About AS Yacht Services
A S Yacht Services offers a full yacht rigging service in Argyll and anywhere in Scotland. We have a workshop in Kilmelford at the head of Loch Melfort, but can often be found at marinas and boatyards from Creran to Cairnbaan. We can provide our services all over Scotland.
The business was created in 2017 by Alex Spence, who began his sailing and rigging career 8 years earlier crewing and skippering on commercial and private yachts, ranging in size from 27ft-180ft. Sailing experience is a mixture of long distance cruising, deliveries and racing, all with very different rigging requirements.

Coast to Coast rigging is based within Port Edgar Marina in South Queensferry on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The company was set up in 2012 by Kevan Gibb. Kevan has spent a large part of his life working in and around the yachting industry. Training firstly at James Watt College, Greenock in the 80’s and then learning his trade as an apprentice boat builder in Eyemouth. This was followed by a diploma course in Boat Yard Management at Southampton College Of Higher Education. Kevan has a vast experience working on a wide range of vessels from international dinghy classes to Admiral’s Cup boats. He was world champion in the Wayfarer class 4 times with Ian Porter of Ian Porter Boat Sales Ltd. He has worked on a wide range of racing yachts. C2C Rigging Ltd offer a wide range of Yacht Rigging Services and general marine services. Since the rigging is absolutely vital to the yacht’s overall performance, it is essential to achieve the right balance between a variety of considerations such as weight, strength, windage, maintenance, durability and, last but by no means least, price. We offer a comprehensive service for all rigging issues such as furling systems, winches, standing & running rigging, lifelines, hoisting assemblies, dock lines, fender lines – you name it, we do it!

I’m Ian, Yachtsman, Climber, Award winning adventure filmmaker & Rigger. I founded AYR in the summer of 2020. I’ve a passion for exploration yachts and blue water cruisers, but I love any yacht that cruisers or racers on the west coast.
One of the highlight of my sailing life was being invited to sail on PSP Logistics Clipper yacht when hosted in Oban. Each photo in this ‘About Us’ page is from that day & I can say with confidence that all our smiles are genuine.
Charlotte is at the helm of the Business and keeps us moving forward, she’s the first point of contact on email and makes sure I’m in the right place at the right time.
She is a climber and adventurer and loves nothing more than getting into the mountains with Jess our dog, or anchoring up in a remote spot and climbing on a beach.
Charlotte has had a 20 year career project managing clinical trials for the NHS & big Pharmaceuticals so will be bringing her experience project managing us here.
Oscar started with us in February 2023 and is already a talented rigger, He brings a lot to AYR.
He is a passionate racing sailor and counters our own passion for expedition yachts perfectly.
He is a natural rigger, and excels in tuning, splicing running rigging and, well pretty much everything on boats.

Coming from a family of yacht designers, sailing is in our blood. With 30 years of experience, we take pride in remaining up to date with the latest evolutions in technology and knowledge. So whether it is refitting a classic yacht, preparing a modern cruising boat for an adventure or providing the latest in hardware for a brand-new racing machine, you can be assured we will find the best solution for your needs.
ACCESSIBILITY
Our Southampton yard is built right at the heart of Solent sailing, only ten minutes from the city centre and an hour’s sail from the Isle of Wight, Hythe and Hamble. Our Chatham base services those in London and up the east coast.
For those a little further away, we operate a fully mobile service; marina, swinging mooring, boatyard or even your back garden – wherever your yacht is in the UK. We have connections with yards across the country for large jobs, or our experienced delivery crews can move your boat to one of our bases.
FACILITIES
Rigit facilities include a 43m crane capable of servicing masts up to 35m, a 75-tonne travel lift for boats up to 6m beam, the UK-only 37m dedicated mast spray booth with ventilation and temperature control and Lloyd’s certified 4-27mm swaging machines. Our yard also includes dedicated marina pens for boats undergoing work, a 37m workshop and mast and boom storage racks.

Rigit's standard rig inspection service is a visual check of everything above deck. After spending time on board we will have everything we need to prepare a written report. Based on a working knowledge and wide experience of mast terminations, rigging components and geometry, our experts can identify any problems and give recommendations for improvement or replacement.
