square-foot marina store where patrons and condo residents can buy gasoline and miscellaneous items in a shop just off the water.

The developer would also renovate the marina by removing all wooden docks and replacing them with floating aluminum docks.
